Pentecost Sunday
The readings for this Pentecost Sunday abound with stewardship messages and imagery. In a brief deliberation it is
impossible to mention all, let alone expound upon them.
Nevertheless, the second reading from 1 Corinthians includes
two phrases that absolutely capture the quintessence of stewardship.
St. Paul asserts: “There are different kinds of spiritual gifts,
but the same Spirit.” This is tantamount to the oft-quoted declaration, “Everything we are and everything we have comes
from God.” All of the readings on Pentecost emphasize the
Holy Spirit — also known as Holy Ghost, Paraclete, Advocate, Counselor, Comforter, and Helper — and how this Spirit
pervades our lives and imbues us with all that is holy.
St. Paul adds: “To each individual the manifestation of the
Spirit is given for some benefit.” Benefit to whom? Certainly,
it is a benefit to us as individuals, so that we can use those
gifts to help God and assist others. That is stewardship — using the gifts we have received to build the Kingdom of God
and to serve and comfort others.
Our challenge is to identify those gifts; channel those gifts
in ways they can be shared; and, develop those gifts so they
enrich all of those around us.

St. Ann Young Adults is beginning a new "Apologetics"
series to equip young adults to be able to answer questions
and give a reason for their Catholic faith. We will be
covering topics ranging from Mary and Scandals in the
Church to Gay Marriage and Contraception. Join us every
Thursday at 7 pm in the Cenacle. For more information

St Ann Knights of Columbus Awards Deserving Scholarships
St Ann Knights of Columbus recently awarded scholarships to three
deserving young St Ann parishioners. Two scholarships were awarded
by the St Ann Council and the third scholarship was awarded for the
Gary and Martha Shafferman Foundation.
All scholarships were awarded to deserving young St Ann Parishioners
who demonstrated that they were committed to their faith through their
activities, were academically in or near the top of their class, had a
career focus in giving back and were in need of financial assistence.
This activity is one of the most inspirational programs the Knights
of Columbus are involved in. “ Meeting and getting to know these
outstanding young men and women who are committed to their faith,
family and community provides us with an understandihng of how well
were developing our nations leaders for the future . I can honestly say
that were in great hands “ stated Bill Baumler...Scholarship Committee
chairman.
The three deserving scholarships went to Erin Drinkwater the daughter
of Thomas and Annette Drinkwater, Kristen Diquette the daughter of
Bob and Michele Diquette and the Gary and Martha Shafferman award
went to Miriam Calixto daughter of Andres and Graciela Calixto.
In addition to the above winners we would also like to congratulate
Haley Rausch, daughter of Tony and Sandra Rausch who achieved
Horable Mention this year.
It so gratifying to meet young people who are leaders in all facets of
their life and yet are so committed to their faith.
The St Ann Council would like to thank all the deserving young St Ann
Parishioners who submitted applications this year. It was an outstanding group of young people and made our selection very difficult.

consultations and prayer conducted by a professional religious
staff. The event will be held at the University of Dallas, Irving (a
Catholic university), June 21-23. There is no charge to participants.
For further information, contact Fr. John Szatkowski at the Dallas
Diocese, 214-379-2860. [email protected] or visit www.vapinfo.org. Application deadline is June 10th. The Vocation Awareness Program is sponsored by the Serra Clubs of the Dallas and Fort
Worth Dioceses in conjunction with the Diocesan Vocation Offices
of Dallas and Fort Worth.
In order to help fund this program, the Serra Clubs are seeking your
help. The weekends of May 18th and 19th, as well as May 25th and
26th, there will be representatives offering you an opportunity
to win a chance at a prize drawing which include an Apple iPad,
Southwest Airline tickets, or tickets to a Texas Rangers Game. Each
ticket donation is $5.00 or 6 tickets for $25.00. All proceeds help

For over 25 years, Family Gateway has worked to help break the generational cycle of poverty and homelessness by providing individualized
care to homeless children and their families in Dallas County. Our aim
is to restore the dignity, stability, and self-reliance of the family unit
through housing, programs, and community partnerships specifically
designed to serve homeless families’ unique range of needs.
There are many ways to join with Family Gateway to help homeless
children and their families empower themselves for success. Your support will help provide a safe place for families to stabilize themselves,
along with the training and opportunities they need to make positive
choices for their future. To learn more about volunteer opportunities

Please pray especially for these newly initiated Catholics as
we join together on the feast of Pentecost. We pray for their
continued commitment to live the Christian life centered
on the Eucharist and love for the Gospel. We ask God the
Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, the source of peace and joy,
to strengthen and guide each and every one of them all the
days of their lives.

CCF Class 501:
Church History
All are welcome to join us as we come together during this
Year of Faith
to study the 4 parts of the
Church History illustrates how a community, guided by the Holy
Spirit, has evolved throughout the centuries. These events and actions are filled with joy and sorrow that remember an essential truth
for us: We are the Mystical Body of Christ in human history, in the
struggle to remain faithful to the Gospel, and to see ourselves as the
mustard seed that should grow and bear fruit. Come learn about our
Church History; the good, the bad and the ugly.
This class is open to all members of the parish and meets requirements for 10 hrs. of credit towards Catechetical Certification as
required by the Dioceses of Dallas.
