Dear Parents and Guardians,
The last two seasons, Colorado has experienced above normal temperatures, and particularly in the Denver
Metro area; temperatures that reportedly had not been seen in more than 50 years.
Last year, the district pushed the start date back to help lower the risk of having students in school during times
of extreme heat. Again this year, as was communicated last year, the 79 schools that do not have air
conditioning will have the option of calling an early release day following a prolonged forecast of extreme heat
conditions. The West Campus is one of the locations without air conditioning.
We want to assure you that while every effort will be made to ensure our campus stays open and comfortable,
our number one priority is the safety and well-being of students and staff. If the temperature within the building
rises to the degree that we feel it is unsafe to host classes, the campus may have an early release day.
This week we had had some extreme temperatures within the building, therefore we are declaring an early
release Heat Day for Friday, August 30, 2013. An early release Heat Day notice has been posted on our
school’s website, the DPS website, and an email and Robo-call will be sent out to alert our families of the
change in schedule for tomorrow.
We understand this is short notice and an inconvenience for many of our families and that child care may be an
issue for some. We are working closely with DPS Transportation to ensure that a modified bus route will be
implemented on an early release Heat Day, and that students will be dropped off at their normal locations.
Parents who do not wish for their student to ride the bus home earlier in the day will have the option of
picking up their students at the school building.
In planning a modified schedule for a Heat Day, we have been very intentional to ensure a full academic day is
included –- on a tightened schedule. Students will engage in all subjects of learning, and instruction time will be
used to its maximum on these days of early release.
We are available to answer questions you may have regarding the early release Heat Day.

patience as we get through the first couple weeks of the year.

EARLY RELEASE DAY
Due to EXTREME Heat in the West High
School Building
Students will be released to either board the bus or walk home as follows:
West Leadership at 12:00 pm
West Generations at 12:30 pm
West HS students at 12:30 pm
Students will be dropped off at their normal bus stops.
Parents who do not wish for their student to ride the bus home will have the option
of picking up their students at the school building at the times listed above.
Athletics will go on as scheduled. All sports will meet at their assigned times and
locations. The West Cowboys Football game will be at All City Stadium at 4:00 pm,
Soccer will play Saturday at West HS ay 10:00 am.

Estimados padres y guardianes,
En las dos ultimas temporadas de verano Colorado ha tenido temperaturas muy altas, arriba de lo normal, temperaturas
que no se han visto en los últimos 50 años, particularmente en el Area Metropolitana de Denver.
El año pasado el distrito empezó clases tarde para reducer el riesgo de tener alumnus en la escuela durante dias de extremo
calor. Otra vez este año, se nos comunico que las 79 escuelas que no cuentan con aire acondicionado, tienen la opción de
tener solo medio dia de clases, si el calor extremo continua. El Campus de West es uno de esos.
Queremos decirle que estamos haciendo un esfuerzo muy grande para mantener el Campus abierto, es una prioridad que
nuestros alumnos y personal esten seguros y agusto. Si creemos que el edificio alcanza temperaturas muy altas y pone en
riesgo a todos tendremos que dejar salir a los alumnos temprano.
Esta semana tuvimos temperaturas extremas en el edificio, por lo tanto hemos decidido tener medio dia de clases , Dia de
excesivo calor, uno de estos es el viernes 30 de agosto de 2013. La informacion de este dia la encuentra en la gagina
de internet de nuestra escuela y en la de DPS, hemos mandado correos electronicos y llamadas para informarles
de los cambios del horario de mañana.
Entendemos que esta es una noticia de última hora e inconveniente para muchas familias que tendran que buscar queien
les cuide a sus hijos. Estamos trabajando en conjunto con el transporte de DPS para que haya camiones que
regresen a sus hijos en las paradas que les corresponde. Las familias que no deseen que sus hijos tomen el autobus
escolar pueden venir a recogerlos a la escuela.
Con esta modificacion al horario, por Dia deextremo calor, les aseguramos que los niños tendran todas sus clases y la
ensenanza sera intensiva y usaremos estos dias al maximo.
Estamos disponibles para contestar cualquier pregunta, por el calor y medio dia de clases.
Como siempre , le agradecemos su apoyo y paciencia al Capus de West, durante estos dias de intenso calor en estas
primeras semanas del año escolar.

Deportes; los horarios serán como siempre. Todas las practicas son el los lugares acordados. El partido
de football de los Vaqueros de West, será en el All City Stadium a las 4:00 pm, Soccer se jugara en el
West HS a las 10:00 am.
