Desde la apertura de Golf Son Gual, año
tras año hemos podido sentir el orgullo

Momentan gibt es in Spanien drei Mitglieder,
bis Ende des Jahres soll deren Anzahl auf fünf
erhöht werden. Alle Länder arbeiten zusammen
und engagieren sich dafür, dass unsere Organisation auch in anderen Ländern Fuß fasst. Der
Golfplatz Son Gual ist eines der ersten Mitglieder bei The Leading Golf Courses in Spanien.
Wie beurteilen Sie Son Gual?
Son Gual ist für The Leading Golf Courses ein international anerkanntes Vorbild und ein Musterbeispiel für höchste
Qualität, vorzügliches Management und
die Leidenschaft einer ganzen Familie für
den Golfsport. Wir können viel von diesem
Golfclub lernen.
Welche Marketingstrategien setzt The
Leading Golf Courses um, damit das
Gütesiegel noch bekannter wird? Finden Promotion-Turniere statt?
Im Oktober findet im schottischen Turnberry der The Leading Turnberry Cup
statt. Wir laden alle Mitglieder herzlich
zu diesem dreitägigen Turnier ein. Hoffentlich gewinnt ein Team von Son Gual,
vielleicht sind es aber auch die Österreicher oder die Italiener, wer weiß? Unsere
Strategie wird in den Qualitätsstatuten
und im Business Plan des europäischen
Stammhauses von The Leading Golf Courses vorgegeben – höchste Qualitätsstandards und exzellenter Service auf den

With regard to the situation in Spain, how
many courses are there in this organisation?
What plans are there for the short and medium term? How do Spain and Italy collaborate?
In Spain there are three members at present,
but we predict that there will be five by the
end of 2013. There is collaboration between
all the countries so that the organisation can
grow progressively. Golf Son Gual is one of
the first clubs to form part of this organisation in Spain.
Incidentally, what is your opinion of Son
Gual?
The Son Gual course is an international beacon for The Leading Golf Courses and we
hold it up as a model of quality, exquisite
maintenance and a family’s passion for the
world of golf. One can learn a great deal from
it as a club.
Will some kind of The Leading Golf Courses event be held soon to continue promoting the organisation, on a national or
international level? What steps are you
going to take to ensure this hallmark
becomes even more well-known?
The Leading Turnberry Cup tournament will
be held in October, in Turnberry, Scotland.
All the courses that belong to the organisation are invited to compete for three days.
We hope a team of members of Son Gual can
win, or perhaps the Austrians or Italians will
win, who knows?... The steps that outline our
future are those established by the quality
statutes and business plan of our European
parent company which bring quality, service
and excellence to Europe’s best clubs.

empleamos como un ejemplo de calidad, mantenimiento exquisito y pasión de una familia
por el mundo del golf. Es un club del que se
puede aprender mucho.
¿Se celebrará algún evento próximamente
de The Leading Golf Courses para seguir
promoviendo la organización, ya sea a
nivel nacional o internacional? ¿Qué pasos
van a seguir para que este sello sea aún
más conocido?
En octubre tendrá lugar el torneo The Leading Turnberry Cup en Turnberry, Escocia.
Todos los campos pertenecientes a la organización están invitados a competir durante
tres días. Esperamos que pueda ganar un
equipo de socios de Son Gual, o tal vez ganen
los austriacos o italianos, quién sabe... Los

Die 19-jährige Lauren Mackin ist die
junge Hoffnungsträgerin im Profigolf
der Damen. Die Leidenschaft für Sport
liegt ihr im Blut, Laurens Vater und ihr
Bruder waren Fußball- bzw. Tennisprofis
in Schottland. Zwischen den Turnieren
trainiert Lauren täglich sechs Stunden
auf Son Gual, mit dem klaren Ziel, ihre
Karriere voranzutreiben.

