Installation Instructions
Eave Application
1. Deck Opening
Measure up 6 ½” from
the eave edge, along
the rake edge towards
the ridge and place
a mark on the roof
deck (reminder that
insulation cannot block

the vent opening).
Move to the other
end of the roof and
measure 6 ½” from
the eave edge towards
the ridge and make
another mark on the
roof deck and snap
a chalk line. Now

measure up 1” from
the chalk line and make
a second mark on the
roof, which should be
7 ½” from the eave
edge. Do the same at
the other end of the
roof and snap a second

chalk line. This will be
the location of the opening for the intake.

Keep the opening a minimum of 6” away
from both rake edges, chimneys, skylights
and vertical wall projections such as
dormers, and a minimum of 24” away from
roof valleys.
Using a circular saw with the depth set to
the thickness of the wood sheathing, cut and
remove the area between the two chalk lines.
See Figures B and C.
2. Underlayment
Install a minimum 18”
piece of WeatherLock®
self-sealing underlayment
starting at the eave
edge. See Figure D.
Once the self-sealing
underlayment has
been installed use
a sharp utility knife
to remove the
underlayment from
the 1-inch slot. See
Figure E.
5. Shingle Starter
Using the nails provided,
install starter strip
flush with the vent
edge, nailing per
shingle manufacturer’s
recommendations. See
Figure E Figure I.
3. Installing the Vent
Working left-toright, install the vent
flush with the eave
edge using the vent
alignment notch and
flush with the rake
edge. Maintain a full

4’ vent at both ends
of the roof and use a utility knife to cut the
second to last piece to length and trim the
underside of the cut end to maintain the
shiplap joint. Fasten the vent with the nails
provided using the built-in nail holes on each
vent. See Figure F.
4. Finish
Underlayment
Once the vent is
installed across
the roof place a
36” wide piece of
WeatherLock ® selfsealing underlayment

over the vent at the
eave and rake edges and up the roof. In cold
climates where code requires the use of an
ice and water barrier it must be installed and
extend a minimum of 24” past the exterior
wall at the eave edge. See Figure G.
Finish installing
an approved
underlayment over
the entire roof. See
Figure H.
Once the

Figure D underlayment is in place, install a drip edge
over the entire rake.
6. Shingle application
Using the nails provided,
install the first course
of shingles over the
eave vent and continue
the remaining shingle
courses per the
shingle manufacturer’s
recommendations.

Lower Roof/Above Eave Application
Step 1: Determine the Vent Slot Opening
Make a mark on the roof at least 12-inches
higher than the exterior wall beneath the
overhang. This is the lowest recommended
starting point for the vent slot/opening. See
Figure A.
Step 2: Shingle
Application
Install underlayment
and shingles from
the lower edge of
the roof until the top
course of shingles
overlaps the 12”
mark that was made in
Step 1 and stop.

Step 3: Cutting the Vent Slot/Opening
Measure up 6 ½” from the bottom of the
shingle tab of the top course installed in
Step 2. Snap a chalk line at this height across
the roof deck from rake edge to rake edge.
Measure up 1” from
this line and snap a
2nd chalk line across
the roof deck from
rake edge to rake
edge. This will be
the slot/opening for
the vent intake. See
Figure B

Step 5: Finishing
After the vent is installed over the 1” vent
slot/opening install WeatherLock ® self-sealing
underlayment (or a comparable product) and
Starter Strip on top of the vent. See Figure D.
Hand nail the Starter
Strip and first course
of shingles over
the vent using the
fasteners provided. A
nail gun can be used
once the shingles
are installed past the
vent.

Note: The opening in the top of the vent
must be left exposed to ensure proper
ventilation. Do not shingle over or cover the
vent opening.
Note: When cutting the vent slot/opening,
do not cut any closer than 6-inches from the
rake edge.
Step 4: Installing the Vent
Position the vent with
the alignment notch
at the bottom edge
of the last shingle
course. Hand nail
the vent with nails
provided. See Figure
C.

