spending two months with us. Marcial is in his 3rd year of
formation - Theology.

Seventh Sunday
of Easter
THE COMMUNION OF SAINTS
Six or seven months ago we celebrated the Feast of All Saints. What a wonderful treasury in our
heritage is the communion of saints. Today we focus on the
earliest saints named by the Church: the disciples of the Lord.
The choosing of Matthias, as recounted in today’s reading from
the Acts of the Apostles, is a delightful story of how the early
church responded to the needs of the growing community.
Statistics show that membership in the Catholic Church has
been growing steadily in the last several years. Many are responding to the call of the Lord and entering the initiation process called the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults. One of the
great hymns we sang at the Easter Vigil, as those to be baptized approached the baptismal font, was the Litany of Saints,
in which we invoked the names of those who now rest in the
presence of the Lord. As the candidates were baptized, the
Church was made new once again.
LOOKING TOWARD PENTECOST

worldwide to use the months ahead as a
time of preparation & prayer for the
World Meeting of Families to be held in
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in
September 2015.
Pope Francis prayed:
“Let every family be a welcoming place of goodness and peace
for children and the elderly, for the sick and the lonely, for the
poor and the needy.”
Pope Francis also asks all families to enrich and energize family life by praying the “World Meeting of Families Prayer” each
day for their own family’s personal intentions.
“Love Is Our Mission: The Family Fully Alive”

God and Father of us all,
in Jesus, your Son and our Savior, You have made us
Your sons and daughters in the family of the Church.
May Your grace and love
help our families in every part of the world
be united to one another in fidelity to the Gospel.
May the example of the Holy Family,
with the aid of Your Holy Spirit, guide all families,
especially those most troubled,
to be homes of communion and prayer
and to always seek Your truth and live in your love.
Through the centuries millions have responded to
God’s call to ministry, many of them named as saints by the
Church. These saints are models for us, since many of them
led ordinary lives yet always kept their focus on the Lord
Jesus. As we stand at the threshold of the feast of Pentecost,
we look toward a new Pentecost, a time of renewal in the
Church, in our parish communities, and in the hearts of all the
faithful. We, too, are called by God to keep our actions focused
on the Lord. As we prepare to celebrate the great feast of Pentecost, let us pray for those who have responded to God’s call.
Let us also pray that the Holy Spirit will continue to inspire us
to renewal, reconciliation, and peace.
The 2015 Annual Catholic Appeal; our diocesan goal remains
$47.883.00; the same as for the last few years.

Community Happenings Corner
The Haitian Community Mass
The Haitian Community is having their Mass on Sunday, May
17, 2015 at 2:45 PPM at St. Mary Star of the Sea Church. The
celebrant will be Rev. Nixon Jean Francois. All are welcome.
Rosary Society – Annual Breakfast— The Rosary Society is
having their 3rd Annual Breakfast on Saturday, June 20, 2015
from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM in the auditorium of Peninsula Academy Charter School at St. Mary Star of the Sea. There will be
music and plenty of food. Tickets are $20.00 for adults and
$10.00 for children. See the flyer in the church lobby for contact information.
Trip to Dorney Park - St. Mary’s will have a trip to Dorney
Park on Saturday, July 11, 2015. Departure at 8:00 A.M and
returning at 7:00 P.M. The cost of the trip is $75.00 that will
cover the transportation and entrance to the park. For information, call Zoila Herrera at 516-633-6017.
St. Anthony of Padua Holy Relic Visit
In honor of the Feast of Saint Anthony of Padua, the holy relic
of the saint will be on display in the Diocese of Brooklyn as
follows:

Mass will be held both days in the morning, followed by
veneration. Mass will also be held at the end of the day.

NYC Municipal ID—The New City Municipal Identification
cards are now available for free. This card has many advantages: you may use it to open a bank account, as your
library card, receive discounts at movie theatres, one year free
membership in more than 30 cultural institutions, discounts on
prescriptions, and as an official form of identification in the New
York City. For assistance in applying for the card, and more
information contact Estebana Niño, or pick up an information
pamphlet in the rectory.
REGISTER TO VOTE – YOUR VOTE COUNTS!!!!!
If you have not yet done so, please remember to register to
vote as soon as possible. It is important that all residents of
the Rockaways who can register to vote do register to vote.
Don’t forget to vote in ALL elections; local, state and federal.
Our community is often overlooked by aid from our government
because they feel that we don’t care enough to register and to
vote. If we do not register and do not vote we will continue to
be the ‘forgotten peninsula’ of NYC. Visit the rectory and pick
up a voter registration form in either English or Spanish. Voter
Registration Forms are also available in other languages; ask
for more information at the rectory. Remember, YOUR VOTE
COUNTS!!!.

Séptimo Domingo de
Pascua
LA COMUNION DE LOS SANTOS
Hace exactamente siete meses celebramos la
festividad de Todos los Santos. ¡Qué maravilloso tesoro hemos
heredado con la comunión de los santos! Hoy nos centramos en
los primeros santos nombrados por la Iglesia: los discípulos del
Señor. La elección de Matías, de la manera como es relatada
en la lectura de hoy de los Hechos de los Apóstoles, es una
historia maravillosa sobre cómo la naciente Iglesia respondía a
las necesidades de una creciente comunidad. Las estadísticas
muestran que el número de miembros en la Iglesia ha crecido
sostenidamente en los últimos años. Muchos han respondido al
llamado del Señor y han ingresado en el proceso de iniciación
denominado el Rito de la Iniciación Cristiana de Adultos. Uno de
los grandes himnos que entonamos en la Vigilia Pascual,
mientras se acercan a la fuente bautismal los que van a ser
bautizados, es la Letanía de los Santos, en la que invocamos el
nombre de los que ahora descansan en la presencia del Señor.
En el bautismo de los candidatos la Iglesia se renueva otra vez.
CON LA MIRADA EN PENTECOSTÉS
En el curso de los siglos millones han respondido al
llamado de Dios al ministerio, y muchos de ellos han sido
nombrados santos por la Iglesia. Estos santos son ejemplos
para nosotros, muchos de ellos llevaron vidas ordinarias pero
siempre se mantuvieron firmes en el Señor Jesús. Ante el
umbral de la fiesta de Pentecostés, ponemos la mirada en un
nuevo Pentecostés, un tiempo de renovación de la Iglesia, en
nuestras comunidades parroquiales y en el corazón de todos
los fieles. Dios también nos llama a mantener nuestras acciones
enfocadas en el Señor. Al prepararnos para celebrar la gran
fiesta de Pentecostés, oremos por los que han respondido al
llamado de Dios. Oremos también para que el Espíritu Santo
continúe inspirándonos a la renovación, la reconciliación y la
paz.

El Papa Francisco ha pedido a todos
los católicos de todo el mundo
utilizar los próximos meses como un
tiempo de preparación y oración por
el Encuentro Mundial de las Familias
que se celebrará en Filadelfia, Pennsylvania, en septiembre
del 2015.
El Papa Francisco oró: "Que cada familia sea un lugar
acogedor de bondad y paz para los niños, los ancianos, los
enfermos, los que están solos, los pobres y los
necesitados”.
El Papa Francisco también pide a todas las familias enriquecer y dinamizar la vida familiar con la Oración del
"Encuentro Mundial de las Familias" todos los días junto a
las intenciones personales de su propia familia.

Sociedad del Rosario - Desayuno Anual- La Sociedad del
Rosario llevara a cabo su tercer Desayuno Anual el Sábado, 20
