Thank you to all for helping to SAVE LIVES… Please visit the New York Blood Center website at www.nybloodcenter.org if you would like to help us save lives. SEPTEMBER 20, 2015 4 From the Pastor’s Desk… Welcome! Pope Francis We anticipate and will be delighted to see our Holy Father, Pope Francis walking on the streets of New York and hearing his inspirational message of Mercy and love. For many of us it is going to be a life-changing event. As we prepare ourselves to welcome Pope Francis in our midst, we pray that Almighty God keep him safe during his visit to the United States, so that he may have a joyful and successful journey, giving encouragement and hope to us Catholics, to those of all faith, to those who have strayed from faith and to all in the world family. Catechetical Sunday This year, the Church will celebrate Catechetical Sunday, today, September 20, 2015, and will focus on the theme “Safeguarding the Dignity of Every Human Person.” Those whom the community has designated to serve as catechists will be called forth to be commissioned for their ministry at the 10:45 am Mass. Catechetical Sunday is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the role that each person plays, by virtue of Baptism in handing on the faith and being a witness to the Gospel. Catechetical Sunday is an opportunity for all to rededicate themselves to this mission as a community of faith. Here at St. Nick’s I am blessed with wonderful priests, sisters, teachers, catechists, instructors and volunteers who are committed to serve this parish family with their teaching and good example. Let us use the coming year to reflect on how the Bible and in particular the Ten Commandments and the Beatitudes, provide the spiritual and moral foundations for our Christian life. I am grateful to The Light of Christ Prayer Community for conducting a Dinner and Dance for World Peace. It was a nice way of remembering all the victims of 9/11 and praying for them. As we celebrate our Parish Feast, today, Sunday September 20th at 12:00 pm Mass, we pray that following the example of St. Nicholas of Tolentine, our Patron Saint, our parishioners may continue to grow in faith, love and service of God and one another.
