“PUSHED” OUT ON MISSION
There is a delightful character in the original Dr.
Dolittle Tales called the “Pushmi-Pullyu.” It is a
beast with two identical halves, with a head at
each end. No matter which direction the beast
walks, one end is the “push me” and the other is the
“pull you.” Today’s feast is a bit like that in the life of
the Church. In the book of the Acts of the Apostles, it is
the ascension of Christ that calls for the Holy Spirit,
which consequently sends or “pushes” the church out
on its mission. This is the message that we hear from
the angels today as they tell the friends of Jesus not to
look up into the clouds, but to get busy. It is the message of Jesus himself in Matthew’s Gospel, as he sends
them out to baptize. He also tells them, “I am with you
always, until the end of the age” (Matthew 28:20). And
it is this message, confident in faith that Jesus has ascended to shouts of joy, that “pulls” us along to our final
destiny. The life of the faithful disciple, sent into the

EMPUJADOS” A LA MISIÓN
Hay un personaje encantado en Las historias
del Dr. Dolittle llamado “ PushmiPullyu” [equivalente a Mempujas-Tehalo]. Es
una bestia con dos mitades idénticas, con una
cabeza en cada extremo. Sea cual fuera la dirección en
que camina la bestia, un extreme “empuja” y el otro
“hala”. La fiesta de hoy refleja algo parecido en la vida
de la Iglesia. En el libro de los Hechos de los Apóstoles,
es la Ascensión de Cristo la que llama al Espíritu Santo,
quien a su vez envía o “empuja” a la Iglesia a realizar su
misión. Tal es el mensaje que hoy oímos decir a los
ángeles cuando dicen a los amigos de Jesús que no se
queden mirando hacia las nubes, sino que se pongan en
acción. Es el mensaje del mismo Jesús en el Evangelio
según Mateo, cuando los envía a bautizar: “yo estaré
con ustedes todos los días, hasta el fin del
mundo” (Mateo 28:20). Y es este mensaje, con fe llena
de confianza en Jesús que ha ascendido con gritos de
gozo, el que “nos empuja” hacia nuestro destino final. La
vida del discípulo fiel, enviado al mundo con su misión,
es la que un día conocerá la misma gloria resucitada y

In collaboration with several agencies, including the
St. Elizabeth of Hungary Clinic of our diocese, we are
forming a parish Health & Wellness Committee to
promote parishioners making healthy choices. Leti
Martinez will be coordinating this effort, which will
begin with an introductory evening on Monday, June
13th at 7:00 PM. All parishioners who work in a health
and/or wellness profession (doctors, nurses, physical
therapists, exercise coaches, nutritionists, etc.) as well
as parishioners interested in promoting health and
wellness are invited. Attendance at the meeting is not
a commitment to serve on a committee, but an opportunity to contribute and to explore ideas that could be
undertaken.

Colaborando con algunas agencias que incluyen a la
Clínica de nuestra diócesis St. Elizabeth of Hungary,
estamos formando un comité de Salud y Bienestar
para promover que nuestros parroquianos tomen
decisiones sanas. Leti Martinez será la coordinadora,
y dará principio con una noche de introducción el
lunes 13 de junio a las 7:00 PM. Se invita a todos los
parroquianos que trabajen en profesiones de salud y/
o bienestar (doctores, enfermeras, fisioterapeutas,
entrenadores de ejercicios, nutriólogos, etc.), así como parroquianos que se interesen en promover la
salud y el bienestar. El asistir a la reunión no los
compromete a servir en un comité, pero es una oportunidad de contribuir y explorar ideas que se pudieran
llevar a cabo.

Steubenville West is coming to the UofA Campus
July 22-24.. This is a great retreat weekend for
High Students. This event is open to groups only. Worship,
Share, and meet other Catholic young people. Listen to national speakers have a fun filled weekend at this event. If
you are interested in attending, there is a deposit of $35 and
$140 will be due by July 1st. Please contact Lisa at [email protected] so we can send in our group registration.
HS Youth Group will be meeting during the summer on the
3rd Wednesday of each month. Look to the bulletin for announcements of other summer time activities. Next meeting
is Wednesday, June 15th.

Fathers’ Day Novena
In celebration of Fathers’ Day, we will have a
Novena of Masses. The series of 9 Masses will begin
with the Anticipated Mass of Sunday at 5:00 PM on
Saturday June 18th and include every Mass on
Sunday, June 19th (Fathers’ Day) through the Daily
Mass of Thursday, June 23rd.
You can enroll your father, father-in-law,
grandfather (living or deceased) in the Novena simply
by writing his/their name(s) on the Novena Envelope
(included in the donation envelope packet as well as
available on the table in the vestibule next weekend)
and submitting the envelope with your contribution to
the parish in the regular collections over the next
three weekends. Final turn in time is the 8:00 AM
Mass on Saturday, June 18th.

tendremos una Novena de Misas. La novena
comenzará con la misa del Sábado 18 de junio a las

semana hasta el Jueves 23 de junio.

Vehicles Needed
Se Necesitan Vehículos
The Diocese of Tucson needs your help.
They are in need of gently used vehicles
(well-maintained, 60,000 miles or less) for
use by Priests from developing countries
who will be serving in our diocese. Your
donation of a vehicle to the "International
Priests Vehicle Assistance Program” helps
the priests carry out their ministry and
ease their burden of acclimation to our
country as well as helping them carry out the mission and
traditions of the Church. Many of these priests will be assigned to rural areas where they can easily drive 15,00020,000 miles annually. The Diocese will tune-up the vehicle,
perform minor repair, and replace tires as needed. If you
would like to donate a vehicle, please contact John Shaheen,
Property Director for the diocese at 520-838-2570.
