Monte Alto Forestal es una compañía productora de madera seca de Lenga
(Nothofagus Pumilio) de la Patagonia Chilena. Posee más de 59,000 hectáreas
de monte de Lenga, lo que la convierten en una de las más grandes compañías
integradas forestales de madera nativa en Chile y líder en producción forestal
sustentable en la Patagonia.
Los bosques de Monte Alto están conformados exclusivamente por Lenga, una
especie que provee una madera noble y cálida, con propiedades mecánicas que
le brindan gran versatilidad para múltiples usos.
Establecida cerca del puerto de Punta Arenas, Chile, Monte Alto está
estratégicamente ubicada para embarcar sus productos a cualquier destino
en el mundo.
Monte Alto is a hardwood lumber company that produces kiln-dried Lenga lumber
in Chilean Patagonia. Possessing over 59,000 hectares of Lenga forests, Monte Alto
is one of the largest integrated native forest products companies in Chile and the
leading sustainable forestry operation in Patagonia.
Monte Alto’s single-species forests yield a fine, noble and warm wood with
mechanical properties that allow it to be easily worked and used in many
applications. Located close to the port city of Punta Arenas, Monte Alto is
positioned to ship its lumber to any destination in the world.

Por más de 80 años, Monte Alto ha liderado el manejo
sustentable de bosques nativos en el corazón de la
Patagonia. Fundada en 1929 por la familia Mladinic Beros, ha
jugado un rol muy activo en el desarrollo de la región. Mucha
de la madera usada para la construcción de casas y edificios
en Punta Arenas fue producida por el bosque y aserradero de
Monte Alto.
En el año 2008, la compañía Global Environment Fund (GEF),
se incorporó como socio mayoritario en el negocio. GEF es
una compañía de los EEUU dedicada a invertir en empresas
económicamente exitosas y con un impacto positivo en el
medio ambiente y sus comunidades colindantes. A partir de
la contribución de capital y amplia experiencia en el negocio
forestal aportada por GEF, Monte Alto ha realizado
sustanciales inversiones en su planta industrial, ha
desarrollado nuevas prácticas de manejo sustentable y ha
introducido una estrategia comercial de alcance global a su
negocio.
For over 80 years, Monte Alto has pioneered the sustainable
management of native Lenga forests in the heart of
Patagonia. Founded in 1929 by the Mladinic Beros family,
Monte Alto played an instrumental role in settlement of
region. Much of the lumber used to construct the building
stock of Punta Arenas passed through Monte Alto’s forests
and mills.
In 2008, the Mladinic family partnered with the Global
Environment Fund (GEF), a US investment company
dedicated to adding value to profitable companies that protect
the environment and improve their surrounding communities.
Led by GEF’s significant capital contribution and extensive
experience in the global forest products industry, Monte Alto
made substantial investments in the industrial plant,
implemented new forest management practices, and
introduced global marketing strategies.

Lenga (Nothofagus pumilio) es una especie latifoliada
endémica de Sudamérica que solo puede encontrarse
en el extremo sur de Sudamérica, en la Patagonia chilena
y argentina . Conocida en el mundo por sus cualidades únicas,
es una especie muy apreciada por la nobleza de su madera.
Monte Alto esta comprometido en el manejo sustentable de
sus mas de 44,000 hectáreas de bosques de Lenga y 15,000
hectáreas de tierras de conservación. Estos bosques
representan el activo más valioso de la compañía y todos sus
esfuerzos están puestos en el desarrollo sustentable de esta
fuente natural de recursos.
Lenga (Nothofagus pumilio) is a broad-leaf, deciduous
hardwood species native to the southern Andes range.
Known throughout the world for its unique qualitie, the
species is found only in the southern tip of South America.
Monte Alto Forestal S.A. is engaged in the sustainable
management of over 44,000 hectares of Lenga forests of
uneven-aged stands and 15,000 hectares of conservation
land. These Lenga forests are Monte Alto’s primary assets
and all of the company’s activities are dedicated to
sustainably increasing the value of this natural resource.

A partir de sus profundas raíces en la comunidad local, Monte
Alto entiende cabalmente la importancia económica, social y
ambiental de sus recursos forestales. Es para proteger ese
valor en el largo plazo que la compañía solicitó y recibió la
certificación Forests Stewardship Council™ (FSC™) en el año
2011, a través de Rainforest Aliance™ .
Como muestra de su fuerte compromiso con el manejo
forestal sustentable, Monte Alto recibe en forma permanente
la visita de expertos y docentes para el estudio de sus
bosques de Lenga. Los bosques de Monte Alto han sido objeto
de profundos estudios ecológicos y de biodiversidad.
Due to its roots in the local community, Monte Alto has
a deep understanding of the economic, social and
environmental value of its forest resource. To protect
those values over the long-term, the company pursued
and received Forest Stewardship Council (FSC™)
certification in 2011, through Rainforest Aliance™.
In addition to its strong commitment to sustainable
forest management, Monte Alto welcomes academics
and environmental educators to study its native Lenga
forests. The forests of Monte Alto have hosted critical
forest ecology and wildlife studies in the region.

Our Products
Nuestros principales productos son madera de Lenga bruta
y madera de Lenga secada en cámara, cepillada y clasificada.
La madera es secada hasta alcanzar un contenido de
humedad del 8% a 10%. La Lenga es una madera noble,
fina y cálida, de fácil trabajo y de infinitas aplicaciones.
Monte Alto posee certificación FSC™ para la Cadena de
Custodia de todos sus productos.
Our main products are rough and planed kiln-dried graded
Lenga lumber. The lumber is dried to 8% to 10% moisture
content. Lenga is a fine, noble and warm wood with
mechanical properties that allow it to be easily worked and
used in many applications.
Monte Alto has recieved FSC™ Chain of Custody certification
for all of its wood products.
Usos de la Lenga
Uses of Lenga
Los principales usos de la Lenga son la fabricación de muebles, paneles
encolados de canto, puertas, marcos, pisos sólidos y molduras. El color
de la madera varía entre tonalidades que van desde el rosado en el
duramen hasta el amarillo o blanco en la albura. Los fabricantes de
muebles aprecian especialmente esta madera por su elegancia, calidad
y fácil elaboración.
Lenga’s uses include furniture, edge glued panels,
doors, window frames, solid floors and quality
moldings. The wood’s coloring ranges from pink
heartwood to yellowish white sapwood. Furniture
manufacturers appreciate Lenga for its elegance,
quality and workability.
