GOD CALLS US BEYOND
OUR COMFORT ZONE
Jeremiah was familiar with the
constant energy it took to hold the
nation together under the leadership of
kings and princes, priests and people.
But in contemplation Jeremiah feels
called to be a prophet to other nations.
Daily prayer in youth creates an
inspired tension within one‟s own
culture and begins a new interest in
other languages and lands. Tradition,
warns God, can lead to you being
crushed but as you stand up to local
pride, prejudice will not prevail “for I
AM with you to deliver you” says the
Lord.
CELEBRATION
OF THE
PRESENTATION
OF THE LORD
Sunday,
January 31st
after the 11 a.m.
Bilingual Mass
in the school cafeteria
for a luncheon,
ALL ARE WELCOME!!!
With the nudging of the Holy Spirit,
Jesus begins his ministry by
proclaiming the scroll from Isaiah to
liberate the captives as a here and now
mandate of Sacred Scripture, in order
to fulfill God‟s will formed in our
destiny, even before birth. All hell
broke loose in the congregation which
furiously raged against Jesus.
REPENT AND BELIEVE
St. Peter loved his mother‟s culture
of Judaism, but St. Paul grew up in a
port, rubbing elbows with mariners
from many ships and nations. Paul
grows into his missionary destiny after
confessing his “jealousy, inflated
pompousness, his brooding rudeness
and
self-interest
and
quicktemperedness.” He is confronted by
the Risen Christ. Knocked off of his
high horse, Paul discovers love
through Christ‟s patience and
unfailing kindness.
CONSTRUYENDO UNA
VERDADERA COMUNIDAD
Cuando miramos a los relatos de
llamadas de Dios, nos sorprende ver
que, la mayoría de las veces, Dios
elige a personas aparentemente
insignificantes
y
con
pocas
calificaciones para la misión que les
encarga.
Depende
de
la
obediencia,
disponibilidad y amor con que se le
responda
a
Dios;
y,
fundamentalmente, de la promesa de
Dios, de estar siempre con el
enviado, el elegido.
Nos convendría entonces recordar
la promesa: No temas. Yo estaré
contigo.
esa promesa.

National Catholic Schools Week
“Catholic Schools: Communities of
Faith, Knowledge, and Service” is the
theme of National Catholic Schools
Week 2016, the annual celebration
that begins this Sunday, January 31, to
focus attention on the good work of
the nation‟s Catholic schools. Our
Catholic elementary and high schools
integrate faith and values into every
aspect of students‟ educational
experiences, to ensure they are
educated wholly, in mind, body, and
spirit. Catholic school students are
encouraged to think and act according
to the mind and heart of Jesus Christ.
Your gifts to the Catholic Services
Appeal allow the archdiocesan Office
for Catholic Schools to help our
Catholic schools provide their
students with exceptional academic
training while continuing the teaching
mission of Jesus Christ. The office,
which is part of the Department of
Evangelization,
Catechesis

From the Mind and Heart
of Deacon Chris…
Our second reading this Sunday is from St
Paul‟s First Letter to the Corinthians.
Sometimes this is called the „Wedding
Epistle‟. This is one of the most common
readings used at weddings, and is one of St
Paul‟s most poetic passages.
The Church of Corinth
was new; it was just starting out. In order to jump start
the Church it appears the Spirit blessed its members with
different spiritual gifts -- prophecy and faith. People
being people though, the Corinthians started arguing on
which one of these gifts were the greatest. St Paul uses
an interesting technique in diffusing this argument. St.
Paul doesn‟t get into the mix, instead he comes out of left
field with the response, ‘if I speak in human and angelic
tongues but do not have love, I am a resounding gong or
a clashing symbol’.
What does it mean when St Paul says, ‘love is patient,
and love is kind‟? Many times in family relationships we
have to endure different situations. Marital problems can
be tough.
Those of you who have raised children,
teenagers and even adult children realize it‟s not always a
bed of roses.
Sometimes I‟ve felt walking with our
children though those different stages of life that I‟ve bit
my tongue so many times I only have about half of it left.
That‟s what it means when St Paul says, „love is patient’.
‘Love is kind.’ What do we mean by kindness? Are we
just thinking of a grandmother kissing the ouch on a small
child‟s arm?
Kindness is how we choose to relate to
people. We can choose to overpower, to manipulate, and
to insist on our own way; or, we can choose to serve, to
be carrying and gentle.
Years ago this phase was
popular, “Practice random kindness and senseless acts of
beauty." Getting beyond ourselves, and not thinking just
of myself, but the other person.
Love is not a feeling. It is not something we fall into and
it is not something we fall out of. Love is a decision to
act a certain way whether that be to our marriage partner,
our family, friends or neighbor. Love is a commitment,
not just to another person, but to ourselves. Love is hard
work and requires hard work.
Have a Blessed Week…
HEALING MASS
STE. ANNE’S CHURCH
TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 2ND
11:30 A.M. anointing of the sick and a
lunch afterwards.
A veces me he sentido
Podemos elegir a,
nosotros mismos. Amor es un trabajo duro y requiere
trabajo duro.
Teneis una bendita semana…

DISCOVERING OUR
MISSIONARY DESTINY
Synod 2016 will focus with hope
on our very Catholic identity.
This was the vision of Fr.
William Cunningham and
Eleanor Jositis who contemplated their response to
the 1967 Detroit insurrection riots. What is family in
the Church of the Archdiocese?
Eight mile is a recognized “outer drive” as has been
the dividing line between Detroit’s Alter Road and
Grosse Point Park. St. Ambrose Parish embraces
today’s prophesy to stand up with all nations and
cultures with the Good News. The racial barrier is
crossed every Christmas by parishioners from St.
Paul’s Grosse Pointe and Children in Southwest
Detroit who celebrate Christ with presents of warm
homemade blankets.
There is a spiritual “mutuality” among urban and
suburban priests and people which is rooted in the
prophetic scriptural readings such as we hear today.
We need a financial equality among parishes to
make sense of a Synod on the Family. If we look at
the financial commitment religious orders make
when they deploy their personnel we can overcome
parochial “sink or swim” attitudes which afflict so
many modern families.
The transformation of urban financial projections
into thriving mission-driven sanctuaries is the
expressed “fortified city” reaching into Jeremiah’s
writing today, where God’s destiny for us heard loud
and clear.
