mission church ministered to by our Pastor, Fr. Martin Bourke, with the assistance of Parochial Vicars, Fr. Francisco Cancino, and Fr.

360-336-6622, ext. 23). Fr. Martin, Fr. Peter, and Jamie have their offices at the Immaculate Conception Parish Center located at
215 N. 15th St. in Mount Vernon, Fr. Francisco’s office is at Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish located at 719 Ferry St., SedroWoolley.

From The Pastor’s Desk:
Planet Earth
Going from my memory there is a beautiful Ad on TV of a young girl hugging a tree. Why? It is the tree under which
her parents had met. So the girl is thanking the tree.
Maybe we need to do more of this.
Planet Earth has two types of spin. It makes one rotation around the sun once a year. It also spins on its axis once every
24 hours. But there is more, Planet Earth is wobbling.
Allow me to try and explain. As the earth spins every 24 hours, it is not at a 90degree angle to the sun or perpendicular,
rather Planet Earth is tilted at an approximate 23.5 degree angle to the horizontal of the line of the sun. This tilt changes
between 22.1 degrees and 24.5 degrees every 40,000 years.
Apparently this tilt is essential for life to exist on Planet Earth. It prevents any part of Earth from becoming too warm. In
Winter the tilt of the northern part of Earth is away from the sun and in Summer the tilt is toward the sun.
So what is the problem? The problem is that we humans have changed the climate so that parts of Planet Earth
are heavier on one side than the other causing the wobble to increase. Melting ice sheets in Greenland have
changed the weight distribution on Earth.
You can explain this in terms of the tires on your car. When you get a new set of tires, you also have to re-balance the
wheels. The technician puts little bits of lead on the side of the rims to ensure that the wheel spins in balance, otherwise
there would be a wobble and the car would be un-drivable. The steering wheel would shake violently.
The Daily Herald newspaper (April 10, 2016) from Everett reported a NASA study indicating that Earth’s wobble is
changing.
Are we putting human life at risk? It is time to stop the wobble.

Calendar of Events
Church Improvement Update
We need a volunteer Landscape Architect to assist us in deciding
on options for the grounds around the church. These might include a place for the Roozen bell, the Fatima shrine from Division Street, a rose or other plant garden, outdoor Stations of the
Cross and/or others. We also need families or volunteers to
weed around the various planting areas. They are looking
VERY UNTIDY.
As mentioned by Fr. Martin, more parking is a priority this year.
To expand the parking lot to the South fence would add 54 or 55
spaces. The updated estimate for completing this work is
$163,000 excluding sales tax and other fees. We hope to complete the expanded lot before the Fall rains begin. A large truck
is needed for hauling the trees and shrubs to the recycling area
so the fence along the East and North sides of the property can
be installed.

The Arts and Environment Ministry
Seeks New Members
Parishioners who are willing to give their time and
talent to this important responsibility are encouraged
to join this ministry. Each week this group enhances
the prayerful environment of the church by providing appropriate décor, banners, flowers, and visual props for the celebration
of Mass and the liturgical season. Whether you can serve year
round or prefer to help during specific seasons, assistance with
ideas, assembling materials, decorating and maintenance takes
many hands. A representation of our diverse cultures is encouraged. Please call the Parish Office and leave your name and
contact information; a committee member will return your call.
GOLF FUNDRAISER UPDATE
Thank you to all the golfers who participated in our Golf
Fundraiser. The weather was good to us and we look forward to doing it again next year.
We also want to thank the committee for all their hard
work and many hours dedicated to this event. Special thanks
to Rob and Kara Janicki, Ann Nardo, and the various committees and individuals who donated items for the silent
auction. The food was donated by Mexico Café and cooked
and served by the Farmhouse. Please be sure and patronize
these establishments and thank them, too.
All proceeds from this event benefit our parking lot expansion. When the final numbers are in we will update you.

que vayamos a hacer lo mismo!