At 19 years of age, Lauren Mackin is a
promising young professional woman golfer. And a sporty nature obviously runs in
the family, because her father and brother
were a professional footballer and tennis
player respectively, in Scotland. Between
tournaments Lauren trains for around six
hours a day at Son Gual, with the clear goal
of moving ahead with her career.
A sus 19 años, Lauren Mackin es una joven
promesa del golf femenino profesional.
De casta le viene al galgo pues su padre
y su hermano han sido futbolista y tenista
profesionales en Escocia, respectivamente. Entre torneo y torneo, Lauren entrena
unas seis horas al día en Son Gual, con el
objetivo claro de dar un paso adelante en
su carrera.
Wie läuft Ihr Tag auf Son Gual ab?
Normalerweise komme ich um 10 Uhr und
beginne in der driving range und den neuen
Logicalgolf-Anlagen. Dann arbeite ich mehr als
eine Stunde an meinem swing und schließe
mit diversen Kurzspiel-Übungen ab. Zusätzlich
trainiere ich im Fitness Studio Profitness in
Palma, wo ich unglaublich gut betreut werde.
Warum haben Sie diesen Platz ausgewählt?
Ganz einfach, weil Son Gual der beste Court
der Insel und viel schwerer zu meistern ist, als
die Plätze, auf denen ich bei Turnieren spiele.
Das ist sehr nützlich für mich. Golfen ist mein
Job und ich schätze es sehr, wenn ich, wie
auf Son Gual, in ruhiger Umgebung spielen
kann. Außerdem bekomme ich von der Familie
Pamer viel Unterstützung.
Ihre Stärken und Schwächen beim
Golfspiel?
Das putting ist ganz klar meine starke Seite,
während meine Abschläge länger werden
müssen. Tim Holroyd ist mir dabei eine
große Hilfe.
Wie schätzen Sie den aktuellen Stand des
Profigolfs der Damen ein?
Ehrlich gesagt, steht es nicht gerade gut um
die Profidamen. Es gibt immer mehr japanische und asiatische Spielerinnen, die wie
Maschinen trainieren. Ich bin in diesem Sommer für die Scottisch Ladies Tour angemeldet.
Vor kurzem habe ich mehrere Turniere in den
USA absolviert und es hat mir gut gefallen.
Das Niveau ist sehr hoch, ich würde gern mehr
dort spielen.
Welche Ziele haben Sie sich mittel- und
langfristig gesetzt?
Das ideale Alter für eine Golferin liegt zwischen 22 und 23 Jahren, ich hab also noch ein
bisschen Zeit, um als Spielerin zu reifen. Aber
mit 25 möchte ich schon so einiges vorzuweisen haben. Wenn das nicht klappt, würde ich
gern Golfunterricht für Kinder geben.
What is your everyday routine at Son
Gual like?
I usually arrive at around 10 am; I start on the
driving range, warming up on the new Logicalgolf installations. Afterwards I work on my
swing for over an hour, and then I end up with
different short game exercises. Apart from that
I train in the gym Profitness in Palma, where
they treat me incredibly well.
Why did you choose this course?
Quite simply because Son Gual is the best
course on the island. And much harder than
many of the courses I usually play on in tournaments, which is quite good for me. Golf is
my work, so it’s important for me to play in
a quiet atmosphere like Son Gual, plus I am
given great support by the Pamer family.
What are your strong and weak points
as a player?
Without a doubt my strength is my short game
and putting. By contrast, I need to drive a little
harder at the start, and gain more distance.
Tim Holroyd is helping me a great deal with
this aspect.
What is the current state of the women’s
professional circuit?
It isn’t at its best, to be honest. There are more
and more Japanese and Oriental players who
train loads, they’re like machines. Right now
I’m on the Scottish circuit. A short while ago I
returned from playing in several tournaments
in the United States, and I loved the experience, the level is really high. I would love to
play in there more often.
What are your medium and longterm goals?
The age of perfect maturity for a woman player is 22-23, so I still have a few years ahead
me before reaching it. My idea is to have
achieved important things by the time I’m 25.
And if it doesn’t work out the way I hope, I
would love to give golf lessons to children.
¿Cómo es su día a día en Son Gual?
Suelo llegar a las 10 h., empiezo en el driving
range, calentando en las nuevas instalaciones
de Logicalgolf. Posteriormente trabajo más de
una hora el swing, para terminar con diversos
ejercicios de juego corto. Aparte, entreno en
el gimansio Profitness de Palma, donde me
tratan de forma increíble.
¿Por qué eligió este campo?
Sencillamente, porque Son Gual es el mejor
campo de la isla. Y más difícil que muchos
de los campos en los que suelo jugar en los
torneos, lo cual me sirve bastante. El golf es mi
trabajo, por eso es importante para mí hacerlo
en un ambiente tranquilo como el de Son Gual,
además de recibir un gran apoyo por parte de
la familia Pamer.
¿Cuáles son sus puntos fuertes y débiles
como jugadora?
Mi lado fuerte es sin duda el juego corto y
el putting. Por el contrario, debo pegar un
poco más largo de salida, ganar más distancia. Tim Holroyd me está ayudando mucho
en este aspecto.
¿Cuál es el estado actual del circuito profesional femenino?
No atraviesa su mejor momento, la verdad.
Cada vez hay más jugadoras japonesas y orientales, que entrenan una barbaridad, son como
máquinas. Yo ahora estoy inscrita en el circuito
escocés. Hace poco he vuelto de jugar varios
torneos por Estados Unidos, me ha encantado
la experiencia, el nivel es altísimo. Me encantaría jugar más a menudo en aquel país.
¿Qué objetivos tiene marcados a medio
y largo plazo?
La edad de madurez perfecta para una jugadora son los 22-23 años, por lo que aún me
faltan algunos para llegar. Mi idea es haber
logrado cosas importantes a los 25. Y si no se
da como yo quiero, me encantaría dedicarme
a dar clases de golf a niños.

