As we listen to today’s readings…we hear the same common thread repeated over and over…and that commonality is the love that God has for all his children. And very much like God himself, a woman becomes a mother and takes
on God’s way of love…
My greatest thanks is that God didn’t make me a mother…I’m OK with being a father, but when I think of what
motherhood demands it just seems impossible sometimes…
The acts of mother’s for ages have pointed to the truth…that man and woman were made in the image of God…
and the sacrificial nature of mothers for their families… reflects the sacrificial love that God has for his world.
But it’s also said that God has an unusual sense of humor…so many times he doesn’t give children the same perspective on life…Here is a typical outline of what we all think about our moms, at different points in our lives…and I
think most of us fall into this category…
 From 4 to 12 Years Of Age…Mommy can do anything…and knows everything…
 But from 12 to 16 Years Of Age…my Mother? She’s hopelessly old-fashioned…
 And as we turn 18 to 25 we think…mom…that old woman? She’s way out of date
 But once we’re 25 to 35 we change a bit and say…Well, mom might know a little bit about it…
 And at 35 Years Of Age…we say, “Before we decide, let’s get Mom’s opinion”
 And by the time we’re 65 we think, “I only wish I had my mom here…so I could talk it over with her…
The truth is that at some point…we all learn to appreciate our moms and to acknowledge their vital influence in
our lives.
And it’s really overwhelming when we think what and who a mother really is…Mothers are teachers… disciplinarians…and they’re cleaning ladies too…And most mothers understand that…for their kids… baking cookies is more
important than washing windows…
Mothers are nurses-doctors-psychologists-first aid technicians-chauffeurs & coaches. They help us develop our
personalities and vocabularies...they shape our attitudes…and Mothers are that soft voice that says, "I love you." And
mothers are a link to God…a child’s first impression of God’s love.
So for all the mother’s on this Mother’s Day who are with us…and for those who are not…for those who have
laughed…worried…persuaded…cajoled…been concerned for…and who have cried for their children…Happy Mother’s
Day …God loves you…

Living Rosary Devotion
A Catholic Prayer Service for Mary
May, of course, is the month of the Holy Rosary, a great opportunity to introduce young people to the devotion of praying the
Rosary. During May the question often comes up, “How do you pray the living Rosary?” Knights of Columbus will be having
a living Rosary in DiLeo Hall May 13th at 730 PM. On the right hand side of this page you can have a idea on how the living
Rosary is set up. Refreshment will served promptly in DiLeo hall after the service.
A message from our Parochial Vicar, Fr. Sergio Renteria
Thank you so much!!!
Every beginning has an end, and my stay among you between friends and brothers of the Parish of
St. Catherine of Alexandria is coming to an end.
I came from blessed Finis Terrae of Cabo San Lucas, more than a thousand miles from here where
God put me to work for your kingdom and share what I love and that is my priesthood. I learned so
much in so little time and I thank God for this wonderful experience in my priestly ministry. Thanks to
Bishop Gerald Barnes, our pastor Father Anthony, the emeritus pastors, deacons, all our parish
staff, the committed laypeople with a large army working in the vineyard of the Lord and all who in
daily life and every Sunday we come together at the banquet of the Eucharist.
When you come from another country or from another diocese other than our diocese of San Bernardino there are policies to follow according to the pastoral structure and one of them is to have experience in two parishes to work in to continue serving the people of God who live in this portion of
his beloved flock.
I will always carry them in my heart, and especially in my prayers and daily Eucharist in silence and
contemplation of nature, the temple of the glory of God.
I make my own these words of St. John Paul II in his 5th. Aztec pastoral visit to my country: "I'm going but I'm not, I'm going, but I stay heart" (SJPII) Pray for me.....

DO YOU KNOW SOMEONE WHO'S HAD AN ABORTION?
Almost everyone knows someone who’s had an abortion. Many people know someone personally who is suffering because
of an abortion. If a friend confided in you tomorrow that she had an abortion, would you be able to respond in a way that
brings her closer to healing?
There are ways to avoid the mistakes...Ways that may help your friend be hopeful again about her future.
If this is the first time your friend has told you about her abortion, she may be afraid that you will be critical or that you will
repeat to others what she tells you. She must know that you are a real friend who cares about her, and that you are not sitting
in judgment of her.
Before you talk to her, keep in mind: What does she need today?

someone to listen?

a shoulder to cry on?

a referral to a professional counselor,

a priest or minister?

or even crisis intervention?
Listen with your heart
Begin by listening to your friend. Let her pour out the whole story without interrupting her. You don’t have to understand
every detail. It’s important that she lets go of some of the burden she’s been carrying and that she no longer feels alone.
She may talk about:

what happened at the clinic

rage and anger—at the boyfriend, her parents, the clinic personnel, God, herself

guilt, regret, depression, nightmares

using alcohol or drugs to try to forget, and even suicidal thoughts

unbearable grief

being alienated from her boyfriend, family and friends

feeling that she doesn’t deserve to be loved or forgiven

Un mensaje de nuestro Vicario Parroquial, P. Sergio Rentería
Muchas Gracias!!!
He aprendido

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION
The Second Vatican Council decreed that the devotional
life of the Church should be examined and reformed with an
eye towards expressing Easter faith. This encouragement for
creativity has deep roots in our tradition, and some attempts
at reform show great promise. One of the great treasures in
our devotional repertoire is a familiar feature of Lent: the
Way of the Cross. The faithful walk a path recalling the
events of Christ’s passion, a contemplative experience
increasingly enriched these days by scripture and song. There
are fourteen stations in the usual configuration, although in
recent years, a fifteenth station of the Empty Tomb has been
added. Why stop there? Why not develop a similar journey
structured on the theme of the appearances of the Risen
Lord?
Over the last decade, a V ia Lucis, or “Way of Light,” has
developed as a companion to the V ia Crucis. It has been
celebrated at the Vatican and is catching on elsewhere. There
are fourteen stations, beginning with the Women Carrying
Spices to the Tomb, continuing with the familiar appearances
of the Lord at Emmaus, the Upper Room, the shore of Tiberias. The journey ends with stations recalling the apostles’ wait
with Mary for the advent of the Spirit, and with Pentecost.
This is fertile ground indeed for the genius of artists,
musicians, preachers, and liturgists. This is a living example
of how many of our traditions are born to fill a great spiritual
need, and spread to every corner of the Church. It may even
come soon to a church near you. Maybe next Eastertime!
