Technology that drives you forward –
yesterday, today and tomorrow
With the stepless Vario technology, Fendt has set a milestone in the agricultural engineering industry. Both professional farmers and contractors alike are convinced by this
ground-breaking technology. Low fuel consumption values and outstanding efficiency are
important advantages of a Fendt Vario in addition to the unparalleled ride and operating
comfort. Fendt presents future-oriented innovations at the Agritechnica 2009, including
the 200 Vario, the new 800 Vario with completely reworked electronics and a fully-integral
tyre pressure control system for the 900 Vario high-horsepower tractor range.
The comprehensive Fendt harvesting line includes harvesting machines for the full
market, starting from entry level models to a high capacity rotary combine. A highlight in
threshing and separation capacity is the new Fendt hybrid combine, launched at the
Agritechnica 2009. Today the product portfolio includes 22 combines, five round baler
and seven square baler models. Now only the Fendt forage harvester is missing, but it is
being developed under full power in Marktoberdorf and will be launched in 2011.

Genuine pioneer work: The development
of the stepless Fendt Vario transmission
Robert Honzek, head of preliminary development
today, was responsible for the “Continuously
Variable Transmission” project at
Fendt development. In 1987,
a small team of three developers
began to write agricultural
machinery history. Honzek recollects the most exciting time of
his career and reports that the
idea to develop a stepless transmission goes back to the 70s.
The vision of a “true” stepless transmission
The godfather of the Vario transmission technology was
Hans Marschall, a young and ambitious design engineer
at Fendt at that time. He had the vision of developing a
continuously variable transmission with an especially
powerful hydrostatic and a variable mechanical branch.
True stepless shifting procedures are only possible
through sophisticated power splitting of hydrostatic
and mechanics. The biggest challenge was to enable
exceptional efficiency. The solution: the development of
high-capacity axial hydrostat units (pump/engine) with
a 45 degree swing angle and a system pressure of 500
bar. An approach that no one knew about at that time,
and a path that no other manufacturer other than Fendt
took. Hans Marschall, design engineer in my group “axle
steering and accessories” told me of his vision at the end
of the 70s and we had several talks concerning his idea.
At that time Fendt did not have the resources to drive
this development forward, since the market situation at
that time was very difficult. But Marschall was so
convinced of his vision that he continued
to work on his concept at home and constructed his first
transmission there.
First practical test for the “Vario” concept
“At the beginning of the 80s it was finally ready: The
managing director for development at that time, Professor Alfred Stroppel, enabled the construction of the
first prototype of the hydrostatics. The pure hydrostatics
were tested on the testing stand and the results were
clear: the efficiency was surprisingly good, Marschall
was on the right path. The construction of the first Vario
transmission, installed in a Favorit 600 followed. The
prototype underwent thorough testing. For example,
the first prototype pulled a heavy trailer up the 1,005
metre high Auerberg, Marktoberdorf’s local “mountain”,
many times. And the transmission, which was nowhere
near mature at that time, held up well, the basic design
concept had proven itself. The successful tests gave us
the decisive motivation we required to press ahead with
the development of the drive.”
Starting shot for the “Vario” development.
In 1988, the decision was made to develop the continuously variable Vario transmission to series production
readiness at Fendt. I was appointed the head of the
project with two responsible design engineers. The
“Vario” concept was so new at that time that we naturally also had sceptics within our own company. But
from the beginning we were utterly convinced that we
would write a piece of Fendt history. Within the Fendt
development department, we were given the name
“Jugend forscht” (name
of
German
youth
research competition).
And we really were
young engineers, who
had formed a close
group to realise a vision.
Marschall was only able
to accompany us for
three months. He died
of cancer on 5 August 1989 at the early age of 53.
Unfortunately he only had the privilege of seeing the
beginning of the series development of the Vario
transmission. Internally we still designate the Vario
transmission the ML transmission. ML stands for
Marschall Leistungsverzweigung (power splitting).
As the project progressed, I was able to expand my
team to five engineers. Additionally, former Fendt
engineers participated in the project as consultants. Full
of enthusiasm, we developed completely new technology. The project was carried out under utmost secrecy.
And it was risky, since Fendt was also developing a
powershift transmission for the 500 and 800 ranges
8
together with a supplier at that time. The supplier’s
engineers came and went at Fendt and we had to make
sure that our Vario sketches and schematics were
hidden. But they did not suspect a thing. We worked on
the transmission under full power and, naturally, we had
to cope with some set-backs during our nine-year
development work.”
The first field tests were carried out under the
strictest confidentiality
The surprising thing about the project was surely that
the professional world did not get wind of the project
over all those years. Everyone that worked on the
project kept the secret. As a suitable site for field tests,
we chose a cooperative in the town where I was born in
the Czech Republic – near the Polish border. There we
were able to work undisturbed with our Vario, disguised
as a Favorit 800. When we finally drove to the first field
test, we were extremely excited. What will happen? Will
the Vario transmission fulfil our expectations? And our
development worked – a feeling that cannot
be described. We recognised that this was an important
milestone for the future of Fendt and for tractor
development. The fuel consumption was lower than
with powershift transmissions and the area coverage
was clearly higher. These times were absolutely exciting
and also drained our strength. There were times when
we slept very little and our thoughts only circled around
the project. Even during our holidays, two colleagues
and I travelled to the Czech Republic with our families
and took turns driving the Vario in three shifts. The team
grew together, we became close friends and the
enthusiasm for the functionality drove us on.”
New challenges
“As we had already progressed quite far, we once again
stood before immense challenges. We completely
discarded the control and operating system and
redesigned it entirely at the end of 1994. Operation
should be made as easy as possible for customers. We
designed a large number of driving levers and worked
out different operating concepts. At the end, we found
that a joystick was the right operating concept
for customers. On the management level at Fendt, the
decision was made to increase performance by 30 hp to
260 hp and implement the Vario transmission in the top
model of the 900 range. That was not easy, since we had
based our development on 230 hp until then.”
The premiere: AGRITECHNICA 1995
“Then in 1995, we dropped the bomb: we launched the
926 Vario at the Agritechnica in Hanover. The
professional world had no idea, we surprised everybody. Several visitors and also our competitors crawled
under the Vario to check if we really had installed a
stepless drive train. Each day of the Agritechnica, from
morning until evening, I stood in front of a display
board that illustrated the schematics of the transmission and explained the functional principle of the
Vario, repeatedly, like a broken record, but very proudly.
After the Agritechnica, I travelled to many conferences
and lectures in Germany and
abroad. Many experienced
transmission developers were
extremely sceptical and only
shook
their
heads.
Nobody believed in the high
efficiency of our transmission.”
The breakthrough for Vario
“Today there are no more
doubts about our continuously variable transmission.
Vario has fully established itself and numerous neutral
tests, for example those of the German Agricultural
Society (DLG), have proven the exceptional
efficiency and performance of our transmission. Fendt
stands for 100 percent Vario today and has driven the
development ahead consistently. Today all Fendt
tractors are equipped with the continuously variable
transmission. Even after 100,000 Vario transmissions
have been manufactured, the basic principle remains
the same, which means that we can offer a very high
degree of reliability. We placed our bets on the right
card at that time and with Vario, we offer the right
solution for the requirements of today’s farmers.
For me, personally, the development of the Vario
transmission has been the highlight of my career. I am
very proud of it and this feeling will remain for the rest
of my life.”
Marktoberdorf, 20. October 2009

