Situado estratégicamente, el Alcázar es una fortificación sobre rocas, ubicada en la parte más alta de la ciudad. En el siglo II fue un
palacio romano. Alfonso VI y después Alfonso X lo hicieron restaurar. Siglos después, Carlos I encargó su diseño definitivo a Alonso de
Covarrubias, uno de los arquitectos más prestigiosos de la época. Éste dibujó un edificio compacto y cerrado, con un patio rectangular.
Durante la Guerra Civil (1936-1939) fue prácticamente destruido durante el asedio de 70 días que, por parte de las tropas republicanas,
sufrió el general Moscardó. Lo que afianzó al Alcázar como todo un símbolo político e histórico. Durante los años del franquismo fue reconstruido, acabándose las obras en 1970.
En la actualidad, el Alcázar es un imponente edificio con cuatro fachadas, cada una de un estilo artístico diferente. En los últimos años ha
tenido diferentes usos. Academia de Infantería, Museo del Ejército y sede de la actual Biblioteca regional de Castilla-La Mancha. Recientemente se ha inaugurado el museo del Ejército de Tierra, en el que se pueden contemplar las aportaciones militares al progreso institucional, social, científico y cultural de España. Todo ello organizado en 20 salas de exposición permanente.
Miles y miles de turistas visitan todos los años este emblemático lugar que tantos sucesos históricos ha presenciado y, a veces protagonizado a lo largo de su ya larga existencia.
Strategically situated, the Alcázar is a fortification built on
rocks and located at the city’s highest point. In the 2nd century it was a
Roman palace. Alfonso VI and later Alfonso X had it restored. Centuries
later, Carlos I commissioned its definitive design from Alonso de Covarrubias, one of the most prestigious architects of his time. He created a
compact, closed building with a rectangular courtyard.
During the Civil War (1936-1939) it was virtually destroyed during
a 70-day siege inflicted on General Moscardó by the republican troops,
something that reinforced the Alcázar as a political and historic symbol.
During the Franco years it was rebuilt, with the works being completed
in 1970.
The Alcázar is today an imposing building with four facades, each one of
them in a different artistic style. In recent years it has been given different uses: Infantry Academy, Army Museum and current headquarters of the
Regional Castilla-La Mancha Library. It has recently seen the inauguration
of the Army Museum, which displays military contributions to Spain’s institutional, social, scientific and cultural progress. It is all organised in 20
permanent exhibition rooms.
Each year, thousands upon thousands of tourists visit this emblematic
place that has witnessed so many historic events and has sometimes even
taken centre stage in them in the course of its now extensive existence.

Es tan andaluz como el gazpacho, pero más típico de
Córdoba. Su origen se pierde en la inmensidad de los tiempos. Se trata de un plato popular, producto de la inteligencia
innata de un pueblo que sabe combinar ingredientes humildes como son el tomate, el pan, el ajo, el aceite y la sal, y con
ellos elaborar un auténtico manjar.
The salmorejo we know and enjoy today is a cold tomato-based

Los que saben de esto señalan un posible antecedente del salmorejo en la mazamorra (majado de pan, almendras, ajo, aceite
y sal), traída a España por las legiones romanas. Lo cierto es
que el romano Virgilio habla del moretum, un majado campesino que también podría considerarse un precedente del salmorejo, aunque sin tomate, claro, porque este fruto rojo con
“ombligo” lo trajo a Europa Cristobal Colón en 1540.
La primera vez que aparece el término salmorejo, como tal,
es en un recetario en 1737, referido a una salsa para aderezar
el conejo.
Las dos mejores raquetas del mundo se verán las caras otra vez, en Madrid, este verano. Rafa Nadal y Novak Djokovic
pretenden batir el record de asistencia a un partido de tenis al enfrentarse en el césped del Santiago Bernabeu. De momento
el record está en 35.681 personas en un enfrentamiento entre Serena Williams y Kim Clijsters.
El salmorejo que hoy conocemos y disfrutamos es una crema
fría a base de tomate, pan, aceite, ajo y sal que puede ir acompañada de huevo duro y taquitos de jamón. Se sirve también
acompañado de berenjenas rebozadas… ummmmm ¿a que
ya les está apeteciendo uno?
Los organizadores esperan llegar a los 80.000 espectadores y la recaudación se dedicará a los proyectos solidarios de la Fundación Real Madrid y la Fundación Rafa Nadal.
De todos es conocido el archimadridismo de Rafa Nadal, por lo que podría decirse que el campeón español juega en “su casa”,
pero resulta que, curiosamente, aunque el equipo de los amores de Novak Djokovic es el Partizan de Belgrado, el tenista serbio no oculta sus simpatías por el real Madrid, al que asegura que siempre ha admirado y del que posee una camiseta con su
nombre.

does not hide his support for Real Madrid, a team he maintains he has always admired and of which he has a shirt with his name on it.
