CENTRO HISTORICO o rer RUTAS eb F e 5d SUGERIDAS Av. Ven tu i el ar Ruta / Route 1 1.- Catedral Majestuoso edificio, su construcción se inició en 1660 y cloncluyó en 1744. Construida de cantera rosa, estilo barroco tablerado, en su interior predomina la ornamentación de estilo dórico y posee relieves neoclásicos. Entre los tesoros que guarda en su interior, están el manifestador de plata, estilo neoclásico, la pila bautismal de plata, estilo neoclásico, ambos del siglo XVIII. El monumental órgano consta de 4,600 flautas o voces, fué agregado a principios del siglo XX. También la imagen del Señor de la Sacristía, realizada con pasta de caña en el siglo XVI. 1.- Cathedral Construction began on this massive edifice in 1660 and was finally complete in 1744. The cathedral was built whit rose colored quarry stone and models baroque paneling and a doric style interior. The relief carvings inside are neoclassical in style. Among the many treasures inside the cathedral are a silver baroque showcase and a silver neoclassical baptismal front, both 18th century. The monumental organ whit its 4,600 pipes is a recent addition from early in the 20 th century. The 16th century Lord of the Sacristy is made from dried maize paste. 2.- Plaza de Armas o de los Mártires Hermosa plaza trazada y construida por los españoles entre 1541 y 1546 para orientar el trazo de la futura ciudad de Valladolid. Es el sitio de esparcimiento más antiguo de la ciudad. 2.-Weapons Plaza or Plaza of the Martyrs This beatiful plaza was designed and built by the Spanish between 1541 and 1546 to outline the future city of Valladolid on a grid pattern. It is the oldest recreational space in the city. 3.- Centro Cultural Universitario Edificio contemporáneo, construido para la difusión del arte y la cultura. Los horarios de visita son de Lunes a Sábado de 10:00 a.m. a 2:00 p.m. y de 4:00 p.m a 8:00 p.m. 3.- University Cultural Center This is a modern building, built to provide a space for the promotion of the arts and culture. Open Monday to Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. and from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. 4.- Casa de Mariano Michelena Construcción de estilo neoclásico iniciada en 1690, perteneció al Canónigo de Belauzarán.En 1826 fue residencia de Mariano Michelena, quien después la legó a la beneficencia pública del estado. En ella vivió Hidalgo en 1810. 4.-Home of Mariano Michelena This neo-cassical building was erected in 1690 and beloged to the Canonic of Belauzarán. In 1826 it became the residence of Mariano Michelena, who later willed it to the state for public benefit. Hidalgo lived here in 1810. 5.- Templo de la Merced La construcción de este templo se inició en 1604 para la Orden de los Mercedarios. Éste es de estilo barroco con elementos platerescos ornamentados. Posteriormente el monasterio se convirtió en escuela . 5.- Temple of Merced The construction of this church began in 1604 by the Order of Mercedarios. It is a baroque style whith ornate plateresque decorative elements. The monastery later became a school. 6.-Palacio Municipal Edificio de estilo barroco, se inició su construcción a finales del siglo XVIII. Su impresionante patio octogonal es una joya de la arquitectura moreliana. Originalmente fue almacén de tabaco, para el control y venta del mismo. Desde 1859 es sede del Palacio Municipal. 6.- Municipal Palace The construction of this baroque style building began in the late 18th century. Its impressive octagonal patio is a jewel of morelian architecture. Originally it was a warehouse for the control and sale of tabacco. It has been the Municipal Palace since 1859. 7.- Museo Reginonal Michoacano Isidro Huarte adquirió esta construcción de estilo barroco en 1772, posteriormente la reconstruyó para convertirla en residencia particular y de negocios. Después, la casa fue propiedad de Doña Francisca Román, dama de honor de la empreratriz Carlota. Esto durante el imperio de Maximiliano de Habsburgo. 7.- Michoacán Regional Museum Isidro Huarte bought this baroque style building in 1762, then rebuilt it to serve as his private residence and place of business. later the house became the property of Mrs Francisca Roman, lady in waitting of the empress Carlota. It was there that the Empror Maximiliano from Habsburgo. 8.- Palacio de Justicia Este edificio alberga el Departamento de Estado de Michoacán Judicial desde que fue construido entre 1884 y 1885. Bello edificio de fachada afrancesada e interior eclético. En la segunda planta posee elementos decorativos de influencia prehispánica. 8.-Palace of Justice This building has housed the Judicial Department of the State of michoacán since it was built between 1884 and 1885. it is a beatiful construction with a French style facade and an ecletic interior. there are interesting pre-hipanic decorative elements on the second floor. 9.