Copyright (c) J. S. Paluch Co. MANIFESTING THE SPIRIT The Christmas season closes this Sunday with the Baptism of the Lord. This feast is a sister to last week's feast of the Epiphany. Each of them celebrates an "epiphany," or a manifestation of the Spirit of God in Jesus--first in his birth, and now at his baptism. The divine Spirit is manifested in all of the scriptures for this feast. Psalm 104 highlights the Spirit of God creating and renewing the earth, while the reading from Isaiah describes God restoring Israel. In Luke's account of the baptism of the Lord the Holy Spirit descends upon Jesus. And the letter to Titus reminds us that the Holy Spirit was "richly poured out" on us also, through the "bath of rebirth" (Titus 3:5, 6). -- Tito 3:5 TOGETHER IN MISSION 2016 UNIDOS EN MISIÓN 2016 January 16-17 – Announcement Weekend January 23-24 – Commitment Weekend February 7-8 – Follow Up Weekend Enero 16-17 – Fin de Semana de Anuncio Enero 23-24 – Fin de Semana de Compromiso Febrero 7-8 – Fin de Semana de Seguimiento Parish Goal: $31,400.00 Meta Parroquial: $31,400.00 MLK PRAYER BREAKFAST AACCFE is hosting the MLK Prayer Breakfast on Saturday, January 16, 2016, from 8:00 AM - 11:00 AM. The internet is a great place to meet people, but these meetings come with potential dangers that can put kids and teens at risk. You don’t know who you’re really talking to online. Pay attention to the sites your kids on computers and mobile devices. Monitor the sites that they visit and ask questions about who they talk to and what information they provide to their online friends. ELECTRIC CANDLE RACKS During the next several weeks, you will notice a new addition in our church. We will install new electronic devotional candle racks in the side chapel of the Statue of Sacred Heart. Many of our parishioners have expressed a desire to have the candles for devotional purposes. We choose electric over wax or petroleum based candles for very good reasons. Burning open flame candles are a health hazard and result in smoke damage and discoloration of the interior of the church. Also in many instances Insurance Companies are adding hefty premiums to any location burning open flame candles. The new electronic candles are very traditional in appearance and the symbolism behind the electric candle remains the same. The Smartlite Candles are designed with the latest microchip technology and are very simple to use---Just press the top of the candle cover and the candle lights. This new technology allows the candles to operate in both VOTIVE and MEMORIAL. The VOTIVE mode is the normal function of lighting a candle for a specified time while the MEMORIAL mode is an extended time period. MEMORIAL candles are offered in memory of a deceased beloved or simply dedicated on behalf of a family or as a special thanksgiving. A memorial plaque is inscribed on the candle cover to indicate the purpose. Parishioners can purchase a MEMORIAL candle on an annual basis, 5 year or 10 year time frame or as an eternal flame. For inquiries, please contact our Pastor at (626) 794-2046 x 335. TURNING THE TIDE When everything goes against you, till it seems as though you could not hold on a minute longer, never give up then, for that is just the place and time that the tide will turn. --Harriet Beecher Stowe “TUESDAYS’ TALK SHOW” In the spirit of the Jubilee Year of Mercy, our Parish Evangelization Team invites everyone to join us in a series of “Talk Show” about different topics relating to mercy and compassion as outlined by the Holy Father, Pope Francis I.
