From our Pastor...
I would like to take a moment to announce and explain some changes that will be happening to our
Mass schedule starting this summer.
First, the big one:
Starting Sunday, June 7 (the first weekend in June), our 5pm evening Mass will be switching from an English to a
Spanish Mass. Life Teen, which normally meets after the 5pm Sunday Mass, will switch to Wednesday evenings.
Since Life Teen does not meet during the summer months, this change will happen in the Fall.
Since I started here last July, I have been discerning how we can better serve the large Hispanic community that
lives in our parish boundaries. Our 1pm Spanish Mass is completely full, and the community needs room to grow.
Also, it is more convenient to have more than one Mass time to choose from, because we all have different
schedules.
Often on Sundays when we do not have Life Teen in the evening, I have noticed that many of our teens go to Mass
with their families in the morning. I am encouraged to see this, and hope that Sunday can really be a day for
families to be together, with the Mass at the center of the Lord’s Day.
I realize that this can be an inconvenience for those who have gotten used to coming to Mass on Sunday evening,
or who like to have that Mass available when they are away for the weekend. Of course, 5pm Mass in Spanish is still
Mass, and fulfills our Sunday obligation if we cannot come at any other time. As the spiritual father of Christ the
King, then, I am asking this inconvenience for the sake of our Spanish-speaking community that needs room to
grow.
As always, I am happy to talk to anybody about this change and about anything else that concerns the life of our
parish.
Two other (much smaller) changes:
Starting Saturday, June 6, our 8am Mass will be in the church and in English, instead of in Saint Peregrine Shrine and
in Latin. While I really enjoy the Latin Mass and especially enjoy singing the Latin Mass chants, I would like to make
this Mass more accessible to people who can only get to a daily Mass on Saturday morning because of their work
schedule.
Our morning Mass will stay in the church through the summer months. We would like as many people as possible
to come, and the church has more room than the Shrine. Also, I want the Saint Peregrine Shrine to be a place apart,
for adoration and pilgrimage. We will still on occasion use the Shrine, when the church is unavailable, just as we did
during the time of construction.
In Christ,
Pastor
Effective June 6th, 2015
To meet the overwhelming need for
another Spanish Mass, the 5pm
Sunday Mass will be celebrated in
Spanish.
Daily Mass will remain in the
church throughout the summer
and will include the Saturday Mass.
All Daily Masses will be in English.
Harmony & Beauty
What great work, we accomplish together! As many of you have said, our church looks so beautiful!
Thank you to those of you who have donated for specific articles which will be used to redress the
church. There is still opportunity for those of you that have asked to participate in this next phase of the
church remodel. Below you will find a list of the articles for the church which will be purchased and/or
commissioned. Please feel free to let Father Matt, Father Scott or any of the staff know if you would like
to give a gift to help raise the dignity of our sacred worship space and to add to the beauty.
Remember, God will never be outdone in generosity!
Some of the articles we plan to purchase for the church include an Altar, Ambo, Presider’s Chair,
2 Deacon/Concelebrant Chairs, 2 Altar Server Benches, 2 Double Wide Kneelers for Shrines (Our Lady of
Guadalupe & Divine Mercy), Altar Crucifix, 7 Altar Candles, Side Altar for the Alcove, 6 Side Altar Candles,
Paschal Candle Stand, 4 Holy Water Fonts, 2 Credence Tables, 4 Utility Tables and a new Baptismal Font.
The estimated cost to redress the church is expected to be $40,000 - $50,000.
We are also in the process of refining the plan to Harmonize and Beautify the grounds surrounding the
church and shrine. Look for more information in upcoming bulletins.
Join us for “The ‘One Thing’ is Three” Parish Study!
“The ‘One Thing’ is Three” is our next teaching as written and presented by Father Michael Gaitley. The study delves into the
great key to wisdom: The Most Holy Trinity. Father shares fresh insights to the relevance of the Trinity to our daily lives, how
the Trinity illuminates every aspect of our faith, and how knowing and loving our Triune God allows us to live our faith to the
fullest. This study makes theology accessible to everyday Catholics. The teaching is offered in a group meeting for 10 weeks,
each session is 1 1/2 hours. There is a short weekly reading. No reading is required prior to the first session.
WHAT DO YOU NEED?
Book (required) - $15
Retreat Companion/Workbook (recommended) - $33

St. Peregrine Cancer Ministry
Have you wondered, “What is the Cancer Ministry here in the St. Peregrine Shrine?” Are
you being invited to share in this ministry?
My name is Anthanette and I would like to thank you for the opportunity to serve my
brothers and sisters and their families who struggle with the effects of cancer here at the
St. Peregrine Shrine. Our Lord has blessed the campus of Christ the King with the gift of
the St. Peregrine Shrine through all those who have responded to his invitation to bring
forth the Shrine and the work of the cancer ministry. Lives of others are being affected
through this ministry. Those who come from afar to visit the Shrine or write to us, seek
peace, comfort and support in a time that can be clouded with fear, suffering and anxieties of the unknown. They
find spiritual healing, emotional peace and strength for the journey for themselves and their loved ones. They are
reminded that they are never alone for Our God is always with them. It is in the outreach of the cancer ministry,
with notes of love and encouragement, wrapped in the comforting gift of a prayer shawl/blanket that they are
reminded of His love for them. Our Lord invites us to participate in this beautiful work of love, to be His hands,
feet and heart for others.
The prayer requests have come from 46 of 50 states, and 15 countries out of the United States. The ministry is
growing and people travel from afar seeking support, hope and encouragement. We are looking to build the
volunteer support for the Shrine.
So I ask you, are you being invited to participate in this work of love? Please contact us for more information.
We look forward to sharing more with you.

