I’m sure that it has appeared in the bulletin a few times. This
was printed on June 14, 2008.
Dear Friends,
Mrs. Dorothy Kelch, a parishioner from Heatherwood
Retirement Center sent the following poem she wrote years
ago about her father. I have been saving it just for today,
Father's Day. I can identify with her words, especially the
last verse.
My Dad's Footsteps
When I was growing up
I followed my Dad, six steps to his one.
For he was very tall and I was very small
30 years old
35 years old
40 years old
50 years old
Him? My Lord, he's hope
lessly out of date.
Dad knows a little bit about it, but
then he should because he has been
around.
Maybe we should ask Dad what he
thinks. After all, he’s had a lot of
experience.
I’m not doing a single thing until I
talk to Dad.
I wonder how Dad would have
handled it. He was so wise and had a
world of experience.
I’d give anything if Dad were here
now so I could talk this over with
him. Too bad I didn’t appreciate how
smart he was. I could have learned a
lot from him.
God bless all of the Father’s in our Parish. Enjoy your

When I fell, he picked me up

But he was still tall and I was small.
In later years, the steps grew less until there were no steps at
all
But to me my Dad will always be tall
And I will always be small.
Sometimes, we don't recognize the gifts of the “other" until
we ourselves mature. Mark Twain (Samuel
Clemens) once said: “How did my father become so
smart?" Shortly after returning to the Parish after my Father's
death, a parishioner gave me a leather journal to pen my
thoughts about Dad. Almost 2 years later, I still find myself
jotting down my thoughts. Often, as in the past couple of
weeks, I would have loved to have had Dad's wisdom and
counsel in making some decisions. Retuning to Mark Twain's
words, I'm sure many can identify:
My Father

My daddy knows a whole lot.
My dad is smarter than your dad.
My dad doesn't know exactly everything.
In the olden days, when my dad grew up,
things were sure different.
Oh, well, naturally, dad doesn’t know
anything about that. He is too old to re
member his childhood
Don't pay any attention to my Dad. He is
so old-fashioned!
A FATHER’S DAY NOVENA OF MASSES
will be said during the month
of June for all Fathers, living
and deceased. Spiritual bouquet cards are available in the
Church entrance and the Parish Office. Their names will be placed on the altar
during the month of June. The Novena of Masses
will begin on Father’s Day, June 15th. The remainder of the Masses will be on June 18th, 20th,
23rd, 24th, 26th, 27th and June 30th at 7:30am.
Please return all intentions by Friday, June 14th.
In prayer, please remember the
sick and deceased of our parish.

The Most Holy Trinity
Most of the Feast days that we celebrate as Catholics are pretty self-explanatory. We almost always are able to
conjure up images that relate to the day being celebrated. However, this particular feast day is a bit different
and so perhaps its story needs to be told. Trinity Sunday came into being during the ninth century as a result
of Christological and Trinitarian controversies in the early centuries of the Church. It explicitly acknowledges
the threefold revelation of God as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. It was celebrated on the first Sunday after
Pentecost in some monasteries around the year 1000. And it is written that St. Thomas a Becket (1118-1170) first celebrated the feast outside a monastery, in the Church of Canterbury, of which he was Archbishop. Under Pope John XXII, it
became an official solemn Feast Day in the year 1334. This “idea feast” commemorates an aspect of doctrine, rather than
an event in salvation history. (This explains why our imaginations have a bit of difficulty with it.) The readings and
prayers focus on the mystery of redemption by God through Christ in the power of the Holy Spirit.

"The Bishop has approved moving forward to the construction phase of our
expansion effort. The Diocese, on our
behalf is conducting the bidding process
and will provide a recommendation for
contract award. The Diocese will also
provide a building loan, in addition to our
pledges/contributions, to fully fund the effort. If all goes as
planned, construction should start by mid-July. We will be
putting out information more frequently in the coming weeks
to ensure all of us are aware of the impacts that the construction will have on Nativity activities."