Mantenga el orificio a un mínimo de 6 pulg.
de distancia de ambas cornisas del tímpano,
chimeneas, tragaluces y proyecciones de
pared vertical como buhardillas y a una
distancia mínima de 24 pulg. de los valles del
techo.
Utilizando una sierra circular con la
profundidad configurada de acuerdo al
espesor del revestimiento de madera, corte
y elimine el área entre las dos marcas de tiza.

2. Revestimiento
Instale una pieza de
18 pulg. como mínimo
de revestimiento
autosellante
WeatherLock ® en
el borde del alero. Vea
la Figura D.
Una vez que el
revestimiento
autosellante ya ha sido
instalado, use un cúter
afilado para eliminar
el revestimiento de la
ranura de 1 pulgada.
Vea la Figura E.
5. Tejas iniciales
Utilizando los clavos que
se proveen, instale la
sección inicial alineada
con el borde de la
ventilación, clavando las

Comenzando de
izquierda a derecha,
instale la ventilación
alineada con el borde
del alero utilizando la
muesca de alineación

una ventilación total de 4 pies en ambos
extremos y use un cúter afilado para cortar
la penúltima pieza a medida y corte la parte
inferior del extremo cortado para mantener
la junta del traslapo. Ajuste la ventilación con
los clavos provistos utilizando los orificios para
clavos que ya están incorporados en cada
ventilación. Vea la Figura F.
4. Termine el revestimiento
Una vez que la
ventilación esté instalada
en el techo coloque una
pieza de 36 pulg. de
ancho de revestimiento
autosellante
WeatherLock ® en la
Figura G
ventilación del alero y en
la cornisa del tímpano
hacia la parte superior del techo. En climas
fríos donde el código requiera el uso de
una barrera de hielo y agua, ésta debe ser
instalada y debe extenderse por un mínimo
de 24 pulg. pasando la pared exterior en el
borde del alero. Vea la Figura G.
Termine de instalar el
revestimiento aprobado
en todo el techo. Vea la
Figura H.
Una vez que el

en su lugar, instale el
borde de goteo sobre
la totalidad del tímpano.

6. Instalación de tejas
Use los clavos provistos

respiradero del alero

Paso 1 : Determine Ia apertura de Ia ranura
de ventilación
Haga una marca sobre el techo ubicada al
menos 12 pulg. más elevada que Ia pared
exterior debajo de Ia saliente. Éste es el punto
inicial más bajo recomendado de Ia ranura/
apertura para Ia ventilación. Vea Ia Figura A.
Paso 2: lnstale
las tejas
lnstale el
revestimiento y las
tejas desde el borde
inferior del techo
hasta que Ia hilera
superior de tejas se
superponga sobre Ia
marca de 12 pulg. que
se realizó en el Paso 1 y deténgase.
Paso 5: Terminación
Despues de que se instale Ia ventilación
sobre Ia apertura/ranura de ventilación de
1 pulg., instale el revestimiento autosellante
Weatherlock ® (o un producto equivalente) y
las tejas de Ia hilera inicial sobre Ia ventilación.
Vea Ia Figura D.
Asegure, martillando
a mano,la hilera inicial
y Ia primera hilera
de tejas sobre Ia
ventilación usando
los sujetadores
provistos. Puede usar
una pistola neumatica

Paso 3: Corte Ia apertura/ranura para Ia
ventilación
Mida hasta 6 ½ pulg. desde Ia parte inferior

desde una comisa del tfmpano hasta Ia otra.

Ia otra. Ésta será Ia

corte más cerca que 6 pulg. desde Ia comisa
del tímpano.
Paso 4: lnstale Ia ventilación
Coloque Ia ventilación con Ia muesca de
alineación en el
borde inferior de Ia
ultima hilera de tejas.
Asegure, martillando
a mano, Ia ventilación
con los clavos
proporcionados. Vea
Ia Figura C.