Ingeniously simple – simply ingenious
Inside the Varios, technology enables the
lead in efficiency and performance. Drivers
immediately sense the exceptional driving
comfort and the ingeniously simple operation. Laborious shifting is a thing of the
past. All that is required is a hand movement and the Vario starts driving at the
optimum speed, continuously variable from
20 metres per hour to 60 km/h. The result:
driving pleasure that is profitable.
Expertise for your success
Many years of experience in the development
and production of tractors are gathered in a
Fendt Vario. For about 80 years tractors have
been developed 100 percent in-house at Fendt
and manufactured according to the latest
production methods. As the pioneer of the
continuously variable transmission, Fendt has
been producing the Vario technology in series
for 14 years. Every Fendt customer can count on
the expertise and reliability of the premium
Fendt brand.
The easiest operation in the world
The operating concept in the Vario is simply
ingenious and is also intuitive to use. The control console, joystick and on-board electronics
are perfectly matched to each other, so that you
have everything in control with your right hand.
At the same time, practical automated functions, such as the Tractor Management System
TMS, cruise control, or the automatic maximum
output control not only make work easier, but
also clearly more effective.
10
Welcome at home
Whether narrow track tractor or high-horsepower tractor – you will feel good in the clutterfree cab of a Vario. The well-thought out ergonomics in the premium class workplace allow
you to sit in an ideal working position; you stay
relaxed, even after many hours of work.
Optimised sight lines permit best visibility in all
directions. The modular suspension concept
ensures that you’ll feel so comfortable in the
driver station of the pleasantly quiet cab that
you almost won’t want to leave it.
11
Perfection as a unit
The continuously variable Vario transmission
alone does not yet make a Fendt Vario what it is
today. In a Vario, all components – from the
drive to the engine, the controls to the hydraulics as well as the incomparable driving comfort
– are each individually optimised and fused into
a perfect unit. Fendt Vario means forward-looking high-tech that is easy to operate.
Experience the Vario advantages –
in the field, on the road and at the filling station
The secret to successful economical
operations
Fendt makes no compromises when it comes to
this topic, because the objective is to be the
profitability leader for costs per hour. With a
share of up to 60 percent, fuel costs are the
largest cost factor over the entire service life of
a tractor. These costs are therefore almost twice
as high as the actual tractor purchase price. If,
for example, five litres of fuel can be saved per
operating hour, that amounts to up to 50,000
euros, depending on fuel prices, of the overall
costs during the service life of the tractor. The
cost of fuel is therefore the decisive factor for
cost leadership. Numerous neutral tests confirm
the extremely low fuel consumption of the
Fendt Varios.
Superior productivity – not all continuously
variable drives are equal
The Fendt Vario technology enables the engine
to be operated at an economical optimum
every time it is used. With continuously variable
speed adaptation, you can automatically utilise