now, Peter Hanraths is one of the most
influential people in the world of boxing.
The discoverer, Manager and mentor of
the Klitschko brothers after the Atlanta
’96 Olympics, Mr. Hanraths goes out to
play on the Son Gual course every day
whenever he is in Mallorca.

How long have you been playing golf?
I started playing seven years ago, after reaching the age of 60. And I taught myself, with no
instructors. I have always done lots of sport.
Right now, golf enables me to keep fit without
having to punish myself too much.
How might golf and boxing be similar?
They are both sports which require a great
deal of discipline, great dedication and hard
work to improve day by day. Otherwise it is
impossible to grow and attain goals.
What led you to join Golf Son Gual?
I have had a house on Mallorca for years, and
previously I played on other courses on the
island. But I never found anywhere like Son
Gual, which keeps the course in such perfect

Seit wann spielen Sie Golf?
Ich habe vor sieben Jahren angefangen, als ich
60 geworden bin. Als Autodidakt, ohne Lehrer,
ich habe schon immer viel Sport getrieben. Mit
dem Golfspiel halte ich mich fit, ohne dass ich
mich zu sehr verausgaben muss.
Worin gleichen sich Golf und Boxen?
Beide Sportarten erfordern viel Disziplin und
Hingabe. Man muss hart arbeiten, um erfolgreich zu sein. Andernfalls kann man seine
Ziele nicht umsetzen.
Warum sind Sie Mitglied im Golfclub Son
Gual geworden?
Ich habe seit vielen Jahren ein Haus auf
Mallora. Anfangs habe ich auf anderen Golfplätzen gespielt, aber nie einen Platz gefunden, der sich mit Son Gual messen könnte.
Hier sind Court und Anlagen wirklich immer
in perfektem Zustand. Es herrscht eine sehr
vertraute, familiäre Athmosphäre, man merkt,

Erstens, warum kommen die Weltmeister im
Schwergewicht nicht länger aus den USA?
Die amerikanischen Trainingsmethoden sind schlicht
überholt, während in Europa und im Osten Trainingsmethoden angewandt werden, die nachhaltiger
auf Athletik und Kondition ausgerichtet sind.
Nummer zwei: Können Sie verstehen, dass
es die Boxfans ermüdet, wenn immer nur
die Klitschkos gewinnen?
Ja, das ist normal. Die Leute wollen, dass endlich Bewegung in die Schwergewichtsklasse
kommt. Aber im Moment sind die Klitschkos
unschlagbar.
Und drittens: Nehmen wir mal an, die
Klitschko-Brüder würden gegen Muhammed Ali und Mike Tyson antreten. Wer
würde zu Boden gehen?
Beim Boxen kann ein Schlag alles entscheiden.
Trotzdem, Ali und Tyson hätten es sehr schwer,
als Sieger aus dem Kampf hervorzugehen.

