We have not properly understood “stewardship”
until we can say: “We are unprofitable servants; we have
done what we were obliged to do” (Luke 17:10).

PASTOR’S PERSPECTIVE
Dear parishioners:
In the late 19th century, Christian churches in
America began to professionalize their fundraising
appeals and adopted the second Sunday of November as
Stewardship Sunday. The term “stewardship” has
become so widely used as a euphemism for tithing that,
as soon as people hear the word, they grab their wallet
or purse, either to open it or to close it tighter.
This is so unfortunate, because the idea of
stewardship is a lot more fundamental than church
budgets and buildings.
Properly understood,
stewardship is the realization that we are not “owners”
but only “managers”. This is what we are told “in the
beginning”, in chapters 1 and 2 of Genesis.
The creation accounts in those two chapters tell us
that the human is made from the earth. This is a
significant Hebrew wordplay: ha-adam (the human) is
made from ha-adamah (the ground). Only after the
divine “operation” which turns a rib from Adam into Eve
that human beings are distinguished as man and woman,
ish and ishshah.
Also in the creation accounts, we are told that the
human’s job is to “cultivate and care for” the garden in
which they have been placed, to “have dominion over
the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, and all the living
things that crawl on the earth” (Genesis 1:28, 2:15). In
other words, God puts human beings in charge of all His
creation.
Through his parables – especially the parable of the
Vigilant Servants (Luke 12:35-48), the parable of the
Dishonest Steward (Luke 16:1-13), and the parable of the
Talents (Luke 19:11-27) – Jesus explains to us what “in
charge” really means. All belongs to God. We are His
stewards. And we have the responsibility to manage it
all for His glory.

CROSS CATHOLIC OUTREACH
Father Raul Perez of Cross Catholic Outreach will be
visiting our parish on November 19th and 20th to speak
at all the Masses of the poor in developing countries.
Cross Catholic Outreach was founded to create a
meaningful link between parishes in America and the
priests and nuns working oversea in the Caribbean,
Africa, Asia, Central and South America.
Fr. Perez comes from Dominican
Republic. Between 1960 and 1973, he
ministered to the poor as a Christian
Brother until an assignment to help care
for six orphans inspired him to take a
break from the religious life and raise the
children himself. Once the children grew
up, he returned to his vocation and was ordained a priest
in 1986 in the Diocese of Barahona, Dominican Republic.
In 1991, with his bishop’s permission, Fr. Perez
moved to the United States to work with migrant
workers in Georgia. He was the first Hispanic priest to
serve in the Diocese of Savannah. Fr. Perez brings his
excellent bilingual communication skills, extensive field
experience and his fatherly love for the poorest of the
poor to Cross Catholic Outreach.
BISHOP DIMARZIO’S VISIT
As the spiritual leader of our Diocese, Bishop
DiMarzio is responsible for the spiritual well-being of all
the faithful in Brooklyn and Queens. That’s why he
makes it his top priority to visit every parish in the
Diocese. He will once again visit our parish on Sunday,
November 27th. Bishop DiMarzio will celebrate the
10:30 AM Mass in Spanish and meet with parish leaders
afterward. We are happy and honored to welcome
Bishop DiMarzio to our parish.

fondos y adoptaron el segundo
domingo de noviembre como
Domingo de la Corresponsabilidad. El
término “corresponsabilidad” se ha utilizado tan
ampliamente como un eufemismo para el diezmo que,
tan pronto escuchan la palabra, la gente agarran su
cartera o bolsa, ya sea para abrirla o para cerrarla más
fuerte. Esto es tan desafortunado, porque la idea de
corresponsabilidad es mucho más fundamental que los

corresponsabilidad es la comprensión de que no somos
“dueños” sino sólo “administradores”. Esto es lo que nos

dicen que el humano está hecho de la tierra. Este es un
juego de palabras significativo hebreo: ha-adam (el
humano) está hecho de ha-adamah (la tierra). Sólo

costilla de Adán en Eva que los seres humanos se
distinguen como hombre y mujer, ish e ishshah.
También en los relatos de la creación, se nos dice que
el trabajo humano es “cultivar y cuidar” el jardín en el
que han sido colocados, “tener dominio sobre los peces
del mar, las aves del aire y todo Seres vivos que se
arrastran por la tierra” (Génesis 1:28, 2:15). En otras
palabras, Dios pone a los seres humanos a cargo de toda
su creación.
A través de sus parábolas — especialmente la
parábola de los siervos vigilantes (Lucas 12: 35-48), la
parábola del administrador deshonesto (Lucas 16: 1-13) y
la parábola de los talentos (Lucas 19: 11-27) — Jesús nos
explica lo que realmente significa “encargado”. Todo
pertenece a Dios. Nosotros somos sus administradores.
Y tenemos la responsabilidad de administrar todo para
Su gloria.

“corresponsabilidad” hasta que podemos decir: “Somos
siervos improductivos; hemos hecho lo que nos vimos
obligados a hacer” (Lucas 17:10).