Leader for return on investment
When deciding to invest in a tractor, it is not the purchase price that is
important, but rather the overall costs and the operating costs per hour.
These include fuel consumption, which is the single greatest factor
amounting to over 60% of costs, write-off, including resale value,
servicing, repairs and miscellaneous costs such as insurance or housing.

200 Vario –
compact can be so big
Spacious work place for the highest demands
The cab on the 200 Vario offers an unprecedented amount of legroom, since there is no
transmission tunnel. The centralised operating unit on the right-hand side, which integrates
all the working and operating functions, and the height and tilt adjustable steering wheel, set
new standards regarding operating ergonomics. Annoying gearshift or operating levers in the
foot area are a thing of the past.
Easy to operate and everything in view
The new ergonomically placed VarioStick integrates them all in one: a main gear shift lever,
range lever and crawler gear lever. Drivers can make all the important settings, such as for
engine speed, cruise control speed, TMS or 4WD and differential lock automatic mode, using
the control panel on the right-hand console. The multi-display on the dashboard shows all the
information, including fuel consumption, so that drivers have everything in view.
With the 200 Vario, Fendt offers a new dimension in compactness, productivity and efficiency. Now you can also profit from the superior
Vario technology in the power segment from
70 to 110 hp maximum power. The Fendt 200
Vario, the first compact standard tractor with a
continuously variable transmission, has plenty
of power for all jobs in mixed operations.
Thanks to the comprehensive tyre concept, the
200 Vario is also ideal for maintenance work.
Drivers find plenty of room in the new spacious
cab. High profitability, modern equipment and
easiest operation are the decisive strengths of
the compact tractor. With a brand new design,
the 200 Vario offers you a unique driving
sensation and comfort as never before.

The operating concept is an ideal
symbiosis between state-of-the-art
technology and ease of operation.
In the Vario 300 cab, all control elements are concentrated on the steering
column unit and the right-hand side
console. This allows you to focus on the
essentials, whether you are driving on
the road or working in the field. There is
also a comfortable fold-down passenger

Fendt 400 Vario –
the compact class with all the comfort
All the control elements in the cab of
the 400 Vario are grouped logically and
arranged ergonomically so that you can
concentrate on the essentials while driving on the road or working in the field.
Instead of the standard mechanical
cab suspension, an optional pneumatic
suspension is available for absolute
comfort.
Electrical valves: first-rate working and
operating comfort
The joystick and the crossgate lever control the electric proportional
valves. These are all double-acting control units, which can also be used
in a single-acting capacity, and feature a floating position. The controls
for the first two valves are located on the convenient crossgate lever.
Setting the valve functions with the Varioterminal is simple. Using the
rotary control and function keys, you can easily and precisely control the
flow rates and actuation times of all electric proportional valves, set valve
priority or activate external actuation for a valve.

With the 400 Vario, Fendt offers the perfect
all-round tractor for mixed and grassland farms.
Light, compact and exceptionally manoeuvrable, it represents the award-winning Vario
stepless drive technology in the medium power
sector between max. 115 and 155 hp.
It already has electrical proportional valves as
standard. Optionally, it can also be equipped
with all the TMS and VariotronicTI technology,
which was until now reserved for the upper
mid-sized class and high horsepower tractors.
With a broad operating spectrum, the 400 Vario
maximises utilisation in agricultural contracting
businesses or cooperatives – without compromises. Its particular strength lies in PTO operations. Moreover, its exceptional manoeuvrability
is a special benefit.

