LINK Dancers 2014
Madeleine Bird
Madeleine began her dance studies in regional NSW with her local dance school Colour City Dance Works. She continued to dance
through her schooling years and after successfully auditioning for the
Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts, she moved to Perth
and graduated last year with an Advanced Diploma of Performing Arts
Dance. She has worked with choreographers and répétiteurs such as
Kim McCarthy, Andries Weidemann, Diana de Vos, Eve Lawson, and
Taipei National University of Arts resident choreographer Xaio- Xiong
Zhang. In her first year of study at WAAPA, she was lucky enough to
perform George Balanchine’s Serenade, remounted by Eve Lawson,
and in the final year of her Advanced Diploma, she toured to China to
perform Xaio-Xiong Zhang’s Rite of Spring and Kim McCarthy’s Violins
at the Beijing Normal University International Creative Dance Seminar.
She also learnt Nacho Duato’s Jardi Tancat, remounted by Kim McCarthy, and performed the soloist role of ‘Dawn’ for her graduating performance of The Coppelia Suite.
Aimee Brown
Originally from Canberra Aimee started dancing when she was 2 years
old. At the age of 17 Aimee became a member of QL2’S Quantum Leap
a renowned youth ensemble directed by Ruth Osborne. Through this
Aimee had the opportunity to work with such choreographers as Liz
Lea, Marko Panzic, Reed Luplau, Marnie Palomares, and Anton.
In 2013 Aimee graduated from Adelaide College of the Arts with a Bachelor of Dance Performance. While studying at ACArts Aimee was under
the direction of Peter Sheedy, Sally Collard-Gentle and Lisa Heaven.
She has also had the opportunity to work closely with Aidan Kane Munn,
Katrina Lazarofff, Lina Limosani, and Gabrielle Nankivell
During her 3rd year at AC Arts Aimee collaborated with composer Nathan Cummings to create Blonde as part of the fringe performance Rip
Drag Ruminate which received an honourable mention at the fringe
awards.
Aimee is very excited to be working with LINK in 2014 and is looking
forward to the challenges ahead.

Sarah Chaffey
Born in 1991 and raised in rural NSW, Sarah graduated with a Bachelor
of Arts (Dance) at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts
at the conclusion of 2013. During her tertiary studies, she had the pleasure in working with both national and international acclaimed choreographers in performance and showed promise in her own dance making.
In collaboration with visual arts and contemporary music students, she
was involved in creating two interdisciplinary gallery installations called
Ephemeral (2012) and The Ephemeral Project (2013). Her third year
choreographic piece At 6s and 7s depicting the affect of Alzheimer’s on
family, was selected to be performed in both the Student work season
and AusDance NSW’s Bridge Dance Intensive in 2013.
Rachel Forster-Jones
Rachel-Olivia was born in South Africa and began dancing at the age
of four. Before relocating to Australia in 2008, Rachel spent two years
studying at Pro Arte, a full-time arts school specialising in performing and visual arts; in 2008 Rachel starred as one of the Good Fairies in Sleeping Beauty Prologue. In Australia, she finished high school
through the Queensland Dance School of Excellence in Brisbane. She
auditioned for WAAPA in 2010 and was accepted in to the Advanced
Diploma of Performing Arts (Dance) course. Highlights of her time at
WAAPA include performing in Balanchine’s Serenade in 2011, as well
as performing in Kim McCarthy’s Violins and Xiao-Xiong Zhang’s Rite
of Spring both in Perth and in Beijing, China, as a part of the 2013 BNU
International Dance Seminar. Rachel joined Link Dance Company for
2014 to pursue her dream as a contemporary dancer.

Kate Jenkins
Kate began dancing at the age of four at a local school in Port Hedland.
Upon moving to Perth for high school she commenced training at the
Kim Baker Ballet Academy before being accepted into the Bachelor of
Arts (Dance) course at WAAPA. Throughout her three years of training
at WAAPA, Kate has enjoyed many highlights and has worked with notable choreographers such as Leigh Warren, Xiao Xiong Zhang, Paul
O’Sullivan, Rhiannon Newton and Charlie Hodges. In 2012 she was
given the fantastic opportunity to spend a semester in the dance course
at Purchase College in New York as part of the exchange program. Last
year Kate took part in a creative seminar in Beijing alongside many
other WAAPA students. Whilst in Beijing they attended workshops and
performed with dance students from Beijing Normal University.
Emily Malone
Prior to commencing full time training at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts, Emily studied dance under the encouraging
watch of Patricia and Valma Saill at their studio in Sydney. Emily graduated from WAAPA with a Bachelor of Arts in 2013 and during her time
there, worked with a wide range of nationally and internationally respected choreographers such as Raewyn Hill, Xiaoxiong Zhang, Leigh
Warren, Charlie Hodges, Jo Pollitt and Rhiannon Newton, among others. In 2013, Emily was lucky to be a part of WAAPA’s international collaboration with Beijing Normal University, performing Xiaoxiong Zhang’s
work Rite of Spring in China. Emily is very excited to be joining LINK
Dance Company for 2014, and looks forward to the challenges ahead.

Amy Thieme
Originally from rural Queensland, Amy has recently graduated with a
Bachelor of Arts from the Western Australian Academy of Performing
Arts. Since attending WAAPA (2011-2013), highlights during her studies
include; being selected to undertake study with Taipei National University of the Arts (TNUA) and performing the lead female role in, Xiaoxing
Zhang’s, Rite of Spring. Whilst at TNUA, Amy performed Natalie Wier’s
His Weeping. In 2013 Amy toured to Beijing, China, performing Rite
of Spring and Kim McCarthy’s Violin’s. Amy is also passionate about
teaching Classical Ballet (RAD) and Contemporary dance. At the commencement of 2014, Amy facilitated an intensive dance workshop, providing children from regional and remote areas, the opportunity to gain
exposure to a wide range of dance styles. This year, Amy looks forward
to furthering her qualifications, with Link Dance Company.
Zoe Wozniak
Zoe graduated in 2013 from the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts with a Bachelor of Arts (Dance). Upon graduation she was
the recipient of the ‘Most Outstanding Graduate from the Bachelor of
Arts, Dance Course’.
Zoe was a member of Steps Youth Dance Company from 2010-2011
performing in Phoenix and Phoenix regional tour under the artistic direction of Alice Lee Holland.
During her training at WAAPA, Zoe has undertaken choreographic research led by Charlie Hodges and in 2012 performed Twyla Tharp’s
Sweet Fields at the Australian Dance Awards as an undergraduate guest
dancer in LINK. She performed Fugue choreographed by Raewyn Hill
and in her final year of training she performed the lead female role in
Xio-Xiong Zhang’s Rite of Spring. This same work was toured to China
as part of the Beijing Normal University International Creative Dance
Seminar in Beijing. Later in 2013 Zoe performed Leigh Warren’s debut
work There’s No Time Like the Present and Nacho Duato’s Jardi Tancat, restaged by Kim McCarthy.
Most recently Zoe has performed in the 2014 Perth Fringe Festival in
Brooke Leeder’s Mechanic. Zoe is looking forward to be a part of LINK
Dance Company 2014.