- Antigua Alhóndiga Construido en 1774, edificio de estilo barroco, funcionó el depósito de trigo de la ciudad. En 1847 se acondicionó como tribunal. Actualmente forma parte del Palacio de Justicia, albergando los juzgados Civiles del Estado. 9.- Old Plublic Granary Built in 1774, this baroque building was the city´s wheat depository. It was reconditioned in 1847 to accommodate the tribunal. Today it is part of the Palace of Justice where the Civil State Judges meet. 10.- Templo de San Agustin Esta casa de culto data del siglo XVI. Su fachada es de estilo plateresco tardío y su claustro refleja un refinado sentido digno. La torre fue construida a principios del siglo XVII. La iglesia tiene la Sagrada Virgen del Socorro, un regalo de Santo Tomás de Villanueva. 10.- Augustine Church This house of worship dates from the 16th century. It facade is late plateresque style and its cloister reflects a refined sense of dignity. the tower was built in the early 17th century. The church holds the Sacred Virgin of Socorro, a gift from Saint Thomas of Villanueva. 11.- Casa Natal de Morelos José María Morelos y Pavón nació en este sitio el 30 de septiembre de 1765; uno de los héroes de la Independencia mexicana, bella casa de estilo barroco e interior y fachada neoclásicos. La casa original donde nació ya no existe, fue demolida en 1888 y solo se puede ver en antiguas litografías. Actualmente la construcción es de finales del siglo XIX, se remodeló y acondicionó para uso cultural en 1964. 11.Morelos´s Birth Place José María Morelos y Pavón, one of the heroes of the mexican Independence, was born on the site of this beatiful baroque style house with its neo-classical interior and facade on September 30th 1765. The original house in which he was born was demolisted in 1888 and can only be seen in antique lithographs. The present day building is from the late 19th century, it was remodeled and reconditioned for cultural purposes in 1964. 12.- Museo Casa de Morelos José María Morelos la adquirio en 1801, construida en 1758. Hoy en día esta hermosa y digna mansión de estilo barroco funciona como museo, contiene pinturas, fotografías, muebles, objetos de la época y facsimilares de documentos, que ilustran la vida preinsurgente de Morelos como lider en el movimiento de independencia. El museo también guarda el Archivo del Arzobispado de Michoacán. 12.- Morelos`s House José María Morelos y Pavón acquired this home, built in 1758, in 1801. Today this lovely and dignified baroque mansion is a museum containing paintings, photographs, furniture, period pieces and copies of documents that help to illustrate the life Morelos prior to his becoming a leader of the independence movement. The archives of the archbishop of Michoacán are also located here. Ruta / Route 4 34.- Antiguo Hospital de los Juaninos Grandioso edificio donde se conjugaban los estilos barroco, eclético y neoclásico. Fué construido en 1685 como casa episcopal. A principio del siglo XVIII albergó el hospital de San Juan de Dios. 34.-Former Hospital of the Juaninos Baroque, ecletic and neo-clasical styles are combined in this magnificent building, built in 1685 as an Episcopal house. It became the Hospital of San Juan de Dios, aerly in the 18th century. 35.- Templo de la Cruz Construcción ordenada por el Padre Nicolás de la Serna entre 1680 y 1690. Construcción hermosa de notable sencillez. La fachada fue agregada en 1970. 35.- Temple of the Croos Father Nicolás de la Serna ordered the constriction of this beatiful, yet simple chapel between 1680 and 1690. The facade was added in 1970. 36.-Iglesia y Ex-convento de San Francisco Construcción iniciada por los franciscanos en 1531, de complejo estilo plateresco. Este fue el primer convento establecido en Valladolid. Actualmente es la Casa de las Artesanias de Michoacán, se exhiben para venta colecciones de diferentes técnicas artesanales del estado. 36.- Church and Ex-convent of San Francisco The Franciscan began the construction of this plateresque style complex in 1531. This was the first convent established in Valladolid. Today the Artisan Museum of Michoacán, is located here and all the diferent styles of crafts produced in the state are on exhibit and for sale. 37.- Templo de Capuchinas De estilo barroco, inició su edificación en 1680 y concluyó en 1737. Se construyó para alojar a las doncellas indigenas hijas de caciques y las monjas Capuchinas. Un incendio consumió el altar principal y solamente se conservaron tres retablos barrocos. 37.-Church of Capuchinas Of baroque styles, it initialed his construction in 1680 and it concluded in 1737. It was construted to lodge to the indian maids daughters of caciques and the Capucin nuns. A fire consumend the greater altar and three baroque altarpieces are only conserved. Ruta / Route 2 Ruta / Route 3 13.- Colegio de san Nicolás de Hidalgo Edificio de estilo neoclásico. Sede en Valladolid del Colegio de San Nicolás, fundado por Vasco de Quiroga en el siglo XVI en Pátzcuaro. En este colegio fue rector Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, y alumno sobresaliente José María Morelos y Pavón. En la planta alta del edificio, se localiza la sala Melchor Ocampo 13.