Fendt 700 Vario –
a league of its own in the upper mid-sized class
A premium class workplace
The more comfortable a working position is, the better the driver can attend to the
implements. For this reason, the 700 Vario is equipped with a height and tilt-adjustable
steering column. The original Fendt seat allows perfect adaptation to virtually all height
requirements and is standard with air suspension. Air-conditioning is also standard on the
700 Vario.
All the tractor operating elements are arranged logically on the right-hand side. The
joystick, crossgate lever for operating two hydraulic valves, the speed memory keys and
the setting selections for the optional TMS are integrated in the armrest. Integrated in the
side control console are the EPC and PTO controls and various engagement keys.
In front of them, always in good view of the driver, is the Varioterminal, with which all fine
settings to the hydraulics and transmission can be made. The instrument cluster in the
steering column displays operating statuses, such as engine temperature, fuel supply and
speeds.
Tyre options for every need
The 700 Vario can accommodate the row crop tyres 270/95 R38 front and 300/95 R52
rear, so that there is plenty of ground clearance for plant protection measures – even in
specialty crops.
For minimum pressure on the ground, tyres up to 600/60 R28 front and 710/60 R38 rear
are possible on the 700 Vario (712 -716 Vario; for 718 Vario 600/60 R30 front and 710/60
R42 rear). That guarantees the lowest possible pressure on the ground.
Since it was launched in 1998, the Fendt 700
Vario has become the most sold tractor range
with continuously variable drive technology.
Now in its third generation, the performance of
the basic vehicle has been enhanced and the
model range has been expanded upwards with
the 718 Vario. The all-rounder is available with a
maximum power output of 130 to 180 hp. The
lift capacity of the rear power lift has been
boosted in all models and axle load has been
increased to provide enough payload reserves
for the most modern implements. Furthermore,
all 700 Varios can accommodate 42” tyres on
the rear axle.
Whether for heavy-duty traction work on
mid-sized mixed farms, row crop operations on
larger farms, or in cooperatives – the 700 is the
top choice.

Fendt 818/820 Vario –
the compact high horsepower tractor
Premium workplace with a wealth of standard equipment
Ever-increasing working hours at a stretch and higher tractor utilisation require optimum working conditions to
aid in protecting the driver’s health and combating fatigue. The workplace on the 800 Vario offers well-thought
out functionality and maximum ergonomics, so that you stay fit on long work days. To make your work easier, the
800 Vario is already standard-equipped with an air-conditioning system, TMS tractor management system and
VariotronicTI headland management system.
For heavy-duty traction work, the 800 Vario has
many ballasting options. The rear axle can accommodate up to four rim weights with 300 kg each.
The pneumatic cab suspension has air spring dampers on
the rear bearing. These feature automatic levelling, which
adjusts the suspension to varying loads.
External actuation for the lifting gear, rear PTO speed
selector and one hydraulic control unit are standard on
the 800 Vario. Mount rear implements easily and save
yourself unnecessary steps, for example, when filling
the slurry tank.
Since they were launched, the Fendt 818/820
models have become the most sold compact
high-horsepower tractors in Europe. The
performance of high horsepower tractors has
been ingeniously combined with the manoeuvrability and visibility of a mid-sized tractor.
With the top model, the 820 Vario, Fendt fulfils
customer requests and now offers a model with

Since the première of the legendary 926 Vario
in 1995, the Vario 900 range has been a symbol
for ground-breaking innovative power in highhorsepower tractor design and is the most successful high-horsepower tractor range in
Europe today. Today, farmers and agricultural
contractors alike are confronted with growing
field sizes, disproportionately increasing transport distances and rising cost pressures.
Fendt has the right answer to the challenges of
the future: the 900 Vario high-horsepower tractor range. The 900 Vario offers powerful, time-
saving and cost-oriented technological solutions for field and road applications, all in one
package. To allow optimum transmission of its
tremendous power, it has been designed to
accept new tyre sizes and custom ballasting.
Fendt offers the completely new certified
immobiliser system “Key Control” for the 900
Vario range. Also new for this range is an automatic steering axle lock. The self-steering axle is
locked at a predefined speed and when
reversing.

Fendt sets standards
... “The engine was very powerful during
field operations, even at 1500 - 1600 rpm [...]
When ploughing, the Vario sucked less diesel
out of the tank per hectare than the other
test candidates.”
... “The Vario transmission is mature [...]
When the tractor reaches the desired speed,
the TMS reduces engine speed directly, if
the load permits – that saves diesel. Fendt
performed the best in the test.”

