We will have two special parish council meetings that are
open to ALL to discuss planning, scheduling & new ideas
for parish activities, enrichment & fund raising. To help
facilitate the conversation for everyone, the meeting on
May 28 will be in English and the one of May 30 will be
in Spanish, both begin at 7pm. Come and join us as we
plan for the future!!!

Catholic Vacation Bible School
Escuela de Verano
Cristo Rey invita a todos los niños al Kingdom Rock:
Donde los niños se colocan fuertes para Dios.
Un evento de verano para niños llamado Kingdom Rock, desde el
lunes 12 de Agosto al viernes 16. En Reino Rock, niños participan
en las actividades de aprendizaje bíblico memorables, cantar
canciones pegajosas, jugar juegos de equipo de construcción,
realizar y profundizar en deliciosos aperitivos, experiencia de
aventuras Bíblicas y manualidades divertidas. Además, los niños
aprenderán a buscar la evidencia de Dios a su alrededor a través de
algo que se llama God Sightings. Cada día concluye con la
celebración de la Eucaristía que involucra a todos a vivir lo
aprendido. Se anima a los miembros de la familia y amigos a unirse
a este tiempo especial a las 12 del mediodía. La escuelita es para los
niños es de 1ro a 6to grado, y comenzara a la 9:00am. – 1:00 pm
todos los días. Para inscribirse solo tiene que rellenar el formulario
que se encuentra en el vestíbulo.
Christ The King invites Children to Kingdom Rock:
Where Kids Stand Strong For God.
A summer Kids’ event called Kingdom Rock, from Monday August
12 to Friday August 16. At Kingdom Rock, kids participate in
memorable Bible-learning activities, sing catchy songs, play
teamwork-building games, make and dig into yummy treats,
experience epic Bible adventures, and fun crafts. Plus, kids will
learn to look for evidence of God all around them through
something called God Sightings. Each day concludes with the
celebration of the Eucharist that gets everyone involved in living
what they’ve learned. Family members and friends are encouraged
to join in daily for this special time at 12 noon. Kingdom Rock is for
kids from 1st to 6th grade and will run from 9:00am to 1:00pm each
day. To register simply fill out the form located in the vestibule

Esperando el Espíritu
Waiting for the Spirit
En el Evangelio de Lucas hoy, Jesús recuerda su misión (y la
de los apóstoles). Les ordena regresar a la ciudad y esperar la
promesa del Padre. Los bendice y es “llevado al cielo”. Este
“ser llevado” sugiere ser elevado como un sacrificio aceptable
que asciende al trono de Dios. Los apóstoles, nutridos por
Escrituras que hablan de sacrificios aceptables, lo
comprenden. Ellos van a Jerusalén a esperar y a orar.
In today’s Gospel from Luke, Jesus recalls his (and the apostles’)
mission. He directs them to return to the city and wait for the
promise of the Father. He blesses them and is “taken up” into
heaven. This “taking up” suggests being carried up like an
acceptable sacrifice ascending to the throne of God. The
apostles, nourished on scriptures that spoke of acceptable
sacrifices, understand this. They go to Jerusalem to wait and
pray.
La primera lectura reitera y desarrolla más esta experiencia.
Aquí, también, Jesús ordena a sus apóstoles regresar a
Jerusalén y esperar. Pero les revela algo nuevo: deben esperar
el poderoso bautismo del Espíritu Santo.
The first reading reiterates and further develops this experience.
Here too, Jesus directs his apostles to return to Jerusalem and
wait. But something new is disclosed: they are to await the
powerful baptism of the Holy Spirit.
Sabemos que dentro de pocos días el poderoso Espíritu vendrá
a los apóstoles. Podemos agradecerles que se quedaron y
esperaron, a pesar de sus temores. De su ejemplo aprendamos
lo que significa esperar y aceptar la venida del Espíritu Santo.
We know that in a few short days the powerful Spirit will come
to the apostles. We can be grateful that they stayed and waited,
whatever their trepidation. From their example, we learn what it
takes to wait and be open to the coming of the Holy Spirit.
God mounts his throne amid shouts of joy;
The Lord, amid trumpet blasts.
(Psalm 47:6)

Traditions from Our Faith
Hoy celebramos a una mujer potente e importante en nuestras
vidas; la madre. La historia del día de la madre se originó en
las fiestas Griegas en honor de Rhea, la madre de los dioses.
A lo largo de la historia los cristianos también hemos
recordado a la Madre de Dios, María, en varias solemnidades,
pero hace sólo 100 años que en el 10 de mayo de 1907 en los
Estados Unidos se empezó a promover la idea de un día de
reconocimiento del amor que tenemos como humanos por
nuestras propias madres. Eventualmente se paso a muchas
naciones latinoamericanas.
The mystery of the Ascension has to do with holding in tension a
sense of God’s nearness, along with the burden caused by
apparent signs of absence. The risen Jesus says to Mary
Magdalene, “Do not cling to me,” perhaps pointing out to her that
his physical presence to the disciples was time-bound and
temporary. It was a gift for their transformation, and after forty
days, he vanished from their sight and hearing, though never out
of their consciousness.
Muchas culturas latinoamericanas son matriarcales, es decir, el
papel de la madre en la familia es algo esencial. Para los
latinos, no hay amor más grande que el de una madre. Sin
olvidar la función del padre, ella es la que nos da la vida, nos
enseña como vivirla y nos da alimento. Su amor nos recuerda
al de Cristo, quien con sacrificio y amor da vida a la Iglesia. Su
amor sostiene y cuando las cosas se ponen difíciles
emocionalmente, nuestro deseo secreto es de estar en los
brazos de mamá.
They do not mourn at his going this time: there is no trace of the
disciples who hid in fear at his crucifixion, no sense of the women
who wept softly as they carried ointments to the tomb through the
dewy morning light. Instead, the scriptural accounts show them full
of joy, comforted by his promise to be with them forever, and open
to the Spirit’s power. They are joyful, energized, aware, and united
with one another in love. They seem to grasp an awareness that if
the mission to the whole world was a serious one, then the presence
of the Risen Christ could not be pinned down to any one place or
time, but had to be always and everywhere completely available.
All peoples, all times, all cultures were opened to receive him in
this moment of the Ascension. The energy of this feast is drawn not
from absence, but renewed and deeper presence.
