We are each called to proclaim the Gospel
to children in ways that empower them to
receive and respond to God’s love, and so eight
months ago we started the 10:00 AM Children’s
Mass.
I did not want Mass to be something the
children dreaded, but rather something they
would appreciate. I wanted the children not just
to attend, but to participate in the celebration of
the Holy Mass. I wanted an engaging Mass that
would teach them about leadership.
Children yearn to be noticed and
recognized as individuals who have an important
place in the church. We must use every tool and
opportunity available to train these young
leaders, to encourage them to serve and allow
them to show us what they can do. Our children
are now lectors, greeters, ushers and choir
members!
Our children have been turning in
envelopes for several years without notice,
listing the talent they used for the week or even
giving money for tithing. We are now going to
take special notice of this each week so they will
know how important this is to the Church.
I am very happy with the growing number
of children participating at Mass. Each week I
receive great feedback from parents and others
about how excited the children are and what a
joy this is for all.
Children are not the future of our church,
they are the church. By giving them the chance
to serve with their peers we are teaching them
they are as important as the teens and adults.
Jesus said “Let the children come to me,
and do not prevent them; for the kingdom of
heaven belongs to such as these.” (Matthew
19:14)

Cada uno de nosotros estamos llamados a
proclamar el Evangelio a los niños de formas que los
habiliten a recibir y responder al amor de Dios, por
esa razón hace ocho meses comenzamos la Misa de
los niños a las 10:00 AM.

Yo no quería que esta Misa fuera algo que los
niños temieran sino algo que ellos apreciaran. Yo
quería que los niños no solo atendieran, sino que
participaran en la celebración de la Santa Misa. Yo
quería una misa atractiva que les enseñara a ellos
acerca de liderazgo.
Los niños anhelan ser reconocidos y tomados
en cuenta como individuos que tienen un lugar en la
iglesia. Nosotros debemos usar todas las
herramientas y oportunidades disponibles para
entrenar estos jóvenes líderes y motivarlos a servir y
permitirles que nos demuestren lo que ellos pueden
hacer. Ellos son ahora lectores, ujieres y miembros
del coro!
Nuestros niños han pasado sus sobres de
contribución por muchos años sin haber sido
advertidos, anotando los talentos que han usado
durante la semana y hasta dando su diezmo.
Nosotros ahora vamos a darle especial atención cada
semana a esta contribución, para que ellos sepan lo
importante que es para la iglesia.
Yo estoy muy feliz con el aumento de la
participación de los niños en la Misa. Cada semana
recibo excelentes comentarios de los padres y otros
acerca de lo entusiasmados que los niños están y la
alegría que ello representa para todos nosotros.
Los niños no son el futuro de la iglesia, ellos
son la iglesia. Brindándoles la oportunidad de servir
con sus compañeros les estamos enseñando a ellos
que son tan importantes como los adolescentes y
adultos.
Jesús dijo “Dejen que los niños se acerquen a
mi y no se los impidan, porque el reino de Dios es de
quienes son como ellos.” (Mateo 19:14)

The requirements necessary to be considered an Active Parishioner are as follows: Donate your Time/Talent by
actively participating in at least one of the ministries listed on the Time and Talent Stewardship form (example:
volunteer in office; sing in choir; mass announcer or lector; extraordinary minister; St. Vincent de Paul; Knights of
Columbus; gift shop volunteer; etc.); Give financially to the church and attend mass on a regular basis.
Parishioners should use their envelopes even when they do not make a monetary donation in order to establish
their presence at Mass on a regular basis. It is very important to establish “Active” status by donating your Time,
Talent and Treasure to ensure that when you need proof to act as a sponsor for baptisms and confirmations, or to
receive the Sacrament of Matrimony or enroll your child in a Catholic school that we are able to confirm that you
are an Active Catholic in Good Standing in order to provide you with the necessary documentation.
Los requisitos necesarios para ser considerado como un feligrés Activo son los siguientes: Donar Tiempo/Talento

