Nuestros lectores nos preguntan ¿por qué PlayArts? Y es que
parece que el arte y la playa no tienen una relación intuitiva.
Pero resulta que es todo lo contrario: el arte es una constante que realmente diferencia al Sureste Mexicano del mundo de manera única, porque no está encerrado en museos,
conservatorios o teatros. El arte se respira en el aire, con
mujeres y hombres talentosos que hacen música en bares,
exponen sus pinturas en avenidas, actúan, bailan y cantan
en hoteles o fotografían rincones y miradas de este increíble
espacio. Y no solo eso; el arte está en las calles, plasmado
en los muros de las casas de Holbox, Puerto Morelos Playa
del Carmen, Cancún o Tulum, pintados por artistas (a veces anónimos) que nos regalan a todos, una creación única
que se va incorporando como huella única de cada una de
nuestras ciudades.
El arte urbano, que ya adorna las calles de muchas ciudades en el mundo, se ha convertido, realmente en uno de
los signos de identidad característico de la Riviera Maya y
uno de sus grandes atractivos silenciosos. A todos nuestros
lectores: gracias por compartir nuestra pasión.
Our readers ask us, why PlayArts? And I know it seems
that art and the beach ha intuitive relationship. But it turns
out it’s completely the opposite: art is a constant that really
differentiates Mexico’s southeast from the rest of the world
in a very unique way, given it’s not locked up in museums,
conservatories or theaters. Art is breathed in the air, with
talented women and men making music in bars, displaying
their paintings in avenues, performing, dancing and singing
in hotels or photographing every corner and gaze of this incredible space/place. And not just that; art is in the streets,
embodied in the walls of houses in Holbox, Puerto Morelos, Playa del Carmen, Cancun or Tulum, painted by artists
(sometimes anonymous) who gift all of us with a unique
creation that is embedding itself in each one of our cities
like a type of footprint. Urban art, which decors the streets
of many cities in the world already, has really become into
one of the characteristics of the Riviera Maya’s identity and
one of its main silent attractions. So, to all of our readers:

emociones. Festival con la participación de los mejores
directores, productores y realizadores de la industria cinematográfica del mundo para exhibir, promover y difundir sus proyectos. Se promueve la producción local
y nacional y las bellas locaciones yucatecas, con temas
sobre la conservación de las tradiciones culturales que
favorecen al mejoramiento y la calidad de vida, como
una herramienta de transformación cultural y social.
Este segundo Festival Internacional de Cine rendirá homenaje a dos mujeres de reconocida trayectoria en el
cine nacional, Ofelia Medina y Sara García

Se presentó la convocatoria para participar en la 2da
Muestra de Artes Visuales Quintana Roo 2016, con
el fin de abrir espacios a los creadores e impulsar el
quehacer artístico y cultural en el Estado.
PROYECTO/
RESTORE COZUMEL
Dos artistas urbanos procedentes de San Luis Potosí, Janín
Garcín y Abraham Udieberto, que forman parte del proyecto Restore Coral, llegaron a Cozumel para trabajar en
murales que buscan hacer conciencia de la preservación de
los arrecifes coralinos y las especies que los habitan. Restore
Coral es la primera campaña en México de innovación social enfocada a la preservación del ecosistema marino. Para
revertir los efectos, cuentan con una serie de eco tecnologías
y micro acciones involucrando a la sociedad civil, ong's y
Asociaciones Civiles.
El objetivo del proyecto es la intervención de espacios
públicos por medio del arte urbano, con artistas invitados
a crear murales que inviten al transeúnte a concientizarse.
LIBRO/ NOSTALGIA DE PÁJAROS
Cristian Marcelino Peña Poot estudiante del ITSFCP, presentó el libro «Nostalgia de pájaros», donde el alumno plasmó sus pensamientos poéticos, que lo llevaron a inspirarse
en la interrogante ¿Dónde están los pájaros en la noche?.
Precisó que fue un proyecto iniciado desde el 2013 y finalizado en febrero de 2015, gracias al apoyo de la máxima casa
de estudios en la Zona Maya, imprimiéndose un tiraje de
500 ejemplares.
El joven escritor, lamentó que hoy muy pocos jóvenes
se interesen en el ámbito de la cultura en cualquiera de sus
manifestaciones por lo que, a través de este libro, pretende
incentivar la lectura exhortando a la comunidad estudiantil para adquirir ese importante hábito y conocer temas y
realidades. Recientemente ha sido acreedor de la mención
honorífica en el Premio Nacional de Cuento.

