“Travel Light”
“But, what if….?” No, we don’t know what could
happen; but neither do we have to pack for each and every
eventuality. When Our Lord sent out the 72 missionaries
they were told to rely on the hospitality of those they went
out to serve. The important thing was the mission (the
message) and not the creature comforts of home. They
were successful! They came back rejoicing as they rendered an account of their activities to Jesus.
Successful and rejoicing …if only all of us can do the same
when we are called home to God and have to render an account
of ourselves and of our service to mission of the Church.
Within our comfort zones we all feel safe but Jesus is sending
us forth and he says there are wolves out there. How do you
feel about wolves? You can pretend that they are not there; you
can pretend that they aren’t dangerous (they just really want to
be petted), or you can say that anyone who is scared to hang out
with wolves is socially defective. Who are the wolves? …open
attacks on the faith, ridicule of morals, etc. Lord, help us to
be strong and to remain committed to faith and Christian morals.
Mission Statement
How would you describe the “heart and soul” of St. Therese
parish? How would you describe “who we are” and “who we
want to be”? And, can you do this in ten words or less, and
does it translate well into Chuckese and Spanish?
During this past year several of our parishioners have participated in a diocesan program called “Light the Fire”. One of
their tasks was to look at our parish mission statement and see if
it speaks to who we are as a faith community, and does it express our reason for being. This task was then brought to our
V.I.A. group, and this is what we have come up with, and we
invite your comments and suggestions. This is not set in concrete, and it has yet to be translated in Chuukese.
“One Church, many cultures; we pray,
we celebrate, we serve”
Crafting a mission statement takes time and thought, and I
can assure you that a good amount of both, and of ‘tweaking’,
has taken place at our V.I.A. meetings over the past year. Now,
would you like to ‘try your hand at it’? We invite your comments and suggestions, remembering the rule of “ten words or
less”. Feel free to send me an e-mail or drop it off in writing at
the parish office. I hope to give a new mission statement of
‘stamp of approval’ at the parish Annual Meeting, August 21 st .

“Pero, ¿si pasa algo?” No, no sabemos lo que
puede pasar; tampoco tenemos que llevar algo para
cada posible necesidad. Cuando el Señor envió a los
72 misioneros les instruyó a confiar en la hospitalidad
de los que iban a servir. Lo importante fue la misión
(el mensaje) y no las comodidades de la casa.
Tuvieron éxito! Regresaron “llenos de alegría”
mientras contaban a Jesús de sus actividades.
Exitosos y regocijando ….ojalá podamos nosotros estar
igual cuando somos llamados al cielo y tenemos que rendir
cuentas a Dios de nuestras vidas y nuestro servicio a la
misión de la Iglesia. Dentro de nuestras zonas de
comodidad sentimos a salvo, pero Jesús nos envía y nos
dice que allá afuera hay lobos. ¿Cómo te sientes en cuanto
a lobos? Puedes pretender que no existen; puedes pretender
que no son peligrosos (que solo quieren ser acariciados), o
puedes decir que la persona que no quiere tratar con lobos
es un antisocial. ¿Quiénes son los lobos? …ataques abiertos
a la fe, ridiculizar al moral, etc. Señor, ayúdenos a ser
fuertes y mantenernos comprometidos a nuestra fe católica
y el moral cristiano.
Declaración de la Misión
¿Cómo describirías el “corazón y alma” de nuestra
parroquia? ¿Cómo describirías “quienes somos” y “quienes
queremos ser”? Y, ¿puedes hacerlo en diez palabras o
menos?, y a ver si traduce bien al inglés y chuukese.
Durante este año pasado varios miembros de la parroquia
participaron en un programa diocesana titulado “Enciende el
Fuego”. Una de sus tareas fue revisar la “Declaración de la
Misión” de nuestra parroquia y ver si expresa bien quienes
somos como comunidad de fe, y la razón de existir. Luego
esta tarea fue presentado al grupo de V.I.A.; queremos
presentar el resultado e invitar sus comentarios y
sugerencias. Esto no está escrito en concreto, ni puesto en
chuukese.
“Una Iglesia, muchas culturas;
rezamos, celebramos, servimos”
Construyendo una ‘declaración de la mision’ conlleva
mucho tiempo y pensar, y les aseguro que el grupo de
V.I.A. ha invertido ambos durante este año. Ahora, te
gustaría hacer una? …a poner tu mano? Invitamos sus
comentarios y sugerencias, recordando la regla de hacerlo
en ‘diez palabras o menos’. Puedes contactarme por correo
electrónico, o por escrito. Espero ‘dar mi bendición’ a esto
en la Reunión Anual de la parroquia, el 21 de agosto.

Parking Lot Monitors and subs.
