From the Pastor
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Today is WORLD MISSION SUNDAY and
throughout all the United States a special collection
is being taken up to support the Church’s missionary activity. Let us pray for foreign missionaries
who bring the Gospel of Christ to sometimes dangerous areas. And let us support them also with our
donations.
This is the first full weekend that Father Jeff
Fasching is with us. Father Fasching is a Diocesan
priest from the Diocese of Wichita, Kansas. He has
been working, however, in Springfield Missouri for
the past eight years where he has been taking care
of the Latin Mass community as well as helping
out as Chaplain for various hospitals ans assisting
far flung parishes that need support on Sundays. I
am sure the Diocese of Springfield will feel his absence but we are surely happy that he can be here
with us on a permanent basis. Let us prayerfully
support Father Fashing as he begins his pastoral
work in our community. A special welcome party
will be held today after the 10:30 a.m. Latin Mass
in the Cafeteria and again after the 12:30 p.m.
Spanish Mass. Everyone is invited to come and
meet Father Fasching.
Please pray for our Diocesan priests who will be
making their annual retreat this week in Subiaco,
Arkansas. Father Oscar will be among those
priests. I made my retreat in July this year in Kansas City, Missouri at the Priory of Our Lady of
Ephesus. Priests are under a lot of pressure these
days and so need the prayers and support of the
People of God. Let us also pray for more vocations
because the harvest is great but the laborers are
scarce. It has been that way since the beginning
and so it has always been necessary to beg the Harvest Master to send out laborers into His great harvest. We need men and women filled with the zeal
of the Gospel who desire above all things the salvation of souls and who are willing to pour themselves out for their brothers and sisters. Just think if
October 18, 2015
we had twice as many priests and sisters and brothers and Deacons in the Church than we do how
much more work might be done for God’s Kingdom.
This week we are privileged to receive a visit from
the PILGRIM STATUE OF OUR LADY OF SAN
JUAN DE LOS LAGOS. The Sanctuary of Our
Lady of San Juan de Los Lagos in the State of Jalisco, Mexico is one of the most important Marian
Shrines in Mexico. It is a wonderful opportunity to
deepen our love for the Mother of the Savior as we
receive her image here at our parish on Friday of
this week. There will be a solemn “welcome” at
6:00 p.m. starting near the rectory and then a
“mini-procession” to the Church followed by Mass
at 7:00 p.m. Following Mass there will be a rosary
led by the Youth of the Diocese. The image of our
Lady will remain with us in our parish overnight
and then be solemnly carried to St. Francis Xavier
parish for a four mile procession to which all are
invited to participate. Make sure you are in good
enough health, though. What an awesome honor it
is to know and love the Mother of God who is
really our mother too in the order of grace. O Holy
Mary, conceived without sin pray for us who have
recourse to thee. The holy image of Our Lady of
San Juan de Los Lagos will return briefly to our
parish on Monday evening, October 6th where a
special Mass for the sick will be celebrated at 7:00
p.m. Our Lady, Health of the Sick, pray for us!!
I would like to give you a heads-up about another
important happening in our parish that will occur
on Wednesday, November 11th. The event will
occur in fifty five places in the U.S. but our place
will be the final atop on the U.S. tour. I am referring to the visit of the relic of St. Maria Goretti.
The relics that are held in a bier will be arriving
sometime on Wednesday, November 11th. I am
hoping that there will be an opportunity for the
children of the school and religious education
classes to make a little “visit” to see the relics since
Maria Goretti was a 12 year old girl when she was
martyred because of her desire to maintain her purity. She is Patroness of the Youth. In our time of
of so much impurity she is a beacon of light and
through her powerful intercession can obtain for
us the Virtue of Chastity. Perhaps at her visit that
can be our special prayer as we approach her relics
to venerate her sacred memory on November 11th.
Our parish was selected by our Bishop to receive
her holy relics. A Mass in Spanish will be offered
by Bishop Slattery at 6:00 p.m. followed by a period of veneration until 11:00 p.m. All are invited
to come at some point during the evening to listen
to the story of St. Maria Goretti and to present special petitions to her. More details will follow but I
just wanted to give you a “heads-up” so that you
could mark this date on your calendars.
God bless and keep each of you and your families.
Have a great week!!
Sincerely yours,
Father Timothy Davison

What is the Origin of World Mission Sunday?
In 1926, Pope Pius XI instituted World
Mission Sunday. He asked for prayer, animation,
celebration, and offerings for the Missions. His
concern was to engender a sense of responsibility
in people for supporting the Missions throughout
the world.
The first commemoration was in 1927 and
the Pope asked that it would be observed in every
diocese, parish and institute. It was to be a true
World Missions Sunday. The collection on that
first World Mission Sunday, like today, is for the
Society of the Propagation of the Faith, providing
support for all workers in mission churches.

Del Párroco:
Queridos hermanos y hermanas en
Cristo,
peticiones a ella. Tendré más detalles en el
futuro.
