In the first reading from Genesis God makes a covenant with
Abram and promises to Abram that his descendents will be as numerous as the stars in the sky. God promises generously to Abram
all this and the only appropriate response from Abram is his faith…
do we recognize the Father’s generosity for us? Do we live a life of
faith?

En las primeras lecturas del libro del Genesis, Dios le hace
una promesa a Abraham que sus descendientes serán tan numerosos como las estrellas del cielo. Dios le promete todo esto

Jesus’ trip up the mountain to pray with Peter, John, and James
takes a rather unexpected turn. The apostles witness Jesus’ transfiguration into his full glory, which will not be fulfilled until His death
on the cross and resurrection from the tomb. What is interesting
about the transfiguration is that Moses and Elijah are there with him
and sharing in his glory. On one level of understanding, Moses represents the law and Ten Commandments; also, Elijah represents
the prophets of the Old Testament. Jesus is the fulfillment and
completion of the law and the prophets. La jornada de Jesús a la montaña con Pedro, Juan, y James a
orar, tiene un resultado inesperado. Los apóstoles son testigos
de la transfiguración de Jesús a una grandeza total que no seria cumplida hasta su muerte en la cruz y su resurrección de la
tumba. Lo interesante de la transfiguración es que Moisés y Elías

Elías representa los profetas del antiguo testamento. Jesús es el

In addition to this, a covenant is being formed between the
Father and the Son, Jesus. The Father asserts his authority like He
did with Abram and States, “this is my chosen Son; listen to him.” The Covenant the Father makes with his son is that all who have
faith in Jesus and listen to him are able to join in Jesus’ death.
A la vez, una promesa se forma entre Padre e Hijo, Jesús. El Padre acierta su autoridad como lo hizo con Abraham y dice, “Este es

la muerte de Jesús. You see, Moses and Elijah, who have died in history, are
conversing with Jesus about his sacrifice on the cross and glories
of the resurrection are shown to these three apostles in Jesus and
shared by Moses and Elijah. These great men of the Old Testament are enjoying the benefits of the New Testament, the New
Covenant of eternal life.
O sea, Moisés y Elías, quienes ya han muerto en la historia, están
conversando con Jesús acerca de su sacrificio en la cruz, y las
grandezas de la resurrección son mostradas a estos tres apóstoles
en Jesús y son compartidas con Moisés y Elías. Estos hombres

The Father is speaking to us that we are to listen to His chosen Son by purging ourselves of the evils in our lives during this
season of Lent and embark on living lives of faith. None of us are
perfect, so we all have something to purge and much more to hear
from Jesus. If we take serious the Father’s advice for us that Jesus
is the Son of God and listen to him, then we too will share the gift
of the resurrection because we will be living in the Body of Christ
which is forever.
El padre nos esta hablando que debemos de escuchar a su hijo
escogido, purgándonos de lo malo en nuestras vidas durante
este tiempo de cuaresma, y proponiéndonos a vivir una vida de
fe. Ninguno de nosotros es perfecto, todos tenemos algo que
purgar, y mucho que escuchar de Jesús. Si tomamos el consejo
de nuestro Padre en serio, que Jesús es el hijo de Dios y lo escuchamos, entonces compartiremos el regalo de la resurrección
porque estaremos viviendo en el cuerpo de Cristo que es para
siempre.

help make the 5K Run Fundraiwer for St. Rose School a success.
On Friday night, February 5th approximately 300 pasta dinners were
served while runners picked up their race gear.
On Sunday, Febrary 7 Super Bowl Sunday, the ICF sold about 300
meatball and Italian sausage sandwiches and about 250 cannoli’s.

The 2016 Women’s Retreat Committee is offering ZUMBA classes in the parish hall on the following

As we prepare for Lent and Easter, your Knights of Columbus will be having Lenten Fish Dinners on Fridays
February 12, 19, and 26; March 4, 11, and 18. Menu will

dynamic parish-based Bible study program designed to help ordinary Catholics to grow in their
knowledge of the Scriptures while deepening their

Parish Mission for Lent
Father Arturo will be holding a Parish Mission for
Lent this year. All MGO’s and Parishioners are
encourage to attend. No Cost other than your time.
The dates for the English Mission are February
24th (Crucifix) and March 2 (Altar), 2016. All will
begin at 6:30 p.m. The missions will be held in our
church and include the daily mass with an expanded homily based on the theme for the evening followed by a reception in the hall. The same Parish
Mission en Español will be held on February 18th
and 25th and March 3rd, also at 6:30 p.m.
Padre Arturo presentara una Mision Parroquial de Cuaresma en este
ano. Todos los grupos parroquiales y fieles estan invitados a que asistan. Sin costo alguno mas que, de su valioso tiempo.
Las fechas para la Mision de Cuaresma en ingles seran el miercoles
24 (el Crucifijo) y el miercoles, 2 de Marzo ( el Altar). Daran inicio a
partir de las 6:30 de la tarde, en la iglesia que, incluira la misa del dia,
con homilia extendida basada en el tema correspondiente del dia.
Despues, se les invitara a una sencilla recepcion en el salon parroquial. La misma Mision de Cuaresma se dara en espanol con las fechas
siguientes: Jueves, 18 y 25 de febrero y el jueves, 3 de marzo a partir
de las 6:30 p.m.