- San Nicolás de Hidalgo School the neoclassic building was the Valladolid campus of the school of Saint Nicolás, wich was founded by Vasco de Quiroga in the 16th century in Pátzcuaro. Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla was one of the school´s rectors. One of its mast famous students was José María Morelos y Pavón. The Melchor Ocampo room is located on the upper floor. 22.-Museo de Arte Colonial Pequeño pero notable museo ubicado en una casa del siglo XVIII, la cual aún conserva su original estilo barroco. En este sitio se estableció la primera imprenta de la ciudad en 1821. Actualmente este museo exhibe obras del virreinato y Cristos de pasta de caña de maiz de la epoca de la evangelización. 22.- Museum of Colonial Art Small but remarkable located in a house of the 18th century, which still conserves its original baroque style. In this site the first press of the city in 1821 settled down. At the moment this museum exhibits works of viceroyalty and Christs of graze of maize cane of the time of evangelisation. 14.- Biblioteca Pública Construcción de estilo barroco del siglo XVII, originalmente fue templo de la Compañía de Jesús. Más tarde tuvo múltiples usos hasta 1930, cuando se instalo la Biblioteca Pública de la Universidad Michoacana de San Nicolás de Hidalgo. 14.- Public Library This baroque building dating from the 17th century, was originally the Church of the Fellowship of Jesus. It had a variety of functions over the years until 1930 when the Public Library of the University of Michoacán of San Nicolás de Hidalgo was installed here. 23.- Palacio de Gobierno De estilo barroco, construidó entre 1760 y 1770. Originalmente fué el Seminario Tridentino de Valladolid. Désde 1867 es sede del Poder Ejecutivo del Estado. Posee tres murales del artista michoacano Alfredo Zalce, que plasmán diversos episodios de la historia de México. 23.- Government Palace This baroque building was built between 1760 and 1770. it´s original funtion was as the Tridente Seminary of Valladolid. In 1867 it became the Seat of the State Govenment. There are three murals here painted by michoacan artis Alfredo Zalce, which portray diferent periods in the history of México. 15.- Mercado de Dulces y Artesanías Localizado en el lado poniente de lo que fue el Colegio de los Jesuitas, se puede encontrar ahí todo tipo de dulce regionales, así como bellas y diversas artesanías. 15.- Market of Candies and Crafts Located en the side the west than it was the School oj the Jesuits, all type of regional, as well as beatiful candies and diverse crafts can be found there. 16.- Palacio Clavijero Majestuosa edificación de estilo barroco que data de mediados del siglo XVI. Originalmente fué sede del Colegio Jesuita de San francisco Javier, función que desempeñó hasta 1767. Posteriormente fue correcional para sacerdotes y en 1824 se intaló el Congreso de Michoacán. Es uno de los monumentos aquitectónicos más importantes de la ciudad. 16.- Palace of Clavijero Mejestic construction of baroque style that dates from half-full from 16th century. originally Jesuit of San Francisco Javier, soothes of the School, function that performance until 1767. Entre 1974 y 1979 el antiguo convento se restauró y acondicionó como Casa de la Cultura de Morelia, albergando talleres atísticos, salas de exposiciones, auditorios y se instaló el Museo de la Máscara. 24 and 25.- The Church an Ex-convent of Carmen Construction began on this monumental baroque structure in 1593 and continued through the 17th, 18th and 19th cenruries. Valuable works of art hang in the sacristy. The former convent was restored and reconditioned between 1974 and 1979 and now serves as the Michoacan Cultural Center housing art-related workshops, exhibition halss, auditoriums and the mask Museum. 17 y 18.- Templo y Conservatorio de Música de las Rosas El templo de Santa Rosa de estilo barroco y el edificio anexo donde funcionó el Colegio de Santa María, datan del siglo XVIII. Desde 1738 y hasta su clausura en el siglo XIX fue colegio de niñas. A fines de 1940 se instaló la Escuela de Música que funciona hasta la fecha y es sede del internacionalmente famoso Coro de los Niños Cantores de Morelia. 17 and 18.- Temple and Conservatory of Music of the Roses From baroque style, the temple of Santa Rosa and the building annex where the Schoool of Santa María worked, date from 18th century. From 1738 until its closure in the 19th century was girls' school. Actualmente lo ocupa la preparatoria “Pascual Ortiz Rubio” 27.-New Tridentine Seminary Built in the middle of the 19th century, this neo-classical structure was a seminary. today it functions as the Pascual Ortiz Rubio High School. 19.