Our Lady of Zapopan
On December 8th, 1541, the Franciscan Fray Antonio de
Segovia gave a small image of Our Lady of the Immaculate
Conception to the natives of Zapopan in what is today
southern Mexico. This small statue has the honor of being
the first image of the Virgin Mary venerated in the State of
Jalisco, and held in special regard by the natives of the region, strengthening the Catholic faith.
Nuestra Señora de Zapopan
This Sunday the image of Our Lady of Zapopan will travel from
Saints Peter and Paul parish in Green Bay to St. Therese in Appleton …making a brief stop in Kaukauna and Little Chute. Special Masses and devotions are scheduled for the three days that
the image will be here in our parish. Know that all are invited to
share in these prayers and celebrations. May our Blessed Mother
intercede for all our parish members and families.
El 8 de diciembre de 1541, Fray Antonio de Segovia
donó una imagen pequeña de la Inmaculada Concepción a los indios de Zapopan, en el sur de México. La
imagen pequeña tiene el honor de ser la primera de la
Virgen María a ser venerada en el Estado de Jalisco, y
tener alta estima por parte de los indios de la región,
fortaleciendo su fe católica.
En 1653 el Obispo de Guadalajara declaró la imagen de ser
“milagrosa” y puso la fecha del 18 de diciembre para la celebración anual de la Fiesta de Nuestra Señora de la Expectación de Zapopan. En los años 1700’s Ntra. Señora de
Zapopan fue declarada Patrona de Guadalajara, específicamente “contra tempestades, rayos y plagas.” Por esta razón la
imagen de Nuestra Señora sale del santuario el trece de junio
y durante la temporada de lluvia, hasta el 4 de octubre, visita
los templos en cada barrio de Guadalajara.
Este domingo la imagen de Ntra. Señora de Zapopan va a
viaje de Santos Pedro y Pablo en Green Bay hacia Sta. Teresita en Appleton …haciendo una parada en Kaukauna y Little
Chute. Misas especiales y devociones están fijado para los
tres días de esta visita en nuestra parroquia. Sepan que están
invitados a participar en estas oraciones y celebraciones. Que
nuestra Madre Santísima interceda por nuestra parroquia,
por todas nuestras familias.

In 1653 the Bishop of Guadalajara declared the image to be
“miraculous” and appointed the 18th of December as the annual
celebration of the Feast of Our Lady of the Expectation of
Zapopan. In the 1700’s Our Lady of Zapopan was declared Patroness of Guadalajara, specifically “against storms, lightning and
epidemics.” For this reason Our Lady’s image leaves her sanctuary on the thirteenth of June and all through the rainy season,
until the fourth of October, visits the churches in every barrio of
Guadalajara.

GENEROSIDAD
Las sobras están al final, no lo que recibieron la gente
después que Jesús comió con sus discípulos.
Sobreabundancia es efecto de generosidad, no su
instrumento. ¿Necesitas tiempo para reflexionar sobre eso?
Quiere decir que generosidad no depende en que tienes
mucho. No es generoso dar de lo que sobra. Si das de
escasez, milagrosamente el efecto es siempre
sobreabundancia. ¿Qué merito o virtud hay en dar de lo
que sobra? ¿Cuántas veces nos preocupamos de que habrá
suficiente comida para tanta gente? ….y, al final siempre
hay sobras. Y esto es lo que celebramos en la Eucaristía:
la abundancia de vida que recibimos en el Cuerpo de Cristo,
la Eucaristía, es el resultado de la generosidad de entrega
total de Jesucristo.
Con lo que tienes es suficiente …generosidad lo va a
multiplicar y dar vida. Puede comenzar con compasión,
compañía, una sonrisa, palabras de aliento, dar de tu tiempo,
escuchar al otro. Este pan siempre se multiplica en vida.
** ¿Cómo comparto mi tiempo, talentos, o cosas?
GENEROSITY
The leftovers are at the end, it’s not what the people got
after Jesus and disciples ate. Overabundance is the effect of
generosity, not its instrument. Do you need time to think
about that last sentence? It’s saying that generosity does not
rely on having a lot to give. It is not so generous to give
when you have excess. You can give from scarcity and
amazingly and miraculously, the effect is always overabundance. What merit or virtue is there in giving from what is
left over? How many times have we wondered if there will
be enough food to feed all the folks who have come to the
table, and in the end there are always leftovers. And, this
is what we celebrate in the Eucharist: the abundance of life
that we receive in the Eucharist, the Body of Christ, is the
result of the generosity of the total surrender of Christ.
What you begin with is sufficient … generosity will
multiply it and give it life. It can begin with compassion,
your company, a smile, courage, a word of encouragement,
giving time, and listening to others. This bread always multiplies in life.