Value retention through future-proofing
and quality
The retention of the value of all Fendt tractors is
an important cornerstone of the economic
advantages of working with a high-tech product. A Fendt Vario has forward-looking technology that is often first found on the market
years later. Think of the trends that Fendt has
successfully established, such as Vario or the
Variotronic control terminal. Furthermore, a
Fendt is always fully equipped.
Fascination on wheels
The fascination of a Fendt lies beyond pure
measured values. Because a Fendt has a real,
finely tuned chassis. The unique Fendt reactive
steering system guarantees a driving sensation
comparable to that of automobiles. Furthermore, the front axle and integrated cab suspension, the driving stability and also the braking
safety are optimally adapted to each other. This
all makes driving fun every day.

results in the measurements as well as the practical
evaluation. The system with the independent wheel
suspension on the front axle and the three-point cab
suspension is very well adapted to each other. There is
hardly any lateral roll and one always has a safe feeling.”
Profi comparison test of suspension systems 12/09
Fendt: holds its value and has an
excellent transmission
“Fendt customers are especially satisfied with their tractor. They
gave their tractors a final rating of 1.7 [...] This scenario continued in
the question as to whether or not they would purchase their tractors
again: 88 % of Fendt customers would buy their tractor again and
almost all would continue to remain loyal to the brand in the future.”
top agrar tractor survey 11/12 2008
Experience the pleasure of driving
The fascination and the added-value of a Fendt
is best experienced in practical operation. Only
your judgement counts, and in the past this
judgement has led to over 100,000 Varios in
operation worldwide. Those who have experienced this technology in practice with all its
advantages, never wants to return to a power
shift tractor, however comfortable it may be.
Take some time, compare the technology and
profitability in detail, because then you will
discover the true added value of a Fendt.

The new Fendt Variotronic –
a step ahead through innovation
For the new 800 Vario, Fendt offers a completely newly developed Varioterminal in two versions and sizes, which have the same operating logic:
7” Varioterminal
With a screen diagonal of seven inches, the 7” Varioterminal is the handy and functional companion for
tractor operations and Variotronic implement control.
The status display for the most important tractor
information is always visible, so that you always have
everything in view.
10.4” Varioterminal
The 10.4” Varioterminal fulfils all operator wishes. In addition to the tractor
and Variotronic implement controls, now the external cameras, the new
Fendt VarioGuide automatic steering system and the VarioDoc documentation
system can be controlled with just one terminal.
The large screen with a 10.4 inch (26.4 cm) screen diagonal, guarantees easy
recognition of up to four viewable application areas. A full screen mode is also
available for map view, camera images and the ISOBUS implement control.
1
Key or touch control?
The menu settings in the terminals, both the
7” Varioterminal and the 10.4” Varioterminal,
can be adjusted conveniently using only the
touch-sensitive screen.
Both terminals also have navigation keys.
You can navigate through the menus using
either the keys or the touchscreen. The tractor controls on both terminals are identical.
Fendt presents a completely newly developed,
ground-breaking electronics concept:
the Fendt Variotronic. The new Varioterminals –
the 7” Varioterminal and the large 10.4” Varioterminal – are optimally adapted to the Vario
and offer unprecedented functionality and
comfort. Fully integrated in the control concept,
the new Varioterminal unites all functions in
one. Thus, for the first time, tractor and implement control as well as all other functions, such
as documentation or automatic steering,
requires only one terminal in the tractor.
The 7” Varioterminal and the large 10.4” Varioterminal offer a convincing user-friendly interface with a flat menu hierarchy and practical
operation.
The entire Variotronic concept was 100%
developed in-house at Fendt and tailored to
customers’ needs. The components of the Varioterminal are also manufactured according to
the motto “Made in Germany”, so that you can
be sure you are getting high quality, reliable
electronics with the best workmanship.

Variotronic TI headland management
The new Variotronic TI headland management allows operators to create turning
manoeuvres very easily, while the tractor
is standing or driving, and then saves them
for the specific implement. The entire
operating sequence is shown along with
the corresponding triggers and values, such
as the seconds or the distance to the next
step, which makes it easy for operators to
understand the procedure. Individual steps
in the operating sequence can be edited at
a later time.
Variotronic Implement Control
All ISOBUS implements can be controlled using touch technology.
Moreover, the joystick can be assigned with functions as you like,
so that you can choose between touch or joystick control. Up to
12 functions can be controlled at the same time.
VarioGuide automatic steering system
When using VarioGuide, operators can concentrate fully on the implements, since they are not
occupied with steering the tractor. This increases operator performance and has a positive effect
on the overall working quality.
Easy documentation with VarioDoc or VarioDoc Pro
VarioDoc ensures efficient job management for your business. The basic version is included
in the 10.4” Varioterminal as standard. The enhanced version, VarioDoc Pro, also offers
recording of position data via GPS, including tractor parameters, and data transfer via
mobile network. Operators can also choose between automated data recording and job
management. It is controlled using the VarioDoc menu in the Varioterminal. All data are
displayed concisely and easy to understand.
*40#64*40
DPNQMJBOU
implement control
In the new Varioterminal, you can define individual settings for each ISO 11783 compliant
implement, as well as for several operators, and
save them under a custom name. Once configured, each individual setting can be loaded
very easily and edited, if required. An additional
terminal, which can obstruct your view and run
up extra costs, is not necessary.
Variotronic TI headland management
The Variotronic TI headland management is fully
integrated in the Varioterminal and is shown
clearly laid out in the display. With just a touch
of a button, operators can activate automated
operating sequences at the headlands. To optimise the progression of the steps, they can be
edited and adjusted individually. That saves you
time at the headlands and prevents possible
operating errors on long work days.