- Museo del Estado Casona del siglo XVIII, restaurada para instalar el Museo del Estado en 1986. Consta de tres secciones: Arqueología, Historia y Etnología. En él se ubica una antigua farmacia que data de 1868. 19.- Museum of the State Large house of 18th century recovered to install the Museum of the State in 1986. Desdes principios de 1935 es recinto de oficinas del Gobierno Federal. 28.- Federal Government Palace This building constructed in frech style Eclectic, dates from the 18th century. First it was a Catarinas convent and then in the 19th century it housed the Theresian School of Santa María of Guadalupe. Federal government offices moved into the building in 1935 where they remain today. 20.- Sanatorio del Sagrado Corazón De estilo barroco, data de 1756, destinándolo a cárcel correccional. Aqui estuvieron presos Mariano Matamoros y José Guadalupe Santos, héroes de la independencia de México. 20.- Sanatorium of the Sacred Heart From baroque style, It dates from 1756, destining it to reformatory jail. There Mariano Matamoros and José Guadalupe Santos were imprisoned, heroes of the independence of México. 29.- Templo de las Monjas Edificio barroco construido entre 1729 y 1737, dedicado a Santa Catalina de Siena. La ciudad lo llamó de Las Monjas ya que perteneció a la orden de las Catarinas. 29.- Temple of the Nuns Baroque building constructed between 1729 and 1737, dedicated to Santa Catherine de Siena. De estilo barroco, inició su construcción a principios del siglo XVII por orden del entonces Obispo José Escalona y Calatayud. Anzorena Edificio afrancesado, adquirido a finales del siglo XVIII, por el intendente José Ma. Anzorena, quien frimó el primer decreto de abolición de la esclavitud en 1810. Fue restaurada en 1897. Desde 1922 a la fecha alberga oficinas del Poder Legislativo. 31.-Old House of the Intendant José Ma. Anzorena Frenchified, acquired building at the end of 18th century, by Intendant José Ma. Utilizados como oficinas y almacenes del diezmo aportado por los feligreses. Pronto fue vendido y adaptado como posada, déspues como hotel. Actualmente funciona como banco. 32.-Old House of the Tithe (Banamex) Baroque building constructed by the bishopric in in 1750. At the moment it works like bank. 33.- Antigua Casa de Gabriel garcía Obeso (Bancomer) De estilo neoclásico en su fachada y barroco en su interior, data de la segunda mitad del siglo XVIII. Aquí se llevaron a cabo las primeras runiones de los conspiradores que buscaban la independencia del país. 33.-Old House of Gabriel García Obeso (Bancomer) From neoclassical style in his baroque facade and in his interior, it dates of second half 18th century. Ruta / Route 5 38.- Jardín Villalongín Este hermoso jardín nos recuerda la vida tranquila de épocas pasadas. Debe su nombre al insurgente Manuel Villalongín que rescató a su esposa, prisionera por los españoles de la cárcel de las Ánimas, que se encontraba en este jardín. 38.- Garden Villalongín This lovely garden evokes the peaceful life on the past. The garden is named in honor of the insurgent Manuel Villalongín, who recued his wife who was being held prisioner by the spanish en Las Ánimas Prison, wich was in the garden. 39.- Fuente de las Tarascas Considerada en uno de los monumentos más representativos de la ciudad. Ubicada frente al Jardin Villalongín, representa a tres mujeres indígenas que sostienen una batea típica con frutos de la región. 39.- The Tarascan Fountain Thi fountain has become one of the most representative minuments in the city. It is front of garden Villalongín and represents three indigenous women holding a large tray of regional fruits above their heads. 40.- Acueducto Su construcción fue ordenada por el obispo Fray Antonio de San Miguel en 1785, para proveer de agua potable a la ciudad y dar empleo a los indigenas. Consta de 253 arcos de estilo barroco. 40.-Aqueduct Bishop Friar Antonio de San Miguel ordered the construction of this aqueduct en 1785. It brought potable water into the city and provided work for indigenous laborers. It has 253 arches and is baroque in style. 41.- Calzada Fray Antonio de San Miguel Construida en 1732 por el Obispo Juan Escalona y Calatayud, restaurada posteriormente por Fray Antonio de San Miguel. Rodeada de hermosas casonas de los siglos XVIII y XIX. 41.- Friar Antonio de San miguel Pedestrian Street Bishop Juan José Escalona y Calatayud built this pedestrian street and it was later restored by Friar Antonio de San Miguel. Lovely 18th and 19th century summer mansions flank the pedestrian street. 42 y 43.- Santuario de Guadalupe y Ex-convento de San Diego Se construyó entre 1708 y 1716. su portal es de estilo barroco, Joaquin Orta decoró el interior en 1915. El monasterio de la Orden de los Dieguinos se construyo posterior al templo, hoy alberga la Escuela de Derecho de la UMSNH. 42 and 43.- Sanctuary of guadalupe and Ex.convent of San Diego The Sanctuary of Guadalupe was built between 1708 and 1716, its portal is barroque. Joaquin Orta decored the interior of the church in 1915.