Latinoamérica vuelve a la carga. Ahora en su 17a. edición,
contará con más de 50 bandas que se moverán al ritmo de
un gran abanico de ritmos. Buena música, altos decibeles,

diversión, tianguis cultural, zona gastronómica, zona de
disqueras independientes, ong, y mucho, sí… mucho rock

A fusion on art and natural beauty in a magical corner of
the Riviera Maya, it is the oldest natural port of Quintana
Roo and the most important statewide and a strategic point
to visit Cancun, Playa del Carmen and the Riviera Maya,
being its cuisine one of its best attractions.
The current insignia of Puerto Morelos is the lighthouse, which was inclined by Hurricane Beulah in 1967
and has a reef (declared national Park) that is part of the
world’s second largest reef barrier, and it is only 500 meters
from the beach.

for art and culture through gastronomic, wine, beer, music
and plastic arts festivals and the best is to see the residents
getting involved.
With art galleries everywhere and local venues hosting
cultural and artistic activities such as concerts, exhibitions
and recitals all the time. It is common to find all kinds of
cultural events such as the flea market of crafts, Hunab-Ku,
with artisans from the region and other parts of Mexico and
the world.
In Puerto Morelos there are about 80 artisans who are
union members and boost the sector, mainly, they are producers of clothing, jewelry, handbags, shoes and products
made from amber. You can even find items now with an or-
igin tag called «Hecho en Puerto Morelos» (Made in Puerto
Morelos), which promotes the sale of products made in the
municipality.
Among the highlights of the Port is the Art Festival,
where people are encouraged to buy local products, and
promote the culture in the place. The «Casa de la Cultura»
(House of Culture) conducts a «Waterfront International
Theatre Festival» (Festival de Teatro Internacional Frente al
Mar) and the International Music Festival (Festival Internacional de Música), which promotes the different musical
genres during three days. Additionally, the event is complemented with the show of plastic and visual arts, Art Walk,
who present their works and at night events take place in
the different bars, which is called «Huateque Trasnochado».

Impresiona la energía que transmiten estos jóvenes y sorprende la fuerza de su música, creada desde la inspiración
sincera de aquellos que aman lo que hacen.
Llegaron de Chiapas para quedarse en Playa del Carmen
por un tiempo. Su presentación en el Teatro de la Ciudad el
mes pasado fue un éxito rotundo, no es difícil esperar que la
fama de Vina hell crezca a velocidad relámpago.
Cuatro jóvenes, entre 18 y 22 años, Jesús Morales - Violín, Victor Conde - Guitarra, Alejandro (Jambi) Lara - Contrabajo y Brandon (Bred) Palacios - Percusiones/Batería, llevan más de 4 años tocando. – Empezamos siendo una banda
de heavy metal pero hace un año cambiamos el concepto y
unimos el proyecto anterior con este y creando una fusión
entre rock y música clásica – dice Jesús.
Todos tienen vocación desde pequeños y a los 14 años
ya se dedicaban por completo a la música. – Tenía 4 años
cuando escuché rock por primera vez rock y 14 cuando me
«clavé» con Guns & Roses. Más tarde me interesé en Bach,
Mozart, Bethoven, sentí que era música poderosa y quise
tocar un instrumento clásico, me acerqué a la «Orquesta