Charles Passe Scholarship for Post-High School
Education
Charles Passe began his association with Christ the King
Parish in 1981 after moving from Minnesota to Tucson,
then to Mesa where he continued his love of woodworking. Mr. Passe set up this endowment in 1994, and
his commitment to young people and their success lives
on through this endowed scholarship. Any Christ the
King registered parishioner that is pursuing post-high
school trade or vocational education (IT, automotive,
dental, construction are a few examples) is eligible.
The size of the award will be based on the number of
qualified applicants. The Charles Passe Scholarship Fund
is managed by the Catholic Community Foundation for
Christ the King Parish. The application is available in the
Parish office and online at http://ctk-catholic.org/charles
-passe-scholarship/ and is due by May 7, 2015.
Perpetual Adoration
The parish community is
invited to join with
Eucharistic adorers to spend
a holy hour with Father
Matt, Sunday, May 3 at
7pm. This is an opportunity
for the whole parish family to
spend an hour together in
the presence of the Blessed
Sacrament. It is important for
the older teens, who are
seeking God's plan for them, to join with us.
Fifteen minutes before the Holy Hour at 6:45, Mary
Castner will lead us in Song and Praise as we
prepare for this Holy Hour – 7 pm Sunday May 3.
If you desire to become a scheduled adorer please
call Dick 602 300-8562 or

charts to see hours we need additional adorers,
but any hour you choose will be most welcomed.

Prayer for Vocations
O God, who wills not the death of a sinner but rather that he be converted and live, grant we beseech You through
the intercession of Blessed Mary, ever Virgin, Saint Joseph her spouse, Blessed Junipero Serra, and all the saints,
an increase of laborers for Your Church, to spend and consume themselves for souls. Through our Lord Jesus Christ,
Your Son, who lives and reigns with You in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
Cf. Ps 33 (32): 5-6
The merciful love of the Lord fills the earth;
by the word of the Lord the heavens were made, alleluia.

I believe in the Son,
I believe in the Risen One
I believe I overcome,
By the power of His blood
Amen, amen,
I'm alive I'm alive because He lives
Amen, amen,
Let my song join the one that never ends
(Because He lives)
I was dead in the grave,
I was covered in sin and shame
I heard mercy call my name,
He rolled the stone away
Because He lives I can face tomorrow,
Because He lives ev'ry fear is gone
I know He holds my life, my future in His hand

The Nicene Creed
I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible.
I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from
God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through
him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven, and by the Holy Spirit
was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he
suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended
into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and
the dead and his kingdom will have no end. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds
from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through
the prophets. I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of
sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.

He is the good shepherd and He’s laid down His life for His sheep
And out of many nations He’s gathered one fold and one faith.
And He has built His church on the rock foundation of faith,
On apostles and prophets who shepherd the people in his place.
There is one faith, one hope and one baptism,
One God and Father of all.
There is one church, one body, one life in the Spirit
Now given so freely to all.
He gave to Simon, Peter and to all of the twelve,
The keys to the kingdom so darkness would never prevail.
But some of the shepherds have pastured themselves on their sheep
So He’s come out against them and scattered His people of faith.
But He’ll not forsake His people. He’ll claim His sheep for His own.
He’ll send out His Word to the nations, regather His people back home.
For He is the good shepherd He’s laid down His life for His sheep
And out of many nations, He’s gathered one fold and one faith.
The Good Shepherd has risen, who laid down his life for his sheep and willingly died for his flock, alleluia.
Text: Henry W. Baker/Music: ST. COLUMBA/Public Domain
The King of love my shepherd is, Whose goodness fails me never.
I nothing lack if I am His, and He is mine forever.
Where streams of living water flow, my ransomed soul He’s leading.
And where the verdant pastures grow, with food celestial feeding.
Confused and foolish, oft I strayed, but yet in love He sought me.
And on His shoulder gently laid, and home, rejoicing, brought me.
In death’s dark vale I fear no ill, with You, dear Lord, beside me.
Your rod and staff my comfort still, Your cross before to guide me.
You spread a table in my sight, Your saving grace bestowing,
And oh, what transport of delight from Your pure chalice flowing!
And so through all the length of days, Your goodness fails me never,
Good Shepherd, may I sing Your praise within Your house forever.

God of Justice, Saviour to all, came to rescue the weak and the poor
Chose to serve and not be served
Jesus, You have called us: Freely we've received now freely we will give
We must go live to feed the hungry, stand beside the broken,
We must go. Stepping forward keep us from just singing
Move us into action, we must go
To act justly everyday, loving mercy in every way
Walking humbly before You God
You have shown us, what You require
Freely we've received now freely we will give
Fill us up and send us out, fill us up and send us out
Fill us up and send us out Lord

Beautiful Savior, King of Creation, Son of God and Son of Man!
Truly I’d love thee, Truly I’d serve thee, Light of my soul, my joy, my crown.
Fair are the meadows, fair are the woodlands, robed in flow'rs of blooming spring;
Jesus is fairer, Jesus is purer; He makes our sorr'wing spirit sing.
Fair is the sunshine, Fair is the moonlight, Bright the sparkling stars on high;
Jesus shines brighter, Jesus shines purer, Thank all the angels in the sky.
Beautiful Savior, Lord of the nations, Son of God and Son of Man! Glory and honor,
Praise, adoration, Now and forevermore be thine!
