Planned Parenthood of Houston and
Southeast Texas is a leading provider
of reproductive services, sexuality
education and advocacy for
reproductive rights. We are a private,
non-profit organization working to
ensure that all women, men and
teens have access to safe, affordable
health care and reliable information.
We provide a broad range of medical
and community services through a
network of ten health centers in six
southeast Texas counties. With a clear
vision for the future, we are building
a stronger, healthier community one
family at a time.
The founding members of the Maternal
Health Clinic in 1936 were volunteers.
Decades later, that small, one-room clinic is
now known as Planned Parenthood of
Houston and Southeast Texas, an
organization which provides reproductive
health care to more than 55,000 women,
men and teens annually in Houston and
Southeast Texas. Still today, volunteers
remain a foundation of our successful
mission to bring these services to the
community.
As a PPHSET volunteer, you will have the
opportunity to contribute your time and
talents in many ways. Your commitment will
be tailored to meet your needs and
interests; volunteer activities are available
during the day, evening or on the weekend
and are available at all of our ten health
centers.
Volunteers work on many projects throughout the year, including:
Clinical Services
• Ensuring client and staff safety as clinic
escorts
• Providing clinical assistance in the family
planning and surgical services clinics
• Serving as hand holders to clients
Public Affairs
• Registering voters
• Writing letters to members of Congress
• Hosting advocacy parties in their homes
• Lobbying the Legislature during our
bi-annual Lobby Day
• Writing letters-to-the-editor
Administrative Services
• Assisting in our Resource Center Library
• Stuffing envelopes
• Doing various administrative projects
Community Outreach/Education
• Representing Planned Parenthood at local
health fairs, expos, festivals, concerts and
rallies
• Speaking before school and community
groups on topics such as sexual
decision-making, pregnancy prevention,
sexually transmitted infections and
Planned Parenthood services
Fundraising
• Providing support for the Gala, Roe v.
Wade Luncheon, Tennis Tournament and
other events
Volunteer Organizations
Our volunteers are individuals who are
active and connected to the issues and
current events that affect the mission of our
organization. Planned Parenthood offers
you the opportunity to stay informed by
joining one or both of the volunteer
membership organizations that we offer.
Both the Board of Advocates and the
Planned Parenthood Young Leaders (PPYL)
are designed to educate, enlighten and
broaden our members' awareness of the
many medical, social issues and public
policies that impact Planned Parenthood's
mission.
The Board of Advocates
The mission of the Board of Advocates is to
mobilize the experience, expertise and
energy of its members, and provide
financial and volunteer support to the
affiliate in the areas of direct service,
advocacy, education and fundraising.The
Board of Advocates holds four meetings
annually, which hosts a reception and
informative discussion from featured guest
speakers.
The four levels of membership are:
• $15 Student – Attend at least three
meetings and contribute 20 volunteer
hours.
• $25 Active – Attend at least three
meetings, contribute 20 volunteer hours
and serve on a committee.
• $100 Supporting – Attend meetings and
functions and support fundraising events.
• $500 Sustaining – This is a lifetime donation and we ask that you attend Board of
Advocates meetings.
Planned Parenthood Young Leaders (PPYL)
PPYL's mission is to build a new generation
of supporters and advocates for Planned
Parenthood of Houston and Southeast
Texas, and to raise awareness of and
appreciation for the agency and the services
it provides to the community. Four times a
year, PPYL will host events intended to
provide an opportunity to learn more about
the agency, its clients, services, volunteers,
and staff. PPYL members stay updated
through e-mail, which alerts members to
volunteer opportunities, parties, current
events, and other news of interest.

Planned Parenthood Young Leaders (PPYL)
