SPIRITUAL DISEASE

/ LA COMPLACENCIA=UNA ENFERMIDAD
1 Timothy 6:11-16
There is a cure for ignorance, education. Once educated
one knows what needs to be done to no longer live in a state
of unknowing. Then there’s complacency, when you know that
something is wrong but you make the choice not to care or do
anything about it. In today’s Gospel story the man who is
complacent goes to hell.
Why? He knew there was a poor hungry man lying at his
door and he does nothing about it. He has an unapologetic
attitude of superiority and even from hell thinks he can order
people around.
Complacency is a spiritual cancer that eats up our soul.
Instead of doing what is right and better we have the
attitude of “I don’t care!” or “It doesn’t matter!” or “I don’t
want to be bothered with it!” But, as people of faith, we have
to care about what is right, we have to pursue what is just,
we have to courageously address issues about
racism and poverty and violence and environmental
responsibility and the sacredness of life. We can
conveniently look the other way.
Don’t be complacent. Otherwise the day may
arrive when it’s too late.

Existe una cura para la ignorancia, la educación. Una vez que
una persona educada sabe lo que hay que hacer para ya no
vivir en ignorancia. Hay también la complacencia, cuando uno
sabe que algo está mal, pero se toma la decisión de no prestar
atención o no hacer nada al respecto. En la parábola del
Evangelio de hoy, el hombre complaciente va al infierno.
¿Por qué? Él sabía que había un hombre hambriento,
postrado en su puerta y sin embargo no hizo nada al respecto.
Él tiene una actitud sin complejos de superioridad e incluso
desde el infierno cree que puede dar órdenes.
La complacencia es un cáncer espiritual que se come
nuestra alma. En vez de hacer lo que es mejor y correcto
tenemos la actitud de "no me importa!" o "¡No importa!" o "¡no
me molesta con esto!" Pero, como personas de fe, debemos
preocuparnos por lo que está bien, tenemos que buscar lo que
es justo, es necesario hablar con coraje de cuestiones
sobre racismo, pobreza, violencia, la responsabilidad
del medio ambiente, y el valor sagrado de la vida. No
podemos ser ignorantes y evitar lo que es bueno.
No seas complaciente. De lo contrario el día puede
llegar cuando ya sea demasiado tarde.