VarioGuide: the accuracy you need
The new VarioGuide automatic steering system,
developed by Fendt, guarantees maximum reliability thanks to new satellite technology. This
means relaxed working conditions over longer
periods of time, whether by day or night. It
allows you to concentrate fully on the implement. Even when visibility is poor, precise driving is no a problem. Overall that means shorter
working times and lower consumption of fuel
and crop inputs, such as seeds or pesticides.
39
VarioDoc: everything documented
Documentation is the most important basis for
economic analyses in agricultural businesses
today. The legal and social requirements for
recording data are also growing ever more.
With the new VarioDoc, this data can be
recorded with a minimum of effort and time,
documented in the field record and analysed.

New standards in harvesting equipment –
Fendt rotary combine
The rotor on the Fendt R-series can be divided into four sections: intake, threshing, cleaning and
discharging. These segments are perfectly adapted to each other and ensure gentle threshing as
well as seamless processing of the crop in the combine.
Intake
The newly designed intake system of the rotor reduces
crop damage to a minimum. The reason for this is the
wide intake auger with spiral-shaped vanes, which
constantly feed the crop to the rotor and distribute it
uniformly in the threshing area. Stones and other debris
are caught in a rock trap under the intake auger.
Cleaning
With 535 m2 the cleaning system on the Fendt
R-series is highly efficient. The extremely powerful cross flow fan ensures uniform wind flow and
constant pressure in the cleaning system.
Threshing and separating
The threshing concave, which can be adjusted from the
comfort of the cab. It has an overall area of 1.75 m²
and nine exchangeable, screw-mounted concave
sections. The large rotor guarantees uniform crop flow
and the best straw quality. The threshing elements are
coated with tungsten carbide and the working side is
chrome-plated. This guarantees a long service life.
Discharge
No extra discharge rotor is required for ejecting the straw, which saves fuel. The straw is
either laid down in an even swath or chopped
and distributed evenly over the entire working
width.
Fendt sets new standards in harvesting
technology with the new rotary combine.
The high performance combine was presented in operation for the first time at the
Fendt Field Day 2008 in Wadenbrunn – the
audience was impressed. The first customers are convinced by the design concept.
The secret to success is the 800 mm diameter rotor with a length of 3.55 m. Featuring
the world’s largest rotor, new dimensions in
threshing capacity and straw quality have
been attained.
Fendt R-series – a new era in harvesting
The rotary combine leaves no wishes open. The
four segments, intake, threshing, separating
and discharge are equipped with technology
that brings you forward: The tried and proven
PowerFlow table works efficiently over a width
of 9.20 metres. At the heart of the rotary combine is a large rotor measuring 800 mm in
diameter and 3.55 m in length, which ensures
optimum crop throughput. The hydrostatically
driven rotor significantly increases efficiency,

HyPerforma threshing and separating system
With the new HyPerforma threshing and separating system, you can profit from the advantages of two tried and
tested systems. Efficient and gentle threshing occurs in the three-drum threshing system. The crop is fed to the rotors through a tapered feed channel, gently, swiftly and without breakage. Then, once in the two 475 mm diameter
rotors, the crop is separated gently and highly efficiently without resistance, which makes the process especially fuel
efficient.
Ideal cleaning with the Venturi system
Two fans for efficient intake of air
from outside and inside.
The Venturi system is based on a simple
principle of physics. Additional air is pulled
in through the Venturi intake opening on the
drum fan and added to the air flow.