Azteca» y cuando vi el chelo, me pareció tan elegante que
me enamoré, pero me mandaron al coro – suelta una carcajada- un mes después gracias a un amigo conseguí un lugar
en el contrabajo.
Para Jesús fue al revés, – Mi papá es músico y yo quería
ser como él. A los 14 años comencé a tocar el violín y con el
tiempo me fui interesando por el rock.
– Mis influencias musicales fueron el rock, metal, jazz
y ellos me obligaron a tocar música clásica – confiesa sonriendo Bred – Mi instrumento es la batería, pero cuando
formamos el grupo, de la nada comencé con el cajón, solo
tomé dos clases y con eso bastó –
Al preguntarles qué significa la música para ellos, es increíble escuchar una voz a coro: ¡todo! – Antes planeaba
hacer cosas muy diferentes, ahora solo me importa la música, quiero seguir aprendiendo, tenemos deseos de seguir
estudiando y especializarnos en composición – dice Jambi.
¿Qué sienten al tocar en un concierto? – Damos dos o tres
conciertos al día, todos son diferentes y los sentimientos
cambian con cada público. Cuando le pego con todas mis
fuerzas a los platos siento que me estoy quemando, ardo en
el infierno en el buen sentido, mis sentimientos se encuentran en una montaña rusa, suben y bajan, muy «chido»–.
Nos cuenta Bred.
¿Qué sucede cuando alguien les ofrece una propuesta
más comercial que supone abandonar sus creencias? – Recibimos una pero teníamos que cambiar nuestra imagen, el
nombre, más pop y no accedimos. Por ahora lo que hacemos
es arte– cuenta Jesús.
– El arte en México es poco valorado. En Playa aún es
muy joven, sobre todo en la música, los recursos siempre
han sido limitados y por ahora lo único que podemos hacer
es seguir tocando, y no dejarnos vencer– comenta Bred Queremos viajar, comprar una camioneta e irnos por todo
el país a tocar y divertirnos.
Debemos aprovechar cada oportunidad que se presente
para escuchar a Vina hell antes de que emigren y se lleven su
música a otros países. El próximo mes grabarán nuevo disco.

El arte salió a las calles para quedarse, al menos en las
bellas ciudades de playa del caribe mexicano.
Miradas, paisajes, conceptos, imágenes y hasta
poesía decoran hoy algunos de los muros de muchas
calles de los municipios de Quintana Roo y enamoran
a locales y turistas, que admiran libre y gratuitamente
verdaderas piezas de museo.
La inspiración, aseguran los artistas, es lo más fácil en el entorno mágico del caribe, el problema es «la
transpiración al trabajar bajo el sol tropical pero la recompensa para ellos y para todos nosotros, lo vale».

El arte mural está presente en México desde la época prehispánica, pasando por las manos de artistas maestros como
Diego Rivera, José Clemente Orozco o el iniciador del movimiento muralista en el país, Ramón Alba de la Canal. «La
relevancia que tiene el arte urbano se remonta desde que el
hombre comienza a manifestarse para contar su historia y
comunicarse por medio de espacios públicos. Como mexicana me enorgullece saber que nuestro país es precursor del
muralismo, lo cual significa que ha transmitido su legado
por generaciones en la sangre de artistas urbanos.» Explica
la veracruzana Marisol d´Estrabeau, graduada en Diseño
Gráfico y con sede actual en Cancún
Las obras fluyen y se mezclan no solo con el paisaje urbano, si no con la gente; y así pintura y observador se fusionan en una obra mayor que captan efímeramente nuestras
pupilas o quedan plasmadas y difundidas en redes globales
sociales que nos permiten compartir experiencias artísticas
completas hasta en los lugares más remotos.

«Es increíble la dinámica del mural; tener el contacto directo con el público cuando estás desarrollando el trabajo y
sentir cómo se vuelven partícipes de él», nos comparte Cristina Navarrete, pintora y arquitecta residente en Acapulco y
amante del Caribe Mexicano, a donde escapa para plasmar
su arte en las múltiples exposiciones que se llevan a cabo.
«Cuando el arte comenzó a salir a la calle dio oportunidad
de expresión a aquellos artistas que no podían hacerlo en
las galerías quienes pues se daban el lujo de seleccionar a los
artistas. El arte urbano es una manera de decir: Existimos,
estamos aquí y también hacemos arte».
Los lugares quedan marcados indeleblemente, se personalizan y logran una metamorfosis urbana que se genera
de manera natural, orgánica, colectiva, armónica. «El poder
del arte urbano es transformador donde el espacio se convierte en un momento de reflexión e inspiración, el espectador recrea su conciencia y su estado de ánimo.» Comenta
Marisol d´Estrabeau.