Freedom to Serve will take place from June 21 to July 4, 2014, a time when our liturgical calendar celebrates a series of
great martyrs who remained faithful in the face of persecution by political power — St. Thomas More, the Patron of the
Diocese of Arlington, St. John Fisher, St. John the Baptist, SS. Peter and Paul, and the First Martyrs of the Church of Rome.
The theme of this year's Fortnight focuses on the freedom to serve the poor and vulnerable in accord with human dignity and
the Church's teaching. Resources for parishes to host talks, events, holy hours, and more are available at

Attention all young adults! The New Life Young Adult Ministry is

Seguramente todas conocéis esa leyenda en donde se nos dice que S. Agustín paseaba por la playa mientras intentaba comprender
el misterio de la Santísima Trinidad cuando se encontró con un niño que quería meter todo el agua del mar en un agujero que
había hecho en la arena. Agustín le dijo que eso era imposible y el niño le respondió que más difícil aún era comprender el misterio de la Santísima Trinidad.
Pues bien, creo que esta historia es bastante ilustrativa porque nos hace ver que comprender el misterio de la Trinidad y hablar de
ella no es nada fácil. Y es que supone hablar del mayor misterio de nuestra fe. Sin embargo, a pesar de esta dificultad, sí que se
puede decir algo, no sólo desde la teoría, sino también desde la práctica, porque la Trinidad se presenta, aunque parezca
paradójico, como un misterio y a la vez como un modelo de vida para todos nosotros. Por eso, a mi me gustaría que reflexionásemos un poco sobre esto último.
Lo primero que llama la atención en la Trinidad es la gran unidad que hay en ella. Esta misma unidad es la que Dios nos pide que
vivamos entre nosotros. Al menos, es lo que pidió Jesús al Padre poco antes de ser entregado a los judíos: *Como tu, Padre, en mí
y yo en ti, que ellos también sean uno en nosotros, para que el mundo crea que tú me has enviado+
Por eso, a ejemplo de la Trinidad, toda la Iglesia debería vivir unida con el único fin de dar gloria a Dios y buscar la salvación de
los hombres. Y, tanto en vuestro caso como en el nuestro, que vivimos en una comunidad, debemos dar un ejemplo especial de
unión, de forma que demos testimonio de que, a pesar de las diferencias que puedan existir entre nosotros en la forma de ser o de
pensar, nos queremos y nos sentimos unidos de verdad desde la fe en Dios y en vuestro caso, también desde el carisma que tenéis
de atender a las personas que se encuentran más necesitadas.
Por otro lado, la Trinidad no sólo se nos muestra como modelo de comunión, sino también como modelo de sociedad. El Padre, el
Hijo y el Espíritu Santo trabajan siempre, por así decirlo, en equipo. Cada uno tiene un papel. El Padre, como se dice en el credo,
es creador de todo. En cuanto al Hijo, por él fueron creadas todas las cosas y se hizo hombre para revelarnos el verdadero rostro
de Dios y su plan de salvación. Por último el Espíritu Santo interviene en la encarnación y nos enseña y mantiene en la verdad
plena. Pero, todo ello, como os he dicho, lo hacen en equipo, lo hacen en unidad absoluta y total.
Y así debe ocurrir en la Iglesia y en cada una de nuestras comunidades. Al igual que cada persona de la Trinidad, aunque desempeña funciones distintas en toda la historia de la salvación, pero trabajan en unidad, también nosotros en nuestra comunidad, dentro de la riqueza, de los dones, y de nuestras posibilidades, debemos saber trabajar en equipo, apoyándonos en nuestra tareas concretas y sobre todo ayudándonos entre todos a vivir el carisma al que Dios nos ha llamado.
Pidamos, por tanto, que en este día en que celebramos la Santísima Trinidad, el Señor nos ayude a vivir estos dos aspectos: la unidad y el trabajar en comunión, así como también lo que nos decía S. Pablo en la segunda lectura: trabajar por nuestra perfección,
teniendo un mismo sentir y viviendo en paz.
Es la mejor forma de vivir el misterio de la Trinidad en nuestras vidas, y sólo así como dice también S. Pablo, el Dios del amor y
de la paz estará con nosotros.

