2nd Annual Ministry Mingle, October 19th in the gym, 6:30pm to 9pm
Have you ever looked at the list of Ministries in the bulletin and wondered what those groups do? Have you ever
looked at the activities listed in the bulletin's weekly "Schedule of Events" and wanted to know more or join in?
Have you ever wanted to get more involved in parish ministries but just didn't know where to start?
Come join us on October 19th in the gym for a fun evening where we'll answer these questions and more. There'll
be food, wine, entertainment and free baby sitting, and it's a great way to get to know your fellow parishioners.
Whether you can spare a few minutes or a few hours per month, we'll help you find the ministries that suit you best
and are in great need of your time and talent.
Immediate Action Needed! Urge the Governor to Veto SB 131
Help us stop SB 131 (Beall)! Current law treats victims of child sexual abuse the same, regardless of where the abuse
took place and regardless of whether the abuser worked for a public school, a private school or a religious organization. A controversial bill now on the Governor's desk will change that. Under SB 131, victims who were abused by employees or volunteers of private or non-profit organizations would be able to sue those organizations even if the statute
of limitations was over. Victims who may have been abused in public schools or by government workers, on the other
hand, get nothing. As the bill is currently drafted, not only are they prevented from suing the school, they can't even sue
the actual perpetrator who committed the abuse.
The California Catholic Conference opposes SB 131, and opposes discrimination against victims and private employers. SB 131 is also opposed by a growing coalition of that includes private schools and universities, the California
YMCA/YWCA, USA Swim, USA Gymnastics, other religious groups and the La Raza Roundtable de California. Visit

him to veto SB 131.

Sisters and Brothers of St. Lucy - a quick update on progress towards our pledges for the St.
Lucy 2013 ADA goal. Last year St. Lucy was asked to pledge $156,000 for the ADA and we responded with $165,519.10 in pledges, or 106% of goal. That is a tremendous response and we
are grateful for your support! As of the end of August, $141,558.33 has been collected, leaving
us with $14,441.67 remaining to achieve our pledge. As you know, 100% of any and all funds
collected in excess of the $156,00 goal is returned to the parish, so it important that we complete
our pledges. Thank you all very much for your support!
Fr. Kevin’s New Series of Spirit-Seekers Seminars
Sunday, October 6, 4:00-6:00 PM in the PAC
The new series will focus on the stages of the spiritual
journey according to the most important female author
in Christian history -- St. Teresa of Avila, the great
16th century Doctor of the Church, reformer, and spiritual master. In preparation, you are invited to read
The Interior Castle, “Introduction” and “First, Second,
and Third Dwelling Places.” The series will also give
ongoing guidance on the practice of Christian meditation.

¡Ayúdenos a detener el Proyecto de ley SB 131 (Beall)! Las leyes actuales tratan a las víctimas del abuso infantil por
igual, independientemente del lugar donde haya ocurrido el abuso e independientemente de si el abusador trabajaba
para una escuela pública, una escuela privada o una organización religiosa. Un polémico proyecto de ley que va en
camino al Gobernador podría cambiarlo todo. Conforme al Proyecto SB 131, las víctimas que hayan sufrido de abuso
en manos de empleados o voluntarios de alguna organización privada o sin fines de lucro, podrían demandar a esas
organizaciones aunque ya haya vencido el plazo de prescripción. Por otro lado, las víctimas que posiblemente hayan
sufrido abusos en las escuelas públicas o en manos de los trabajadores del gobierno, no reciben nada. Así como está
redactado este proyecto de ley ahora, no solamente se les impide demandar a la escuela, sino que ni siquiera pueden

Hermanas y hermanos de Santa Lucía - una rápida actualización sobre el progreso de nuestras
promesas para el objetivo de Santa Lucia del ADA de 2013. El año pasado, la parroquia de Santa Lucia

Nueva Serie de Platicas en Ingles por el Padre Kevin
Domingo, 6 de octubre, de las 4pm-6pm en el PAC
La nueva serie se centrará en las etapas del camino espiritual según el autor femenino más importante de la historia
cristiana - Santa Teresa de Ávila, el gran doctor del siglo
16 de la Iglesia, reformador y maestro espiritual. La serie
también dará orientación permanente sobre la práctica de
la meditación cristiana.

La parroquia ha recibido un nuevo envío de CDs para nuestro
quiosco. Esta semana nos gustaría presentar el CD "15 Cosas
que hacer en medio del sufrimiento" en Ingles. El sufrimiento es
un misterio que todos enfrentamos en algún momento de nuestras vidas. Ya sea forma física, emocional o espiritual, y así pondrá a prueba nuestra fe. En este CD, el orador Jeff Cavins comparte ideas personales que obtuvo a través de su propio dolor
físico. Él nos muestra cómo podemos unir nuestros sufrimientos a
los de Cristo en la cruz, y así dando significado al sufrimiento que

Good News! In Bryan/College Station, TX - 40 Days for
Life started when faithful pro-life advocates consistently
prayed
outside the Planned Parenthood abortion clinic. Fourteen
vigils later God has answered their prayers. This facility is
now closed!
St. Lucy Parish has joined with other pro-life advocates in
our diocese to participate in the 40 Days for Life Campaign. You are encouraged to make a commitment to
faithfully pray and fast in this current campaign which started Sept. 25 until Nov. 3rd. Help us save the lives of the
innocent unborn children.

For those of you who saw "Restless Heart, the Confessions
of St. Augustine last November, (the fundraiser for World
Youth Day), we have good news for you! On November 15,
the DVD will be released for sale by Ignatius Press. Hearts
of Love, a local Catholic bookstore is taking orders for it
now. It's only $25 (including tax) and has two movies in the
package. The original four-hour movie in Italian (with English subtitles) and the 2 1/2 hour English version that was