El Padre Raúl Pérez de Programa de Alcance Cruz
Católica visitará nuestra parroquia el 19 y 20 de
noviembre para hablar en todas las Misas
de los pobres en los países en desarrollo.
El Programa de Alcance Cruz Católica fue
fundada para crear un vínculo
significativo entre las parroquias en
América y los sacerdotes y monjas que
trabajan en ultramar en el Caribe, África,
Asia, Centro y Sur América.
P. Pérez viene de la República Dominicana. entre
1960 y 1973, ministró a los pobres como Hermano
Cristiano hasta que una asignación para ayudar a cuidar
a seis huérfanos le inspire a tomar un descanso de la vida
religiosa y criar a los propios niños. Una vez que los
niños crecieron, regresó a su vocación y fue ordenado
sacerdote en 1986 en la Diócesis de Barahona, República
Dominicana.
En 1991, con el permiso de su obispo, el P. Pérez se
trasladó a los Estados Unidos para trabajar con
trabajadores migrantes en Georgia. Fue el primer
sacerdote hispano en servir en la diócesis de Savannah.
P. Pérez trae sus excelentes habilidades de comunicación
bilingüe, amplia experiencia de campo y su amor
paternal por los más pobres de los pobres para el
Programa de Alcance Cruz Católica.

VISITA DEL OBISPO DIMARZIO
Como líder espiritual de nuestra Diócesis, Mons.
DiMarzio es responsable del bienestar espiritual de todos
los fieles en Brooklyn y Queens. Es por eso que él hace su
máxima prioridad de visitar cada parroquia en la
Diócesis. Una vez más visitará nuestra parroquia el
domingo 27 de noviembre. Mons. DiMarzio celebrará la
Misa de las 10:30 am y se reunirá con los líderes de la
parroquia después. Estamos felices y honrados de darle
la bienvenida a nuestra parroquia al obispo DiMarzio.
CARRERA DE LA VIRGEN DE GUADALUPE
El Apostolado
Mexicano
Diocesano está
organizando una carrera otra vez a la Co-Catedral de San
José el 12 de diciembre en honor a la Virgen de
Guadalupe. Cualquier persona de 13 años de edad o
mayor puede participar. El costo es de $45 por persona,
que incluye el uniforme. La carrera concluirá con una
Misa en la co-catedral. Al final de la Misa, el Obispo
bendecirá las antorchas que cada grupo parroquial
llevará al regresar a su parroquia. Para obtener más

十字架天主教外展服务
主爱的兄弟姐妹：
在十九世纪末，美国的基督教会使他们的募捐
活动进入专业化，并采用十一月的第二个星期天
为“管家日”。“管家”这个词广泛地成为了“什
一奉献”的委婉说法，以至于当人们听到这个词的
时候，他们就抓起自己的钱包，不是打开就是合的
更紧。
这是很令人遗憾的，因为“管家”这个词的根
本意义远远大于教堂的财政收支和建筑物。准确
地说，“管家”是让我们认识到我们不是“拥有
者”，而只是“管理者”。这也是创世纪的第一章
和第二章“在起初”告诉我们的。
在这两章中创造的故事告诉我们，人是从土来
的。希伯来文原文的词就显示了这个重要意思：
人类（ha-adam）来自土地（ha-adamah）。只有经
过了那个“神圣的手术”，就是亚当的肋骨造成了
厄娃，人类才分为男人（ish）和女人（ishshah）。
同样在创造的故事中，我们得知人类的工作是
“治理和管理”他们被置于的乐园，并“管理海中

本堂司铎：杜万桑神父
来自十字架天主教外展服务团体的劳尔•佩雷
斯神父（Fr. Raul Perez）将于十一月十九日和
二十日来我们的堂区，并在弥撒中向我们介绍发
展中国家的穷人的情况。十字架天主教外展服务
团体的创建是为了连接美国各堂区与所有在加勒
比地区、非洲、亚洲、中美洲以及南美洲服务的
神父及修女们。
佩雷斯神父来自多明加共和国，于1960到
1973年间，作为一名基督兄弟会的修士，他服务
于穷人，照顾六名孤儿。这激励他暂时离开修道
生活，亲自抚养这六名孤儿。孩子们长大以后，
他重新回去修道并于1986年在多明加共和国的巴
拉奥纳教区祝圣为神父。
1991年，佩雷斯神父得到主教的允许之后，
来到美国的佐治亚州为移民劳工服务。他是第一
位服务于萨瓦纳教区的西班牙语系神父。佩雷斯
神父为十字架天主外展服务团体带来了他完美的
双语技巧，全面的工作经验以及他对穷人中的穷
人的父爱。
迪马守主教牧灵访问
作为我们教区的灵修领袖，迪马守主教对布
碌仑及皇后区的天主教徒的灵性健康负有责任，
所以他把访问教区的每一个堂区作为他的当务之
急。他将于11月27日（星期天）再次来访问我们
堂区。迪马守主教将举行上午十点半的西班牙文
弥撒，之后将接见堂区小组负责人。我们荣幸并
欢喜地欢迎主教的到来。