Evangelio de la Misa: Jn 3,16-18 - Un Padre y un Amigo
Hoy la Liturgia cristiana celebra y contempla el misterio de Dio s Uno y
Trino. De ese Dios tal como nos lo reveló Jesucristo, que aparentemente es un
misterio tan profundo como incomprensible de descifrar, pero que en la vida
práctica es tan conmovedor como asequible para quien, con humildad y ansias
de amor, se acerca a esta verdad de nuestra fe cristiana.
La Santísima Trinidad más que un misterio incomprensible es un libro
abierto lleno de tesoros espirituales a descubrir y a gozar.
Oración para cada día de la semana
Señor, Jesús, que te has mostrado como el Hijo de Dios Padre, que nos envías el Espíritu Santo, para que, en
unidad de naturaleza divina, y en la Trinidad de personas podamos entenderos y sobre todo trataros mejor.
Sé que no puedo comprenderlo del todo, pero dame la humildad suficiente para reconocer mis limitaciones
y mi pequeñez humana. Solo desde la humildad se puede llegar a la verdad.
Esa verdad, que salva y libera, que consuela y compromete.

Por supuesto, Señor, necesito ser humilde, pero también
instruido, para descubrir la verdad de tu misterio en mi vida
de caridad y entrega, de santidad y solidaridad.
Señor, te veo como un Padre bueno y misericordioso, que
nos ha creado y nos gobierna, que nos mima y nos perdona
con amor paternal.
Considerándome hijo tuyo, me siento especialmente confiado, y más obligado a corresponder como un
buen hijo en mi trabajo de cada día. Que jamás pierda este
sentimiento de hijo en mis oraciones y sacrificios, en mis
alegrías y mis penas.
Al encarnarte en las entrañas de María te hiciste
uno de nosotros, y desde entonces te podemos llamar y
tratar también como hermano y como amigo. Así lo quisiste
desde que nos dijiste que eras el Hijo de Dios, hecho hombre. Pues con esta confianza que me ofreces te pido, Señor,
que nunca me dejes solo en el camino de la vida.
También nos ofreces tu Espíritu Santo, que nos ilumina, nos
fortalece, nos perdona, nos transforma y compromete a una
mayor santidad.
Dame, Señor fidelidad a tu Espíritu, para que mi
santidad sea auténtica y más apostólica, y también alegre y
atractiva.

Podemos disimular, podemos recubrir las cicatrices, podemos usar los mejores ungüentos, las mejores pinturas, podemos poner aspecto juvenil con ropa nueva, con un
nuevo peinado, con unos buenos lentes, podemos sonreír a
diestra y siniestra, pero a la hora de la verdad, al enfrentarnos al espejo, todo eso pasa y nos encontramos la figura y la
imagen de nosotros mismos ante quien no podemos definitivamente fingir ni disimular. Y el espejo es implacable con
el paso del tiempo. Algún día llega en que nos volvemos
irreconocibles a nosotros mismos, pues hicieron presencia
las arrugas y las canas, y llegamos a preguntarnos: ¿Este
soy yo? ¿Tanto tiempo ha pasado? ¿Verdaderamente éste
soy yo?
Pero además de reflejarnos a nosotros mismos el
espejo nos revela la semejanza y el parecido con nuestros
progenitores. Somos figura de nuestros padres. De esa
misma manera, el espejo nos tendría que decir que cada día
nos parecemos más a Dios si en verdad somos imagen y
semejanza suya. Cada día tendríamos que parecernos más a
Dios si en verdad somos hijos suyos.

