From the Pastor
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Today throughout the diocese the Pastors are making an announcement about the DDF Campaign
which is now commencing. You should be receiving a letter from the Bishop in the next two weeks
and you are asked to respond to the request for assistance in funding the on-going operation of the
diocese. Our goal as a parish is to try to raise
$17,850.00 this year for the DDF Campaign. If
every household in our parish would co-operate we
would only have to give $40.00 a family. However,
there are always those who refuse to help for one
reason or another. Therefore, others will have to
pick up the slack. I would love to see every single
family giving at least something and doing their
fair share. Please be sure to put the name of our
parish on your envelope so that we are properly
credited by the diocese. If you are not registered in
any parish you will still be asked to assist in the
DDF Campaign in a few weeks when we do an inpew solicitation. Hopefully, you will register soon
in our parish. There are many of you who have
never registered. Registration blanks are usually in
the lobby of the Church but if there are none available you can pick one up at the parish office during
regular office hours.
This week marks the infamous decision of the Supreme Court in 1973 to legalize abortion. Since
that fateful day there have been millions and millions of babies killed in their mothers’ wombs.
Each year the Church in the U. S. marks January
22nd as a Day of Prayer for the legal protection of
the Unborn Children. It is a day of prayer and fasting. We are each asked to make some sacrifice
great or small to end abortion. on this coming Friday, January 22nd, there will be a Mass at the Cathedral at 5:30 p.m. with our Bishop followed by a
March in Support of Human Life beginning at 7:00
p.m. The March will go several blocks and there
will be speakers who will address the topic of
January 17, 2016
Pro-Life. I hope that each and every one of you
who possibly can go will indeed be present. You
can bring banners or flags and walk as a group to
show your solidarity with all who are fighting to
protect the right to life of the unborn. It would be
wonderful to see many of you there that day for
this special occasion. I think that it would be one of
many ways that we can live more fully this Jubilee
of Mercy because we would be speaking up and
showing support for the most vulnerable members
of our society.
God’s blessings on each of you during this week
and may you know the goodness and mercy of God
every day more and more.
Sincerely yours,
Father Timothy Davison

Sacrament of Penance and
Reconciliation: God is Rich in Mercy
An Examination of Conscience
How do you train your conscience? God’s
Word has provided us with the Ten Commandments for examining our consciences, as well as
the Sermon on the Mount (see Mt 5-7)., The Duties
of Christians ( Rom 12-15), and St. Pauls’ Hymn to
Love (1 Cor 13).
Using the Ten Commandments to
Examine Your Conscience
3. You shall keep holy the Sabbath
day.
You shall keep holy the day of the
Lord, serving God devotedly. Sunday
is a day for adoration of God and a day
of rest from the stress and activities of everyday
life. How stron is your devotion to the Holy Eucharist? What can you do to reclaim the Sabbath in
your life?
4. You shall honor your father and your
mother.
You shall respect legitimate authority in society.
As authorities of the family, parents are not only
respected, but honored. Adults are expected to see
to the care for their elderly parents. children should
learn from the virtues, prayerful life, education,
and faith their parents have taught them. Parents, in
turn, honor their children by caring for them and
teaching them the ways of the faith. How do you
live up to your family responsibilities?

Life is full of surprises, some pleasant, some not.
The scriptures are filled with stories of God’s
surprises cropping up when they are least expected: younger children obtaining the inheritance; the lowliest being seated highest up; an
itinerant preacher, killed like a criminal, exalted
to eternal, heavenly glory.
Anybody who has planned a wedding or
similar event knows that they are filled with opportunities for surprises. For the bridegroom in
today’s Gospel story, who has no direct contact
with Jesus, the pleasant surprise came because
somebody else paid attention and had faith in
Jesus.
We may think that the point of today’s familiar story of the wedding at Cana is that when we
have faith in Jesus, our lives will be pleasantly
changed. A Christian, however, needs to have a
broader perspective and realize that to have faith
in Christ means that somebody’s life—not necessarily our own—will be surprised for the better.

tierras.