Son muchos los esfuerzos artísticos que se están haciendo
en materia de murales urbanos. Esta edición no es más que
un mínimo retrato de lo que hoy se gesta en toda la península de Yucatán.
Entre uno de los ejemplos más destacados se encuentra
el Proyecto wad (World Art Destination), liderado por Liz
Rashell, procedente de Acapulco pero cancunense desde
hace 11 años y egresada en Artes Visuales: «empezamos el
proyecto con la idea de llevar el arte a espacios abiertos en
toda la Riviera Maya con el fin de integrar iniciativas que
incrementen la demanda del ‘turismo de arte’ para construir
un nuevo segmento que aporte derrama económica al destino. Organizamos intervenciones urbanas a través de festivales como el fiap (Festival internacional de Arte público)
realizado en Holbox, Cancún y próximamente Mérida; Festival seawall o el fecuca (Festival Cultura del Caribe)».
A través de sus murales los artistas pretenden ser reflejo
de la sociedad a la que pertenecen, imprimiendo sus criterios y anhelos, mediante la expresión de sus sentimientos,
sueños y realidades: «Mi intención como muralista es transmitir algo que haga reflexionar a la gente de una forma sana,
aportando como artistas un grano de arena para hacer de
este mundo un lugar mejor. Una apuesta por la cultura y
el arte para alcanzar una evolución sana hacia una sociedad
más armoniosa, reflexiva y feliz» ,en palabras de León Alva,
maestro de profesión que llegó desde la ciudad de México a
Cancún donde disfruta plasmando su arte.
Sabemos que solo es el principio, pero queremos dejar
constancia de este génesis de arte urbano que hoy invita a
los artistas del mundo a seguir construyendo con su talento
esta gran obra de arte en permanente elaboración natural,
histórica y humana que es el Caribe Mexicano.

Art has come out to the streets and it is here to stay, at least
in the beautiful beach towns of the Mexican Caribbean.
Looks, landscapes, concepts, images and even poetry
decorate today some of the walls of many streets in the
municipalities of Quintana Roo, which seduce locals and
tourist alike, who admire freely and without any cost true
gallery pieces.
Finding inspiration, say the artists, is the easiest thing in
the magical setting of the Caribbean; the problem is «perspiration when working under the tropical sun, but the reward for them and for all of us is worth it».
Mural art is present in Mexico since prehispanic times
and later by the hand of master artists like Diego Rivera,
Jose Clemente Orozco, Siqueiros and Ramon Alba de la
Canal. «The relevance of urban art dates back to the time
began to show manifestations to tell his own history and
communicate through public spaces. As a Mexican I am
proud to know our country is one of the pioneers in mural painting, which means it has left behind in its blood a
legacy of urban artists.» Explains Veracruz’s Marisol d’Estrabeau, Graphic Design graduate who resides currently in
Cancun.
The pieces flow and blend not only with the urban
landscape but with the people; thus painting and observer,
merge into a larger work that our pupils can only glance

fleetingly or are captured and disseminated in the global
social networks that allow us to share complete artistic experiences even in the most remote places.
«Mural dynamics is amazing; to have direct contact
with the public when you are developing your work and
feel how they become partakers of it», shares with us Cristina Navarrete, architect and painter who resides in Acapulco and loves the Mexican Caribbean, where she escapes to
share her art in the many exhibitions held there. «When art
began to go out into the streets, it gave an opportunity of
expressing themselves to those artists who could not do it
in the art galleries that cherry-picked the artists they hosted.
Urban art was a way of saying «we exist, we are here and we
also do art».
The settings are indelibly marked; they are customized
and achieve a natural, organic, collective and harmonious
urban metamorphosis. «When you look at urban art its
power can transform you, and the space becomes into a
moment to reflect upon life and inspiration, the viewer recreates his conscience and his mood», says Marisol d´Estrabeau.
Great are the efforts being made in the field of urban
murals. This edition is no more than a small picture of what
is brewing today throughout the Yucatan Peninsula. Among
one of the most prominent examples is the wad Project
(World Art Destination), led by Liz Rashell, from Acapulco but cancunense since she was 11 years and graduated
in Visual Arts. «The goal of wad is to include initiatives
aimed at increasing the demand from the «Art Tourism»
to build a new segment that provides economic benefits to
the location. We organize urban interventions like the ipaf
(International Public Art Festival or fiap in spanish) held
in Holbox, Cancun and, coming soon, Merida; SEAWALL
or fecuca (Festival of Caribbean Culture) Festivals»
Through their murals the artists pretend to be a reflection of the society to which they belong, printing their
criteria and desire by expressing their feelings, dreams and
realities. «My intention is to convey something that will
make people think in a healthy way, doing our small part as
artists to make this world a better place. Betting on culture

