EASTER IS THE DAY THE LORD HAS MADE!
JOYFUL SHOUTS OF VICTORY OVER THE WORLD
CAME FROM THE TENTS OF THE JUST
The faithful expectant Jews sensed
that Jesus’ teaching and healing was
guided by the Holy Spirit. Standing at
the foot of the cross St. John felt that
Jesus’ last breath was a gift of the
Spirit to continue Jesus’ way of
teaching and healing. John writes “the
Spirit testifies that Jesus is God’s Son
and your faith makes you a victor over
the world.”
Witnesses to Jesus’ resurrection
formed a community of believers who
let go of worldly clinging to land and
possessions. They formed the first
credit union that no hardworking
believer should be in need but insisted
that the apostles distribute their assets
according to individual family needs.
Many newly baptized have entered
the church because of our sharing at
Ste. Anne’s Pantry and Most Holy
Trinity’s outreach of clothing and
food. The new economy of Easter
grace is a dynamic way of sharing still
so vital in our daily experience of
parish life.
St. Thomas rarely attended meetings
but always let his opinions be known.
“Unless I touch his hands and feet and
put my finger into his pierced side I
will not believe that Jesus is alive.” A
week goes by and this time Thomas is
at the meeting invited to touch the
Risen Lord’s scarred body.
The world of skeptics needs to know
that God is understanding of our
human suffering. Thomas learned by
touching the wounded triumphant
Lord that God is for real!
FINDING
ST.
THOMAS
When
Portuguese
missionaries
landed in India they disembarked on
their mission to preach Jesus at what
was then the ends of the earth. The
Portuguese looked around at each
other and informed the friars, “Well
we’ve known Jesus for 2,000 years
thanks to St. Thomas who is buried
and revered here!” When our cynical
doubts encounter Jesus as the
“suffering servant” we take the Gospel
as missionaries to our neighbors near
and far.
Otra
característica
del
amor
propias. Nosotros mismos hemos
podido tener la experiencia de ver
que, más allá de nuestro propio gusto
o comodidad, éramos capaces de
sacrificarnos por quienes estaban
cerca de nosotros.
CSA
MINUTE
Campus
Ministry
College students
who are involved in campus ministry
are far more likely to practice their
faith after earning degrees. High
school juniors and seniors and their
parents are invited to meet campus
ministers
from
colleges
and
universities throughout Michigan at a
campus ministry fair at Sacred Heart
Major Seminary in Detroit this
Thursday, April 16. Your gifts to the
Catholic Services Appeal enable the
Archdiocese of Detroit to reach out to
young adults on campuses through the
Office for Young Adult and Campus
Ministry. Campus ministry helps
college students further their spiritual
growth, such as through one-on-one
pastoral
counseling,
spiritual
direction, social justice projects, and
retreats. Two sessions will be held:
One for Catholic high school students
from 9:30 a.m. to noon, and a second
for students not in Catholic high
schools from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. For
more information about CSA-funded
ministries, programs, and services,

Message from
Sr. Lorraine
Wouldn't it be wonderful if after Easter
our lives were really overwhelmed by a
sense of the joy of the Resurrection?
Sometimes that happens, but more often
we may be struck by remaining in our
own Holy Saturday, or even still be
trudging through our personal cross. Personally,
I've been grumpy and even had a bad fight with
someone. And yet, Jesus has risen, and there is
hope, and we believe it. We taste that hope in the
midst of our big and little struggles.
A testament to that hope is the courage of the
parents of the 43 Mexican students who
disappeared. Several of those parents are at Ste.
Anne's this weekend. They have lived one of the
most painful crosses a parent can experience - the
murder of a child. At the same time, they celebrate
the good lives of their children who were studying
to be teachers and honor their memory by working
for justice.
We are in solidarity with them in their suffering,
and in our Resurrection belief that God can bring
new life from death.
Blessings, Sr. Lorraine

Mensaje de
Hna. Lorraine
No sería maravilloso si, después de la Pascua,
todas nuestras vidas estuvieron llenas de un
sentido del gozo de la resurrección? A veces
eso pasa, pero mas frecuente podemos estar
chocados porque nos quedamos en nuestro
propio Sábado Santo, o aun todavía cargando
con nuestra cruz personal. Personalmente, yo
Bendiciones, Hna. Lorraine

NOT BE TAKEN
OUT OF THE
WORLD
Jesus prayed that we
would be protected
from the Evil One.
Today Ste. Anne’s welcomes the friends of 43
Mexican martyred young teachers in training who
disappeared so as not to be annoying at the
Mayor’s wife’s garden party. The church never
forgets the “disappeared ones.”
On this past Ask Wednesday young adults in
Mexico asked the priests to sign their foreheads
with the number 43 in solidarity with those students
who had devoted their lives to educating children in
remote locations in Mexico. The same fate has
recently met 147 students in Nigeria.
We offer comfort in Christ’s name to the family of
the 43 and look forward with Bishop Thomas
Gumbleton to soon celebrate the beatification of
Archbishop Oscar Romero who was martyred for
his faith in El Salvador.
