Pastor’s Letter for September 11, 2016
Dear Parishioners,
I want to share an article I recently read about grandparents. You often hear
today that money doesn’t go as far as it used to. This may be true, but let me share
a grandmother’s story. On a sunny Saturday morning in early spring, a
grandmother takes her two-year-old grandson for a walk across the park to the
neighborhood coffee house where they purchase the usual medium decaf coffee
and one blueberry muffin costing three dollars. Coffee is for Grammy and the
blueberry muffin is for the grandson who quickly picks out all the visible blueberries
and stuffs down a big bite of the muffin. Now that’s a pretty good value for the three
dollars, yet if we backtrack to the beginning of our journey, those three dollars add
up to so much more.
Consider the chubby cheeks of the two-year-old waking early in the morning and running to Grammy
with a smile on his face. In his impish way, he says, “Coffee house, coffee house Grammy." Grammy
knowingly says "Yes, we can go to the coffee house. Get dressed." As they get the red wagon out and
everyone is set, off they go down the street and into the park. At this time of the year the park is exploding
with color. The magnolia trees of pink and white are in full bloom, the yellow forsythias are spilling over with
abundant flowers, and the jonquils and daffodils of various colors are spread throughout the lush green
areas to brighten the day. Neighbors and strangers are walking, running or biking on the paths. Dogs, birds,
and squirrels are everywhere. The park is full of life and the short 15 minutes it takes to walk across to the
coffee house has instilled memories that will last a life time.
In today's society, where the value of the dollar has decreased, there are some things that have not
been affected. Regardless of the buying power of the dollar, grandparents, parents and families can often
get the most for their dollar by giving time. How precious time is, and to think that the only time that can be
given is the present--not the past which is gone, nor the future which is to come. Give your time wisely and
enjoy the little things. And yes, that three dollars can purchase a lot. Try it sometime...
Happy Grandparents Day!
God Bless Us All,
Fr. Tizio

A Prayer for the Anniversary of 9/11
O God, our hope and refuge, in our distress we come quickly to you.
Shock and horror of that tragic day have subsided, replaced now with
emptiness, a longing for an innocence lost. We come remembering those
who lost their lives in New York, Washington D.C., and Pennsylvania.
We are mindful of the sacrifice of public servants who demonstrated the
greatest love of all by laying down their lives for friends. We commit their
souls to your eternal care and celebrate their gifts to a fallen humanity.
We come remembering and we come in hope, not in ourselves, but in you.
As foundations we once thought secure have been shaken, we are reminded of the illusion of security. In commemorating this tragedy, we give you
thanks for your presence in our time of need and we seek to worship you
in Spirit and in truth, our guide and our guardian. Amen.

Walking with a Purpose
Walking with Purpose (WWP) is a weekly
women’s bible study that through personal
study and small group discussions helps to
link our everyday challenges and struggles
to the solutions given to us through the
teachings of Christ and the Church. Do you
crave meaningful connection with other
women at St. Mary’s? Would you like to know more about
how scripture relates to your everyday life? If so, we invite
you to consider joining Walking With Purpose at St.
Mary’s Parish. Join us Thursday evenings starting on
Thursday, October 6 at Seelos Hall at St. John Neumann
Church from 7:00-8:45 pm. Register today at

Ranger Rosary
The rosary conquers sin and brings
peace. It is a spiritual sword for our
spiritual battle with evil. Padre Pio calls it
"the weapon." St. John Paul II reshaped
the blade of this ancient sword for our
times by adding the Luminous
Mysteries. Recognizing the attacks
marriages faces today, he added the
Wedding Feast of Cana; to confirm the
real presence of Christ in the Eucharist, he added the
mystery of the institution of the Eucharist; to fortify the
True Divinity, he included the Transfiguration. Our
volunteers meet weekly on Wednesdays from 9 am-12
pm at SJN. Our rosaries will be blessed at the Mass. Stay
for the Novena and rosary if you can. Contact 410-9904714, [email protected] or
www.rangerrosary.org.

Education Pillar
Parish Library Book Review
In his book "The Heart of Christianity," Marcus J. Borg
offers what he hopes is an emerging approach to
Christianity that breaks all ties with fundamentalism.
He describes a compassionate, intellectual form of
Christianity that he believes can emerge from a
modern reinterpretation of sacred texts. His "emerging
paradigm" emphasizes, among other things,
transformation in this life through relationship with God
and minimizes an afterlife and what to believe or do to
be saved. Available in the Christian Life section of the
SJN Parish Library.
Faith Formation
Our Faith Formation Program will begin on Sunday,
September 25, from 9:00 am to 10:10 am. If your family
has not registered yet, register online or pick up a form at
the St. Mary’s Rectory Office. It is important that you get
your registrations in ASAP for planning purposes for

An Invitation to Explore the
Catholic Faith
Are you interested in learning about the
teachings of the Catholic Church because
someone close to you is Catholic? Are you
ready to begin the process of joining the
Catholic faith? Are you a Catholic adult who
has not received all of the Sacraments and would like to be
received into full communion with the Church? Are you a
Catholic adult who has been away from the church and
wants to re-learn the faith?
The R.C.I.A. (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) is a unique
process that includes an inquiry phase where you learn
about the Catholic faith, followed by initiation phases that
help guide you in your personal journey of faith. Classes are
led by Deacon Leroy Moore and are held on Wednesday
evenings, beginning September 14, from 7-9 p.m. in Seelos
Hall, St. John Neumann Church.
Please call 410-990-4012 for more information about
beginning the R.C.I.A. journey. We welcome your inquiries
and appreciate you sharing this invitation with others!

Father said, “The annual World Day
of Prayer for the Care of Creation
will offer individual believers and
communities a fitting opportunity to
reaffirm their personal vocation to be stewards of
creation, to thank God for the wonderful handiwork which
he has entrusted to our care, and to implore his help for
the protection of creation as well as his pardon for the sins
committed against the world in which we live.”

Carta del Párroco
Estimados Parroquianos,