Tendremos que reflejar en nuestro rostro y en nuestra vida la
creatividad, el ingenio, la alegría, el amor para mejorar este
mundo maravilloso y encantador en el que nos ha tocado vivir, y
emplear toda nuestra capacidad para mejorar este mundo que
salió bello y armónico de las manos de Dios. Somos hechura del
Padre que se complació en nosotros e hizo este mundo bello
como el teatro en que tenemos que ir realizando nuestro papel
cocreador con nuestro Dios, engendrando un mundo en que la
armonía entre las cosas y los seres humanos sea la nota distintiva, empleando toda nuestra capacidad para desterrar la basura,
el desorden, el destrozo de la naturaleza, y realzar la armonía
entre los mismos seres humanos, que tenemos entre otras
muchas cosas bellas que Dios nos ha dado, la capacidad de engendrar nuevos seres para este mundo. No le tengamos miedo a
la vida. Es el distintivo de nuestro Creador y tiene que ser también el distintivo de los humanos. Cuando viene la primavera los
tallos de las plantas que habían estado inactivos, como muertos,
cobran nueva vida y aparecen los botones y enseguida las flores
vario-pintas y fragantes. Así tiene que ser la primavera de nuestra vida que se prolonga de día en día.
Pero también tenemos que parecernos cada día un
poquito más a Cristo el Señor, a Jesús, al Salvador, al Hijo de
Dios, que tiene su delicia estar con los hombres, hermanarlos,
hacerlos una sola familia, acercarlos los unos a los otros, de
manera que las barreras que nos dividen, el color, la raza, el dinero, las comodidades, los bienes materiales nos lleguen a parecer ridículos y tendamos puentes para que la miseria, los vicios,
los crímenes, las violaciones, la maldad, la división y la muerte
se nos conviertan en cosa del pasado. Parece difícil, ¿pero no
nos dijo Jesús: "Yo estaré todos los días con ustedes hasta el fin
del mundo?" ¿A qué tenerle miedo? Aún un vaso de agua dado
en el nombre de Jesús no quedará sin recompensa, ¿qué pasará
si empeñamos toda nuestra vida en lograr la unidad y la paz entre todos los hombres?
Pero ya que hemos seguido esta línea, algo que siempre
denotará nuestro espejo invisible, será el amor con que Dios nos
ha adornado, y que tendrá que ser perfectamente reconocible
cuando nos presentemos al tribunal de Dios. Y no tendrá que ser
cualquier amor, hecho según las dimensiones del corazón humano, sino el Amor mismo de Dios manifestado en la persona
de Cristo Hijo de Dios que se entregó por nosotros y también
por el Espíritu Santo de Dios al que llamamos el Espíritu de
Amor, y que se refleja en cada uno de los que nos rodean, sobre
todo en los más pequeños: "Todo lo que hiciste con el más pequeño de mis hermanos a mí me lo hiciste", nos dice Jesús. Ver
a Jesús en los pequeños, en los pobres, en los necesitados hasta
verlos como mis propios hermanos, será fruto de la presencia
del Espíritu Santo en nosotros, y así seremos más parecidos al
Dios que nos ha dado la vida.

Por cierto, al llegar a este punto, debo decirles que estamos celebrando la Fiesta de la Santísima Trinidad, ante la que no caben
sino dos actitudes: en primer lugar, la contemplación, la acción
de gracias, la alabanza, la alegría por Dios que se nos ha manifestado en su intimidad porque nos quiere y nos ama, y segundo,
una vida nueva, de entrega, de generosidad, de amor a todos los
que nos rodean y a todo lo que nos rodea, pretendiendo vivir
inmersos en ese Amor de Dios manifestado en su Hijo y en el
Espíritu Santo, hasta ser como los pececillos en el agua.
Felicidades, Oh Trinidad Santa, Oh Trinidad inmaculada, Felicidades Oh Dios Creador, Felicidades Oh Espíritu de
Amor, Felicidades Oh Jesús, Hijo de Dios que nos has metido a
la inmensidad del Amor de nuestro Dios, hasta lanzarnos la invitación a vivir en ese seno de amor y de esperanza.
Felicidades a todos mis amigos, porque en cada uno de
ustedes veo el rostro de mi Señor, de mi Creador, del Dios que
nos ama a todos con locura.