The training methods in the US have become
obsolete. Eastern European coaches have
brought in a new training discipline, more
intensive and athletic.
Two: is it normal for fans to grow a
little tired of seeing the Klitschkos win
all the time?
Yes, it is normal; people want something
to happen in the heavyweight category.
But for now the Klitschkos are unbeatable.
And three: in a hypothetical fight, held
now, between the Klitschko brothers and
Muhammad Ali and Mike Tyson, who would
wind up kissing the canvas?
In boxing one blow can change everything. But
if these fights were to take place, Ali or Tyson
would have very little chance of winning.

¿Desde cuando juega usted al golf?
Empecé a jugar hace siete años, con los 60
años cumplidos. Y lo hice de manera autodidacta, sin profesores. Siempre he practicado
mucho deporte. El golf, en estos momentos,
me permite seguir estando en forma sin tener
que castigarme excesivamente.
¿En qué podrían parecerse en golf y el boxeo?
Ambos son deportes que requieren mucha
disciplina, una gran dedicación y trabajo duro
para ir mejorando día a día. De lo contrario, es
imposible crecer y lograr los objetivos.
¿Qué le llevó a hacerse miembro de Golf
Son Gual?
Tengo una casa en Mallorca desde hace años,
y he jugado en otros campos de la isla anteriormente. Pero nunca encontré un lugar
como Son Gual, que mantiene el campo en
una condiciones tan perfectas, al igual que el
resto de las instalaciones. Además la atención
es familiar y muy cercana, se nota que aquí
las cosas se hacen de corazón. Desde que soy
miembro he conocido a mucha gente y he
hecho nuevos amigos. Es un verdadero placer
para mí pertenecer a esta gran familia.
Para terminar, tres preguntas de boxeo.
Una: ¿Por qué en Estados Unidos ya no salen
campeones mundiales de los pesos pesados?
Los métodos de entrenamiento en Estados Unidos se han quedado obsoletos. Los entrenadores
de Europa del Este han traído una nueva disciplina de entrenamiento, más intensiva y atlética.
Dos: ¿es normal que los aficionados se
cansen un poco de ver ganar siempre a los
Klitschko?
Sí, es normal, la gente desea que suceda algo en
la categoría de los pesados. Pero de momento
los Klitschkos son imbatibles.
Y tres: en un hipotético combate a día de
hoy entre los hermanos Klitschko contra
Muhammed Alí y Mike Tyson, ¿quién acabaría besando la lona?
En boxeo un golpe puede cambiarlo todo. Pero
si estos combates se produjeran, Alí o Tyson
tendrían muy pocas probabilidades de vencer.

Golf Son Gual for the loyalty they show
year after year is to improve the areas
designed for their enjoyment, providing
an increasing number of services and
commodities.
For some time now Son Gual members have
had a preferential area on the practice range,
cordoned off exclusively for them. And the
best spaces in the parking area are reserved
for them to use. Added to this is the unlimited use of all the facilities (course, practice
zone, changing rooms), and of the sauna area

Before the Pamer family decided to build
Golf Son Gual, the land now occupied by
the course was a large stretch of land that
was going to waste. Eight years later, that
same space is something akin to an oasis in
the midst of nature for a large number of natural species and animals, which have made Son
Gual their “home”.

wie sorgsam man auf Son Gual mit natürlichen
Ressourcen umgeht und sich um den Erhalt
der heimischen Flora und Fauna bemüht.
The purely Mediterranean ecosystem, with
more than 800 ancient olive trees, contains
ponds, palm trees, shrubs and flowers typical of this region, as well as a large lake
where several aquatic species co-exist.
On land, tortoises, ducks, flamingos, small
snakes and the odd mole are regulars at Son
Gual. In the sky falcons, owls and numerous indigenous bird species fly over the spacious installations.
We should point out that with its osmosis
system (water recycling plant), Son Gual is a
perfectly sustainable golf club, which not only
does not spend external resources, but even
contributes to the survival of the wealth of
local fauna and flora.
El ecosistema puramente mediterráneo, con
más de 800 olivos centenarios, cuenta con
lagos, palmeras, arbustos y flores típicas de
estos parajes, además del gran lago en el que
conviven varias especies acuáticas. En tierra,
tortugas, patos, flamencos, pequeñas serpientes y algún que otro topo son asiduos de Son
Gual. Desde el cielo, halcones, búhos y múltiples especies autóctonas de aves sobrevuelan
las amplias instalaciones.
Destacar que con su sistema de osmosis (planta recicladora de agua), Son Gual es un club
de golf perfectamente sostenible, que no sólo
no gasta en recursos exteriores, sino que contribuye a la supervivencia de la rica fauna y
flora del lugar.