Planeta Tierra
Al pensar en mis recuerdos encuentro un hermoso anuncio en la televisión de una niña que abraza un árbol. ¿Por qué? Es el árbol bajo el
cual se habían conocido sus padres. Así que la chica estaba agradeciendo el árbol.
Tal vez tenemos que hacer más detalles como este.
El planeta Tierra tiene dos tipos de giros. hace una rotación alrededor del Sol una vez al año. También gira sobre su eje una vez cada 24
horas. Pero hay más, el Planeta Tierra se tambalea.
Permítanme tratar de explicar. A medida que la Tierra gira cada 24 horas, no está en un ángulo de 90 grados al sol o perpendicular, en lugar
del planeta Tierra está inclinado en un ángulo de 23,5 grados aproximadamente con la línea horizontal del sol. Esta inclinación cambia entre
22,1 grados y 24,5 grados cada 40.000 años.

Actualización de Mejoramiento Iglesia
Necesitamos un diseñador de jardinería voluntario, para ayudarnos a decidir sobre las opciones de los terrenos alrededor de la
iglesia. Estos podrían incluir un lugar para la campana Roozen, el
santuario de Fátima de la escuela, rosas u otras plantas de jardín,
Estaciones de la Cruz al aire libre u otras ideas. También necesitamos familias que adopten un área de los jardines para su limpieza.
Como lo ha mencionado el Padre Martin, hacer más estacionamientos es una prioridad este año. Para ampliar el estacionamiento al lado sur añadirían 54/55 espacios. Hace tres años, la
estimación para completar este trabajo fue de $150.000. Estamos recibiendo una estimación actualizada y esperamos completar el lote ampliado antes de que lleguen las lluvias en el otoño.
Antes de comenzar el trabajo, tenemos que eliminar los grandes
círculos de maderas a la mitad de la valla sur. Se necesita un
gran camión para transportar, junto con ayudantes para cargar
el camión.

esta importante responsabilidad de unirse a este ministerio.
Cada semana este grupo da el ambiente de oración de la iglesia,
con una decoración apropiada, estandartes, flores y accesorios
para la celebración de la misa y el tiempo litúrgico. Usted puede servir todo el año o ayudar solo durante temporadas específicas, ayudar con ideas, materiales de montaje. La decoración
y mantenimiento necesita muchas manos. Se anima para que
exista una representación de nuestras diversas culturas. Por

DVD DE LA DEDICATORIA DE LA IGLESIA
Si desea una copia del DVD de la dedicación de la iglesia del
pasado 11 de noviembre del 2015, la cual celebro el Arzobispo
Pedro Sartain, y que se ha estado exponiendo en el Narthex,
puede reservar su copia, lo que debe hacer es pasar por la oficina y pagar $10.00. El video se puede ver en regulares DVD y
computadoras. Los fondos que se recauden se destinará a reducir la deuda de la iglesia. Se debe pre-pagar el DVD antes de
ser ordenado.

Youth Migrant Project
The YMP is an outreach ministry to the migrant
farm workers. Young people from different churches
come to support the Migrant Project at the
Tri-Parish Food Bank in the Summer time. The
teens work in the food bank, minister to farmworker’s children, and learn about farm worker’s lives.
We welcome the teen from St. Madeline Sophie
from Bellevue, this week July 10th to July 15th.

Our Homeless Mats group will meet this coming
Wednesday evening at 6:30 p.m. after the 6 p.m. Mass in
the social hall. We’ll process plastic bags into usable
mats for the homeless. Supplies needed are plastic bags
from Fred Meyers, Haggens, etc.; scissors or a quilt
cutter; and a Q size crochet hook. If interested come join
us, we’ll teach you the process. We’re going to meet
every other Wednesday on an on-going basis, so join in
whenever you can.
El grupo de personas que hacen cobijas de bolsas de platico para los hombres sin hogar se reunirá el próximo miércoles a las 6:30pm después de la misa de 6 p.m. en el
salón social de San Carlos. Los materiales necesarios son
bolsas de plástico de Fred Meyer, Haggens, etc .; tijeras o
cortador; y una aguja de ganchillo tamaño Q . Si está interesado venga el miércoles 6 de julio y le enseñamos el
proceso . Vamos a reunirnos cada otro miércoles en curso,
para que se una al grupo cuando pueda.