We will again be offering up a Novena in honor of Mothers Day to begin April 30th. You may include the
special women in your life who are mothers (your own mother, sister, daughter or a special friend) by filling
out the Mothers Day Novena Pink Envelopes you received with your monthly offertory envelopes. There are
envelopes available in the pews and at the back of church for anyone who does not receive offertory
envelopes but would like to participate in the Novena. An affordable donation of whatever amount is greatly
appreciated, however, is not required to be included in this Novena. Thank you.
Nuevamente estaremos ofreciendo la Novena en honor al Dia de las Madres. Tu

The Council of Catholic Women of St. Theresa invites all ladies of the parish to join us for our monthly Lunch Bunch
meeting on Thursday, May 13, 2010 at 11:00 am at the China East Restaurant in the Walmart Shopping Center.
We will discuss our annual Father's Day Bake Sale and plan for the 54th Annual A.A.C.C.W. Convention. The
convention will be held September 10-12, 2010 at the Marriott Hotel at Windy Hill Rd., Marietta, GA. Fulfill your
Stewardship commitment by joining us for lunch or contacting an active member to learn how you can help with

FR. EDWARD O’CONNOR’S 50TH ANNIVERSARY/50TH ANIVERSARIO

As many may know, our founding pastor, Father Edward O'Connor will be celebrating his 50th
anniversary to the priesthood on July 19, 2010. Since he has been retired for a few years, we
are planning a celebration for him here at St Theresa on Monday June 7, 2010. He has agreed
to celebrate mass at 5:00 P.M. Mass will be followed by his favorite "a pot luck supper" in the
parish hall. It took some convincing, but, now he is looking forward to seeing St Theresa
parishioners, especially those who started our parish with him. He said, "your presence is
your gift", so I have agreed not to take up a collection for a present (but, I cannot control
an individual who wishes to give a card with an individual gift). I hope to have a planning
meeting in May about music to be used during the mass (his favorite hymn is "Here I Am

Como muchos de ustedes saben, nuestro Pastor fundador, Padre Edward O’Connor estará celebrando su
50th. Aniversario sacerdotal en Julio 19, 2010. Como el está retirado desde hace varios años, estamos
planeando una celebración en su honor en Junio 7, 2010. El aceptó venir a compartir con nosotros,
celebrar la misa a las 5:00 PM y después compartir su favorito “pot luck supper” en el salon social. En
mayo tendremos una reunion para planear la música que tendremos ese dia y para coordinar los
voluntarios que nos ayudarán a limpiar después del evento. Por favor marque sus calendarios para este

In his papal audience on April 14, 2010, Pope Benedict XVI began a series of talks
on the role of the priesthood. In his talk, he reflected on what it means for priests to
act in persona Christi. In part, he said:
"In the unwritten book that is his life, a priest is always a teacher. Not with the
presumption of those who impose their own truths but with the humble and joyful
sincerity of those who have found the Truth, have been grasped and transformed by
it and who therefore cannot stop announcing it."
"In fact, the priesthood is not chosen by anyone for himself. It is not a way of obtaining security in
life or a social position. The priesthood is the answer to the Lord's call ... to become preachers, not
of a personal truth, but of His truth."
En su audiencia Papal de abril 14, 2010, el Papa Benedicto XV! comenzó una serie de reflexiones
acerca del rol del sacerdocio. En su reflexión el manifestó lo que significa para los sacerdotes
actuar en la persona de Cristo. En parte, el dijo:
“En el libro no escrito de su vida, un sacerdote siempre es un profesor. No con la
presuntuosidad de aquellos que imponen su propia verdad pero con la humildad
y la sinceridad del gozo de aquellos que han encontrado la Verdad, la han
comprendido , han sido transformados por ella y por lo tanto no pueden parar de
anunciarla.” “De hecho, el sacerdocio no es escogido por ninguno de ellos por
ellos mismos. No es una manera de obtener una seguridad en la vida o una
posición social.. El sacerdocio es la respuesta a la llamada del Señor… a ser
predicadores, no de su verdad personal, sino de Su verdad.”
