During the 2​nd​ 6 weeks, we will focus on the following skills, which will be assessed at the end of
the grading period. Listed below are the skills that will be developed and some activities that
you might like to do at home with your child to reinforce these concepts.
Language Arts
Phonics
Identifies upper and lower case letter names
Activity​: Using a set of flash cards, have your child identify the letter names. (Mix-up the order of the cards)
Handwriting
Forms upper and lower case letters legibly
Activity:​ Have your child practice writing their letters using shaving cream, markers, sand, etc.
Reading
Identifies elements of a story including setting, character, and key events.
Activity​: When reading to your child, pause and ask them to name the characters, tell where the story took place,
and name the key events in the story.
​Social Studies
Identifies important symbols, customs, and responsibilities that represent American beliefs and principles.
Activity​: Help your child identify the U.S. and Texas flags, recite the Pledge of Allegiance to the U.S. and Texas
flag, and discuss with your child what voting means and the impact it has on our society.
Understand how historical figures, patriots, and good citizens help shape the community, state, and nation.
Activity​: Discuss what makes a good citizen.
​Math
Recognize and describe shapes including: circle, triangle, rectangle and square as a special rectangle.
Activity:​ Be a “shape detective” and look for basic shapes around your house in real life objects such as a circle is
found in a clock.
Identifies 3 dimensional figures: sphere, cone, cylinder, and cube
Activity​: Find and name real objects that depict these shapes such as balls, ice cream cones, cans or paper towel
tubes, and dice or boxes.
Science
Energy, force and motion: Observe ways that objects can move such as in a straight line, zigzag, up & down, back &
forth, round & round and fast & slow.
Activity​: Discuss with your child how different objects move such as see saws, tops, swings, balls, etc.
Explore interaction between magnets and various materials
Activity:​ Let your child explore magnets by testing different items to discover if it attracts or repels.
Explore different forms of energy such as light, heat, and sound.
Activity: Use a flashlight and different surfaces, to see how the reflection of light differs. Have your child rub
their hands and/or feet together to produce heat. Fill glasses with water at different levels and tap a spoon it to
hear the difference in tones.

Keller ISD
Durante las segundas seis semanas, nos concentraremos en las siguientes destrezas las cuales serán evaluadas al
final del período de calificación. A continuación se mencionarán las destrezas que se desarrollarán y algunas
actividades que tal vez a usted le gustaría hacer con su hijo/a en la casa para reforzar los conceptos.
Artes del lenguaje
Fonética
Identifica los nombres de las letras mayúsculas y minúsculas
Actividad​: Utlizando un grupo de tarjetitas “flash cards”, pídale a su hijo/a que identifique los nombres de las
letras. (Coloque las tajetas fuera de orden)
Escritura
Forma letras mayúsculas y minúsculas de manera legible
Actividad​: Pídale a su hijo/a que practique la escritura de las letras utlizando crema de afeitar, marcadores, arena,
etc.
Lectura
Identifica los elementos de un cuento incluyendo el ambiente, los personajes y los acontecimientos importantes.
Actividad:​ Cuando le esté leyendo a su hijo/a, pause y pídale que le diga el nombre de los personajes, donde se llevó
a cabo el cuento y que le mencione los eventos importantes del cuento.
Estudios sociales
Identificar símbolos importantes, costumbres y responsabilidades que representan las creencias y los valores de los
estadounidenses.
Actividad​: Ayude a su hijo/a a identificar las banderas de los EE.UU. y de Texas, a recitar la Promesa de Lealtad
“Pledge of Allegiance” hacia las banderas de los EE.UU. y de Texas y háblele acerca de lo que significa votar y el
impacto que tiene en nuestra sociedad.
Entender como las figuras históricas, los patriotas y los buenos ciudadanos ayudan a darle forma a la comunidad, al
estado y a la nación.
Actividad​: Hablar sobre las cosas que describen a un buen ciudadano.
Matemáticas
Reconoce y describe figuras geométricas incluyedo: círculo, triángulo, rectángulo y cuadrados como rectángulos
especiales
Actividad:​ Sea un “detective de figuras” y busque figuras alrededor de la casa. Busque en objetos de la vida real
como por ejemplo un círculo se puede conseguir en un reloj.
Identifica figuras tridimensionales: esfera, cono, cilindro y cubo
Actividad:​ Encuentren y nombren objetos reales que representen estas figuras como: bolas, cono de helados, latas,
tubos de papel toalla y dados o cajas​.
Ciencias
Energía, fuerza y movimiento: Observe formas en que se pueden mover los objetos como: en línea recta, zigzag,
arriba y abajo, al frente y atrás, vuelta y vuelta y rápido y lento.
Actividad​: Hable con su hijo/a sobre cómo se mueven diferentes tipos de objetos como los sube y bajas/balancines,
trompos, columpios, bolas, etc.
Explore la interacción entre los imanes y de diversos materiales.
Actividad: Permítale a su hijo/a que explore los imanes probando diferentes elementos para descubrir si se atraen
o repelen.
* ​Explore las diferentes formas de energía tales como la luz, el calor y el sonido.
Actividad: Utilizando una linterna y diferentes superficies para ver la diferencia del reflejo de la luz. Pídale a su
hijo/a que frote sus manos y/o los pies para producir calor. Llene vasos con agua, diferentes niveles, y toque los
vasos para escuchar la diferencia en los tonos.