Amongst other cutting-edge machines, Son
Gual has a Classen Sod Cutter to regenerate
small patches of turf which can then be
installed on the course; a Toro Multi Pro
1250 Sprayer, which spreads nutrients
and fertilizers; a Toro Greenspro 1200,
to keep the green simply perfect; or the
Sidewinder, also by Toro, which leaves the
area surrounding the course in an unbeatable condition. One huge John Deere tractor, along with trailers and other transportation vehicles, has joined the fleet of
over one hundred machines and vehicles
belonging to Golf Son Gual.

Seit mehr als 13 Jahren. Ich fing mit 18 an,
bevor der Golfplatz gebaut wurde, als es hier
nur Brachland gab. Ich zäunte das Terrain ein,
jätete Unkraut und bereitete den Boden vor.
Der Platz hat sich seitdem ganz schön verändert...
Das kann man wohl sagen! Son Gual ist wundervoll geworden, mit seiner Pflanzenwelt,
den Seen, dem imposanten Gutshaus. Er gilt
als einer der besten Plätze in Spanien und
Europa und das aus gutem Grund.
Was ist für Sie der herausragendste Vorzug
des Platzes?
Die Hindernisse, die strategisch angelegten
Bunker, für jeden Golfspieler ein Anreiz und
eine anspruchsvolle Herausforderung.
Wie läuft Ihr Arbeitstag auf Son Gual ab?
Jeder Tag ist anders, mit unterschiedlichen Arbeiten. Mal schneiden wir die
fairways , mal die greens , dann kümmern
wir uns um die Dränage, verlegen Rohre,
pflegen die Olivenbäume – auf Son Gual
wird es nie langweilig!
How long have you been working at Son
Gual?
I started when I was 18 (more than 13 years
ago now), even before construction of the course
began, when there was nothing at all here. I used
to prepare the land, lock up, clear away weeds...
What a big change, to see what that land
has turned into today...
Yes indeed!... Today Son Gual is a beautiful
place, with its vegetation, its ponds, the palace,
which is impressive... They say it’s one of the
best courses in Spain and Europe, and there
must be a reason for that.
What would you highlight about the
course itself?
The ‘traps’, the strategically-located bunkers;
they are both an incentive and a great challenge for players.
What is your everyday life at Son Gual like?
Every day is different, we never do the same.
One day you cut the fairway, another day
the greens, the next day you take care of the
drainage, install tubes, tidy up the olive trees...
There’s never any time to get bored!
¿Desde cuándo lleva usted trabajando en
Son Gual?
Empecé con 18 años (hace más de 13), incluso antes de que empezara la construcción
del campo, cuando aquí no había nada. Me
encargaba de empezar a preparar el terreno,
cerrarlo, limpiarlo de malas hierbas...
Pues menudo cambio ver en lo que se ha
convertido hoy ese terreno...
¡Sí, la verdad!... Son Gual es hoy un lugar precioso, con su vegetación, sus lagos, el palacio
que es impresionante... Dicen que es uno de
los mejores campos de España y de Europa,
por algo será.
¿Qué destacaría del campo en sí?
Las “trampas”, los bunkers estratégicamente
situados, suponen un aliciente y un gran reto
para los jugadores.
¿Cómo es su día a día en Son Gual?
Cada día es distinto, nunca hacemos lo mismo.
Un día cortas el fairway, otro los greenes, al
siguiente te ocupas del drenaje, de instalar
tubos, arreglar los olivos... ¡No hay tiempo
para aburrirse!

food, ranging from sandwiches, salads
and typical Spanish tapas, to exquisitelyprepared dishes made with top-quality fish
and meat. It also has a wine cellar with both

lounge, a “between holes” service is also
available to players, which means they can
order their food from the restaurant halfway round the course (either from their

number 8 tee), and in under 20 minutes it