Fendt square balers –
high performance with absolute reliability
The 2.26 m wide pickup takes up even the widest swaths without a problem. This results in a
high throughput capacity from the very beginning.
Maintenance after work has been finished ensures care-free operation the next day. The innovative lighting concept, allows you to clearly see all the lubrication points at dusk or in the darkness
of night.
Since they were launched in Germany in
2002, the Fendt square balers have enjoyed
an excellent reputation for their rugged
and durable design as well as their high
throughput capacity. When developing the
next generation, the focus was on further
improving these positive properties,
optimising operation and simplifying maintenance. A new series has been developed
that unites all of these requirements and is
also exceptionally well adapted to the Vario
tractors in terms of their design and technical specifications.
Throughput and baling density
optimised further
The newly developed pickup suspension has
been realised by means of a torsion rod.
Together with four intake augers, this ensures
optimum crop flow from the very start. By
lengthening the piston stroke and increasing
the number of piston strokes to 46 strokes per
minute, the amount of crop per bale and the
throughput capacity have been increased
further. The high bale density clearly reduces
the number of bales per hectare, which cuts
costs considerably.

Responsibility for the environment –
the Marktoberdorf location
An important step towards bio-energy:
Fendt heats the complete works with CO2-neutral district heating, supplied by the fodder drying plant in Ruderatshofen near Marktoberdorf.
Recognising our responsibility to act as a
good corporate citizen
Sustainability and quality have had a high
priority at Fendt for many decades. We work on
optimising procedures and processes daily in
many different areas. Integral environment and
quality management ensures constant improvement and the implementation of
measures for protecting the environment in our
production process. For example, the entire
works are heated with CO2 neutral district
heating from a nearby fodder drying plant. This
saves 1.75 million litres of heating oil and reduces annual CO2 emissions by some five million
kilogrammes. The new manufacturing hall has
been designed according to the latest knowledge regarding environmental compatibility
and is exclusively supplied by regenerative
energy. Fendt employees achieve record performance every day. Promoting health is therefore an important task for the company.
Programmes for back exercises, immunisations
or workshops for working safety are a part of
the daily work of Fendt employees.

The Fendt products speak for themselves
Fendt has succeeded in developing a family of
tractors that have very low fuel consumption
values. Together 100,000 Vario tractors can save
quite a bit: If, for example, 100,000 Varios are in
use for an average of 800 operating hours a
year and each saves on average three litres per
hour, the total comes to an amazing 240 million
litres less fuel consumed per year – a fantastic
result.
63
Diesel main filter
Diesel pre-filter
Further innovations, such as the 820 Variogreentec,
a rapeseed oil powered tractor, show that Fendt
is breaking new ground in protecting the environment. On the new 800 Vario, not only the
fuel consumption has been further optimised. It
also features SCR technology, which, with the
aid of exhaust after-treatment with AdBlue,
converts nitrogen oxides NOx into non-toxic
water and nitrogen. Profitability and environmental-friendliness are perfectly combined in
Fendt products.

