David Murray prepared a special project for
Jazz Middelheim 2009, he plays Nat King Cole
‘en Español’, a tribute to the Spanish repertoire
of Nat King Cole. It is always a risk to bring
together three worlds on one stage: the roots
of black tradition and jazz, the Cuban Jazz en
the classical string section of the filharmonic.
With beautiful arrangements, Murray succeeds
in bringing to life the mood of the 50’s. With a
sometimes yelling saxophone - that replaces the
vocals that everyone knows - the performance
gets a contemporary and surprising sound. A
very festive closing act for Jazz Middelheim
2009.