Pocos saben que además de la música, una de las pasiones
de Denisse De Kalafe es la cocina. «¡Adoro cocinar! Es una
herencia de mi madre que era una gran cocinera, así que
estoy muy acostumbrada a la cultura de la cocina», explica.
Radicada desde hace 16 años en Holbox, y como Presidenta
de la Asociación de Restaurantes de la isla, decidió echar
mano de ese amor para crear un festival gastronómico que
también fuera un pretexto para que las autoridades federales
voltearan a esta isla del norte de Quintana Roo y establecieran sistemas de desagüe, programas de recuperación de
playas, alumbrados renovables y crearan un programa de
manejo de residuos sólidos. Es decir, a través de la cultura,
transformar a Holbox en una isla modelo en sustentabilidad
y cuidado del medio ambiente.

Hace unos meses, esta iniciativa llegó a su cuarta edición
bajo el slogan: Comer, amar y contemplar, y contó con una
afluencia de aproximadamente 1,200 visitantes diarios que
disfrutaron de un amplio programa musical, las propuestas
de 14 restaurantes, degustaciones de vino y de la cocina de
Chihuahua, que fue el estado invitado. La propia Denisse
de Kalafe participó ofreciendo el tradicional pan de queso,
que es una de las delicias de la cocina brasileña. «La gastronomía es un acto de amor. Cocinarle a alguien es como
decirle: te amo. Es como componer, de la nada tomas una
serie de ideas y sentimientos, y creas una canción», insiste.
Tras cuatro años de duro trabajo, el Festival Gastronómico
de Holbox no sólo se ha convertido en un escaparate de la
cocina mexicana para los miles de turistas que año con año
visitan este destino, sino un factor de desarrollo económico.
«En el pasado, - explica el presidente municipal de Lázaro
Cárdenas, Luciano Sima Cab – el cien por ciento de la población local se dedicaba a la pesca y hoy el 80 por ciento
labora en actividades relacionadas al turismo. Tenemos una
ocupación hotelera del 100%, lo que prácticamente ha terminado con la temporada baja».
El proyecto personal y profesional de Denisse De Kalafe
tiene su sede en Holbox e invierte su tiempo, esfuerzo e
ilusión para conseguir que sea un mejor lugar para vivir,
una Isla modelo.

través de la cultura y de la educación. Si apostamos por ello
podemos generar un cambio radical»

Emmanuel Lubezki did it again. The cinematographer
won his third consecutive Oscar for Best Picture thanks
to his artistic work in «The Revenant»; with his stunning
shots, using only 3 hours of natural light a day in low temperatures at Canada and Argentina, he defeated films such
as «Carol», «The Hateful Eight», «Sicario», «The Big Short»,
«bridge of Spies», «Brooklyn», «Mad Max: Fury Road»,
«The Martian», «The Revenant», «Room» and «Spotlight»
The Director of Photography, or Cinematographer, is responsible for bringing to life and to our eyes everything
the film director wants to convey. It is the main piece in
the puzzle of a film. A bad cinematography can mean the
difference between achieving glory and going bankrupt.

Emmanuel Lubezki Morgenstern was born in Mexico
City in 1964; he studied history and cinematography at
the UNAM. «El Chivo», as he is nicknamed and known
commonly, owns a unique style that he has perfected over
the years and has earned him from his beginnings the best
reviews.
Despite he has lived for over 30 years in the United
States, «El Chivo» remains Mexican and we must be proud
of that, although he does not owe any of his achievements
to Mexico. It is a shame most of our bright minds have to
look for opportunities outside of the country to be able to
achieve true success.

Life», finally two years ago he won his first golden statuette
thanks to «Gravity», then again last year for his work in
«Birdman» and, in this last occasion, with «The Revenant».
Lubezki has worked with directors such as Tim Burton, Michael Mann, Alejandro Gonzalez Iñárritu, the Coen brothers, Terrence Malick and Alfonso Cuaron.
His career has been full of other awards though. In
1992 he won an Ariel for «Como Agua Para Chocolate»
(Like Water for Chocolate), and the two following years
he continued winning the Ariel for his work in the films
«Miroslava» and «Ambar», and then, in 2001, he made «Y
tu mama también». Then he went on to win two BAFTAs:
one for «Children of Men» in 2006 and another for «Gravity» in 2014. Additionally, he has won four times the American Society of Cinematographers Award for Outstanding
Achievement in Cinematography in Theatrical Releases
(asc Award).
Upon receiving his last statuette, Lubezki thanked his
«compadre» (buddy,) Alejandro Gonzalez Iñárritu, as well
as family and friends. «I want to share this with my director,
with Leo, with our producers for all of the freedom». Iñárritu appeared very touched to see his fellow countryman take
the stage for the third time to receive the Academy Award.
Now we are looking forward with great excitement for
his next art work to delight our eyes and, maybe, make history one more time in the next installment of the Oscars.

«I’m not an artist; I’m just a creative person». This is how
Jose Luis defines himself; Venezuelan by birth he has resided in Playa del Carmen for 14 years.
The birth of an artist: - At age 12 I realized I wanted
to be a sculptor, with a piece of stone, a chisel and a knife
I sculpted the faces of Jesus, Simon Bolivar and the Virgin
Mary between two hands, a rudimentary and rough sculpture, with offers to buy [but] my mother jealously will not
part from it – tells Jose.
We all have an artistic influence, someone whom we
honor, - As we say in Venezuela, «I was stuck» in the Renaissance. I love Michelangelo and I admire Antonio Canova’s
technique.
What is art to you? – The definition of art is to be able
to hear and be heard through your work, the feeling of expressing, of transmitting feeling, of learning through what
you're watching. In my case sculpting is a necessity, a vice

For many, buying art gives them the ability to appreciate their favorite piece of art every day, for others it’s a
type of investment, but what do we know about ephemeral

art? – Nowadays, art finds itself in this economic conflict in
the world, its value is set depending on who likes it; when
I work on the beach, I transform the sand, if any sculpture
breaks I just water it again and make another, it is completely recyclable, I need to transform matter and with an
inert material, such as sand, you can give it life, that’s the
beauty of ephemeral art. – One of the most beautiful things
I’ve learned while sculpting is humility. I toured 32 countries, with an album, backpack and shovel, experiences that
no one can take from me and that a credit card can’t buy.
– Jose shares with pride.
He likes to watch people when they are looking at his
work. – Just knowing they leave their problems behind at
least for an instant, that’s what it leaves in me, it’s that feeling fills you, no matter the sun, the rain, fasting, you’re
doing what you love and I look for that, the need to express
myself, to make someone feel that «something», watching
a child gather sand next to my sculpture to try to replicate
it, that’s where the children’s workshops idea came from,
I teach them and they teach me, I learn marvelous things
from them every day. – He says.
It’s surprising how he can’t stop telling beautiful anecdotes after two and a half hours, and with each story comes
a new idea for something to do for this city. Listening to
what he proposes surrounds us with beauty and culture.
– Fill a city with art and it will be a city that can change
you, raise your child into any artistic aspect and I guarantee you that will be a child that will not pick up a gun in
his/her lifetime, his/her life will revolve around feelings and
thought. Mexico’s error is to not give spaces for artists to express themselves, they are not given the necessary support,
I want to make out of Playa a culturally artistic city. I will
work in hospitality a couple more years, hoping that later
awareness that ephemeral art is something positive for the
community comes and be able to make a show, convincing them to lend me the beach; because they say the sand
wears away (it’s worth noting that only sand and seawater
are used). I would like to invite Benjamin Probanza this
year, the second best sculptor in the world, to make an exhibition of ephemeral art, but if you do not help me with the
resources necessary, I cannot do it alone. – concluded Jose.
Last year he organized the Art Festival (Festival de Arte)
in Puerto Morelos and this year he has not lost hope yet
that it can be done again in July. A creative mind and filled
with projects, [he is] a genius and an art seducer. His hands,
soul and mind are synchronized to sculpt the world with a
more artistic vision of it.

y despertar en Selvamar. He tenido el enorme privilegio
de capturar con mi cámara los amaneceres turquesa más

