OUR BLESSED LORD WILL DRY THE TEARS
AND LIFT THE NATIONS’ MOURNING VEIL
DESTROYING DEATH FOREVER
TE INVITO
A
UN
BANQUETE
To
realize
his
dream
of
circumnavigation Columbus was
inspired by St. Paul’s confident
writings: “Whatever provisions you
need, you can do all things with faith
in God who strengthens you.”
Young Christopher Columbus grew up
in the port city of Genoa, Italy and was
familiar with today’s Bible verses:
“God will provide for his faithful a
banquet of rich juicy food and pure
choice wines.” Imagine a young lad
listening to his mariner dad’s stories at
sea at a time when there was no
refrigeration and little salt to preserve
aging meat.
Christopher’s dad did not agree with
the teachers who taught that the earth
was flat and if one sailed too far out to
sea the ship would fall into oblivion or
be swallowed up by sea monsters. Mr.
Columbus told Chris: “Your head is
round as is your mouth. Look at the
round sun and moon. God made the
world round too!” Christopher looked
out to sea unafraid and filled with his
father’s dream of getting to the spices of
the orient to enjoy a rich banquet as
prophet Isaiah foretold.
JESUS CONFRONTS
THE ELDERS
The banquet of Jesus’ Father is an
invitation to all nations to live beyond
want to a shared banquet. Psalm 23
was in Jesus’ home: “The Lord God
is my Shepherd, there is nothing I
want.”
The chief priests and elders
maintained their elite life-style by
making sure in their stories that the
young would never leave their village
home let alone cross the dreaded
ocean. Needs of the local farm and
business led them to ignore the
invitation of the prophets and silence
God’s
messengers
through
mistreatment and killing.
Lo gracioso
es que siempre
estamos
invitados a la
fiesta del rey.
Es dios mismo
quien

SPEAKING UP FOR THE
COMMON GOOD
God’s voice expressed in Jesus
is meant to make a difference.
The modern term for building the
Kingdom is ―advocacy.‖ The
bishops of Michigan speak out
every week in our state with a voice for ―the
common good.‖ W ith people of good will we seek
as Catholics to live in harmony with other citizens
by addressing issues such as immigration, human
trafficking and problem pregnancy.

8,000 Michiganders have joined
their voices to our bishops by

WORLD MISSION SUNDAY
This Weekend, October 11 and 12 the second
collection will be for World Mission Sunday.
Foreign missionaries work around the world,
commonly in predominantly non-Christian regions
that are often very poor. As Pope Francis said
to the young people at World Youth Day this past
summer, “Sharing the experience of faith,
bearing witness to the faith, proclaiming the
Gospel: this is a command that the Lord entrust
to the whole church—and that includes you.”
Please be generous.

Supporting Christians
In light of escalating violence and threats
against Christians in Iraq, Detroit Archbishop
Allen Vigneron is urging Catholics in metro
Detroit to pray for peace. The Archbishop
made the following statement:“The Catholic
community in the Archdiocese of Detroit
offers its ardent prayers for all those
suffering the effects of violence in Iraq,
including
those
Christians
being
persecuted for their faith. With a unified
voice we pray that the power of good
may overcome the threat of evil. May
Saint Mary, the Mother of God, intercede
for our brothers and sisters in Iraq, and
offer a model of peace for all people.”
We will pray the
Rosary on Sundays in
the month of October
at 10:30 a.m.
All are welcome.