Un solo Dios en tres Personas: El Padre,
el Hijo y el Espíritu Santo.
La Iglesia dedica el siguiente domingo
después de Pentecostés a al celebración del
día de la Santísima Trinidad,
Un misterio es todo aquello que no podemos entender
con la razón. Es algo que sólo podemos comprender cuando
Dios nos lo revela.
El misterio de la Santísima Trinidad -Un sólo Dios en
tres Personas distintas-, es el misterio central de la fe y de la vida
cristiana, pues es el misterio de Dios en Sí mismo.
Aunque es un dogma difícil de entender, fue el primero
que entendieron los Apóstoles. Después de la Resurrección,
comprendieron que Jesús era el Salvador enviado por el Padre.
Y, cuando experimentaron la acción del Espíritu Santo dentro de
sus corazones en Pentecostés, comprendieron que el único Dios
era Padre, Hijo y Espíritu Santo.
`Los católicos creemos que la Trinidad es Una. No creemos en tres dioses, sino en un sólo Dios en tres Personas distintas. No es que Dios esté dividido en tres, pues cada una de las
tres Personas es enteramente Dios.
Padre, Hijo y Espíritu Santo tienen la misma naturaleza,
la misma divinidad, la misma eternidad, el mismo poder, la
misma perfección; son un sólo Dios. Además, sabemos que cada
una de las Personas de la Santísima Trinidad está totalmente
contenida en las otras dos, pues hay una comunión perfecta entre
ellas.
Con todo, las personas de la Santísima Trinidad son
distintas entre sí, dada la diversidad de su misión: Dios Hijo-por
quien son todas las cosas- es enviado por Dios Padre, es nuestro
Salvador. Dios Espíritu Santo-en quien son todas las cosas- es el
enviado por el Padre y por el Hijo, es nuestro Santificador.

Lo vemos claramente en la Creación, en la Encarnación y en Pentecostés
En la Creación, Dios Padre está como principio de
todo lo que existe.
En la Encarnación, Dios se encarna, por amor a
nosotros, en Jesús, para liberarnos del pecado y llevarnos a la
vida eterna.
En Pentecostés, el Padre y el Hijo se hacen presentes
en la vida del hombre en la Persona del Espíritu santo, cuya
misión es santificarnos, iluminándonos y ayudándonos con sus
dones a alcanzar la vida eterna.
Para explicar este gran misterio, existen ciertos símbolos que son entendibles a nuestra razón: La Santísima Trinidad es simbolizada como un triángulo.
Cada uno de los vértices es parte del mismo triángulo y sin
embargo cada uno es distinto
También podemos simbolizar a la Santísima Trinidad
como una vela encendida: La vela en sí misma simboliza al
Padre, la cera que escurre es el Hijo, que procede del Padre y
la llama encendida es el Espíritu Santo. Los tres son "vela",
pero son distintos entre sí. Hay quienes simbolizan a la
Santísima Trinidad en forma de trébol. Cada una de las hojas
es "trébol" pero son distintas entre sí.
¿Que hacemos al persignarnos? "En el nombre del
Padre y del Hijo y del Espíritu Santo" Es costumbre de los
católicos repetir frecuentemente estas palabras, principalmente
al principio y al fin de nuestras acciones.
Cada vez que hacemos la Señal de la Cruz sobre
nuestro cuerpo, recordamos el misterio de la Santísima Trinidad.
- En el nombre del Padre: Ponemos la mano sobre la
frente, señalando el cerebro que controla todo nuestro cuerpo,
recordando en forma simbólica que Dios es la fuente de nuestra vida.
-...y del Hijo: Colocamos la mano en el pecho, donde
está el corazón, que simboliza al amor. Recordamos con ello
que por amor a los hombres, Jesucristo se encarnó, murió y
resucitó para librarnos del pecado y llevarnos a la vida eterna.
-...Y del Espíritu Santo: Colocamos la mano en el
hombre izquierdo y luego en el derecho, recordando que el
Espíritu Santo nos ayuda a cargar con el peso de nuestra vida,
el que nos ilumina y nos da la gracia para vivir de acuerdo a
los mandatos de Jesucristo.
Algunas personas argumentan que no es verdad
porque no podemos entender el misterio de la Santísima Trinidad a través de la razón. Esto es cierto, no podemos entenderlo
con la sola razón, necesitamos de la fe ya que se trata de un
misterio. Es un misterio hermoso en el que Dios nos envía a su
Hijo para salvarnos.