Research and development –
our expertise
At the Fendt manufacturing facilities, ideas,
know-how and commitment are what count.
Marktoberdorf is the centre of the tractor business. The Bäumenheim plant manufactures the
Fendt comfort cab and body parts.
Starting from the very first ideas for a new
Fendt innovation to series production, employees are driven by tight deadlines, endless testing and the will to perfection. Because at Fendt,
the objective is to be the standard to which all
the competitors must measure themselves.
With innovative, intelligent Vario controls and
stepless drive technology, Fendt is a pioneer in
the industry. To secure and further expand this
position, AGCO has invested more than ever in
research and development at the innovative
Fendt location. Fendt will therefore continue to
be a manufacturer of cutting edge agricultural
equipment in the future.
Pioneering technology has accompanied Fendt
for more than 80 years. In 1930, the first Dieselross impressively featured separate driving and
64
mowing drives. Over the years, developments
such as the Fendt control hydraulics, turboclutch, 50 km/h top speed, cab and front axle
suspension all caused a sensation. The most
important development to this day is the revolutionary stepless Vario technology, which was
introduced in 1995. Fendt Vario tractors are
characterized by maximum operating comfort
provided by the Variotronic, which features
joystick control and the Varioterminal.
Through structural changes in agriculture,
drivers’ comfort has developed into an impor65
tant economic factor. That is why at Fendt, we
have focussed special attention on this aspect.
In the most recent ranges, the Vario technology
has been further developed and the intelligent
VarioTMS Tractor Management System has been
integrated. The Headland Management System
VariotronicTI simplifies complex operating
procedures. In the ultra-modern testing and
research centre in Marktoberdorf over 300
highly-qualified engineers are at work on the
leading technical edge for Fendt products.
From tough testing to top quality
It is a long way from the original design idea to
series production: The Fendt tractors first undergo many thousand operating hours of the
hardest tests under the toughest conditions.
After different test operations all over the world,
the product is continually modified and improved. What does all this have to do with quality? The answer is simple: The more thoroughly
the tractors are tested, the better the Fendt is
that later leaves the assembly line in series production. That gives you the assurance to count
on the Fendt long-life quality to ensure profits
for your business now and in the future.
One of the most important assemblies of a tractor is its transmission. Our test rig can simulate
all tractor operating conditions; the computer
delivers test logs about the specific features of a
new transmission design within a short amount
of time. All Vario transmissions are thoroughly
tested in-house at Fendt.
Top quality and long-lasting value have characterised the excellent reputation of Fendt tractors at home and abroad over the past decades.
A large part is contributed to work with the
66
most modern management methods. In 1995,
the Southern German TÜV awarded Fendt certification according to ISO 9001 for its integrated
Fendt Quality Management System. The certification is now considered to be the most successful quality management system worldwide.
Fendt is tested in regular intervals according to
the latest specifications for certification.
Through our direct contact with farming, and
therefore nature, we have always kept an eye
on our responsibility to the environment when
making corporate decisions. In March 2000, the
67
Southern German TÜV awarded AGCO/Fendt
environmental certification according to ISO
14001, which is internationally regarded as
recognition for good environmental management. Auditing is carried out at the
manufacturing facilities in Marktoberdorf
and Bäumenheim at regular intervals.
Manufacturing with experience and precision
Transmission manufacturing and assembly are
the most important core competencies of
Fendt. Our objective is to offer Fendt customers
technologically leading products of high quality that speak for themselves through best
performance, long service life and overall
economy. The utilisation of the latest in manufacturing technology and an order-related
production system, together with awardwinning Fendt quality management, ensures
a high level of quality for our products. All
tractors and municipal vehicles are custom
assembled according to individual customer
specifications. For every Fendt tractor that is
manufactured, there is a concrete job order
according to the customer’s special wishes.
The AGCO/Fendt plants in Germany are among
the best manufacturing facilities in the tractor
industry with highly flexible operating and
working times. As part of the “Fendt ahead”
project, Fendt has become the most efficient
tractor factory in the world and takes the top
position for productivity. The first milestone was
the construction of a new 11,400 sqm assembly
68
hall, in which production is carried out today
according to highly efficient processes. Further
expansion of the works is planned. To manufacture the technologically sophisticated Vario
transmission, many flexible computer-controlled machining centres, which work around the
clock, have been put into operation over the
past years. Using these machining centres,
transmission parts, for example, requiring up to
100 milling and drilling operations can be completed with the component held in one fixture.
Decisive for high product quality are structured
69
procedures: Manufacturing and assembly are
organised according to modern production
principles such as Just In Time and Just In Sequence. Several thousand parts and assemblies
are directly delivered in the specified sequence
for the production of up to 75 Fendt tractors
daily, some just a few hours before they are installed. This holds true for our own production
as well as for some 350 parts suppliers worldwide. With the AGCO APS production system,
the processes are optimised using the latest
methods, such as 6S.
Together we are strong
Fendt employees – the key to success
It is people who make a company what it is. The
team of employees at AGCO/Fendt is the driving force behind the success of the Fendt
brand.
Currently the workforce at the Fendt manufacturing facilities totals more than 3,000 employees. The success of the brand - from the beginnings in the 1930s up to the high-tech brand in
the AGCO Corporation, was only possible
through the diligence of the employees and
their identification with the products.
High quality, top technology and first-class
service require a highly-skilled and motivated
workforce in all areas and departments.
That is why at Fendt state-of-the-art production
technology is paired with the teamwork principle. Team members work independently in capable groups and are personally responsible for
their field of activity and through their knowledge, which they intensify by attending internal
and external training programmes, contribute
their suggestions for improvement. This system
permits quality as well as productivity to be increased continually.
70
Lean corporate structures with flat hierarchies
allow fast and flexible decision-making. An indicator for the motivation and commitment of
Fendt employees is the number of suggestions
for improvement, which are made in great
numbers at Fendt. For trainees there are many
opportunities in business and technical areas.
In an innovative high-tech company there are
interesting jobs, high-quality training and good
perspectives for the future.

Successful sales are based on a powerful dealer
network that offers customers highly effective
sales consultation and support as well as subsequent servicing of the tractor.
In Southern Germany, Fendt works exclusively
with cooperatives. In Central and Northern
Germany, the Fendt dealer network comprises a
combination of cooperatives and competent
private dealers.
Fendt’s goal for the future is to strengthen the
dealer network further to allow growth objectives to be attained.

In the traditional export markets in Western Europe and in Central Europe, Fendt was able to
increase sales in the past year with the aid of
the AGCO distribution network. Also in the
world markets Australia and North America. In
the up-and-coming farming countries in Eastern Europe, work on establishing a comprehensive dealer network is currently in progress.
These regions have enormous expansion
potential, which AGCO also wishes to tap into
with the Fendt brand.