con nubes de borrego y forman la fotografía perfecta con
un mar de palmeras a lo lejos, rodeado de selva tropical y
acompañado del vuelo de las aves.
Un cambio de residencia siempre es una decisión importante de vida: cuando llegué a Selvamar, no sólo había
cambiado de casa, sino de ciudad. Dejé atrás Guadalajara
con cierta nostalgia, que rápidamente se convirtió en alegría: en tener una mejor calidad de vida al encontrar todas
las mañanas a personas sonrientes caminando, a vecinos
ejercitándose, a familias cuidando de sus mascotas y siempre saludando con un «buenos días», mientras que por la
noche, tengo el silencio más reconfortante, guardias que se
convierten en personas que estimo por cuidar de mi bienestar y un bonito cielo estrellado libre de contaminación que
es mi mejor modelo. Son esos detalles que hacen la vida
más bonita.
Para mi es un privilegio poder disfrutar en Selvamar de
la naturaleza en su estado más puro y de todas las amenidades que los residentes tenemos a nuestra disposición en
las increíbles áreas de uso común, como albercas, asadores,
palapas para reuniones, exuberantes jardines o juegos para

y eso se transmite a sus habitantes que, como yo, la perciben
y aprovechan al máximo para cada día al despertar, llenarse
de ella y comenzar la rutina de una manera diferente: felices

The People of the Corn or Kaajixi’im is one of the best
attraction in Cozumel, a place to live a Mayan experience,
a journey back in time where music, dance and a prehispanic people will lead you by the hand. It’s a tour and a
play at the same time, where the story of the beginning of
times is narrated, and you will become a part of it. In the
time when Itzamná, father of the gods, ruled the cosmos…;
thus begins the legend of the People of the Corn, a story
told by the holy twins Xbalam-ké and Hunab-Kú, who will
welcome you in Itzamná’s own court to begin the journey.
The twins will guide your journey through the Mayan
jungle from the underworld, where the first corn seeds
where harvested to be presented to the great sages for the
creation of humankind, and would be delivered later to become the basis of their diet.
During this tour, you will make a stop at a chicle camp
to show you the process «chicleado» (gum extraction) from

the great tree of the «chicozapote» (sapodilla or chicle tree)
to prepare the natural chicle (gum) or sikte that will accompany you in your long trip to the temple of Ixchel to
ask and pray for the fertility of the earth that will allow the
flowering of the People of the Corn.
Once the offerings have been delivered the Xaman
will purify the visitors to grant them access to the town of
the People of the Corn, where you will be received with a
Dance and welcome ceremony. The Owl, guardian of the
underworld, will perform the Dance of Fire, dedicated to
the venerable Sun. The drums, symbol of the heartbeat, will
join all in one in this ceremony full of mysticism where the
music, dance, and the copal will elevate the senses of the
spectators.
Experience a chicle camp, revive the journey to Cozumel to honor the goddess Ixchel and participate in sundry
workshops and tastings where you will experience the life
of the residents. Each palapa will receive you with unique
activities dedicated to the hallowed lord of the corn, to the
deity of the honey bee, the venerable lord of cocoa and to
the sisal.
You will be able to share the inheritance of body painting,
making your face or body a perfect canvas. The costumes
are stunning; they will leave you with your mouth open.

Desde hace 15 años residen en Playa y de la nostalgia de lo
caribeño, lo tradicional, de la playa que conocieron, de crear
algo diferente, y de lo complejo que puede ser la cultura culinaria mexicana, nació La Perla. Viajaron por todo México
para captar lo esencial de cada lugar, visitando comunidades
indígenas, para aprender y conocer los productos, recetas y
procedimientos originales. La cocina del alma, es el significado de Pixan Cuisine, con ese nombre solo nos queda
suspirar y saborear lo que nos ponen en frente. Si quieres
conocer el verdadero sabor de México, tienes que probar
la especialidad de la casa, la tlayuda, un plato prehispánico, que combina tradición, color y sabor, tortillas hechas a
mano, escamoles, chapulines y chimicuiles, en ningún otro
lugar los encontrarás, y si quieres algo aún más tradicional
no te puedes perder el Huauzontle capeado con queso oaxaca y cubierto en salsa de chile pasilla o el pulpo a la parrilla,
que por algo son los favoritos de Giovanna y Alberto.
En octubre del año pasado sufrieron un incendio que arrasó con todo, pero la ilusión de levantar el lugar fue mayor
y el 20 de diciembre reabrieron sus puertas. – Queremos
agradecer a toda la gente que nos ha seguido y apoyado en
los buenos y malos momentos, tantas muestras de gratitud,
todas las manos que colaboraron para que renaciera este
proyecto, no se nos olvidará nunca que todos se pusieron

La Perla Pixan es un homenaje a México, a Playa del
Carmen, con sus colores, sabores y texturas, a través del cual
sus propietarios pretenden devolver un poco de lo mucho
