Durante la creación e invención de esta revista, hemos
notado una constante en nuestro trabajo y nuestras
vidas. Nos hemos encontrado rodeados de una espiral
ascendente de objetivos, deseos, planes y otra descendente con problemas, desepciones y fracasos.
La espiral es el símbolo más antiguo de la humanidad,
encontrado en todos los continentes, en todas las culturas representando el circulo del nacimiento – muerte
- renacimiento. Estas son fases que todos y cada uno
de nosotros vivimos, una curva que se inicia en un punto central y se va alejando progresivamente.
Vivimos buscando un objetivo o creando una visión y
podemos ver la espiral desde dos angulos, o comenzamos en un punto y nos acercamos al objetivo o viceversa, iniciamos con una idea y nos vamos alejando
de ella.
Al final la espiral no es más que un camino de entendimiento y de enseñanza, siempre podemos caer estando en lo más alto, pero estando abajo siempre habrá un
camino por el cual ascender.
Throughout the creation and invention of this magazine,
we have noticed a constant theme in our work and lives.
We’ve found ourselves surrounded by an upward spiral
of our goals, desires and plans and in another spiral, this
one descending, containing our problems, challenges
and failures.
The spiral is the oldest symbol of man - found on every
continent, in every culture and representing the cycle of
birth, death and rebirth. These are the stages that each
and every one of us lives through, a curve that starts at
a central point and is gradually moving away.
While seeking a goal or creating a vision we can see the
spiral from two angles. Starting at one point and growing closer to the goal or vice versa, beginning with an
idea and finding ourselves further away from it.
In the end, the spiral is simply a way of understanding
and learning, we can always fall from the top but at the
bottom there will always be a way to ascend.

Tachado de ególatra, excéntrico y morboso. Uno de
los más grandes genios contemporáneos explota su
peculiar trasfondo sociocultural, para hacer del cine y la
literatura las manifestaciones de la crítica existencial por
excelencia. Allan Stewart Konigsberg nació el primero
de diciembre de 1935 en Brooklyn, Nueva York, dentro de
una familia judía acomodada de orígenes ruso-austriacos.
Caracterizado por una desenfrenada pasión musical, más
que por sus mediocres calificaciones, Allan se inició en el
mundo del entretenimiento luego de mandar una serie de
chistes con el típico humor judío a diferentes redacciones bajo el pseudónimo de Woody Allen. Hoy no sólo
hablamos de una referencia neoyorquina de la talla
de los Yankees o el Empire State, sino de un icono
de la subcultura norteamericana de los migrantes
europeos refugiados, los mismos que desde
finales de los años 60 constituyeron el grupo
de intelectuales metropolitanos que a la
fecha son los encargados de la autocrítica de
la sociedad estadounidense y su capitalismo

Woody Allen expresses himself in his films as lightly as

of death. Perhaps his most emblematic film is Deconstructing Harry (1997), in which he confessed he shares the character’s personality; Alice (1990) which displays the void in
the daily life of a couple that can not be left behind; Interiors
(1978), his most serious work in which he pays tribute to
one of his greatest idols, Ingmar Bergman; and Annie Hall
(1997), the cornerstone of his directorial work that later on
would define his comic-reflexive style.
As much as the talent in this genius seems to be unending
it is important to point out that he has always recognized
the contribution of several sources in his work just by
watching to the tribute he pays in his films to masters as
Orson Wells, Hitchcock, Fellini and the before mentioned
Ingmar Bergman; y Annie Hall (1977) punta de lanza de su
filmografía como director y que definiría su estilo cómicoreflexivo. Si bien es cierto que el talento de este genio
parece inagotable, es importante apuntar que siempre ha
reconocido la aportación de diversas fuentes a su obra,
basta echar un vistazo a los homenajes que rinde dentro
sus filmes a maestros como Orson Wells, Hitchcock, Fellini y ya mencionado Ingmar Bergman, mismos que nos
permiten explicar ese estilo tan intimista de presentar
sus historias. Rendirse al estilo de este director resulta
complicado para muchos e imposible para otros, pero
una vez aceptado ese humor tan negro y la crudeza de su
realidad, es inadmisible no considerar la obra de Woody
Allen como un objeto de estudio de la historia del cine
mundial, retacado de críticas mordaces, temores mundanos y reflexiones que conducen a la catarsis emocional,
así como de momentos cargados de magia y dispuestos
para recordarnos que “Sólo se vive una vez, pero una vez
es más que suficiente si se hace bien”.

Una propuesta muy distinta a lo que fue el último proyecto de los directores con el que ganaron el Oscar este año,
es una comedia oscura al estilo de El gran Lebowski .
La trama se centra en un agente de la CIA que decide escribir sus memorias donde habla de operaciones ilegales
de la agencia.
El conflicto se inicia cuando pierde el disco donde guardaba el texto y cae en manos de un par de trabajadores atolondrados de un gimnasio que pretenden extorsionarlo.
Este es el primer guión original que escriben los Coen
desde El hombre que no estuvo ahí (con Billy Bob Thornton)
En esta cinta la fotografía estuvo a cargo del mexicano
Emmanuel Lubezki, cuatro veces nominado al Oscar,
quien se destacó en filmes como Sleepy Hollow (Tim
Burton) y Niños del Hombre (Alfonso Cuarón).

Country For Old Men, Burn After Reading is a dark comedy
in the style of The Big Lebowski. The plot centers on a CIA
agent who decides to write his memoirs, revealing the
illegal operations of the agency.
The conflict begins when he loses the disk containing the
text which falls into the hands of a few dumb gym workers
who decide to extort him.
This is the first original script writing from the Coen brothers since The Man Who Was Not There, starring Billy Bob
Thornton.
Mexico’s own Emmanuel Lubezki, four time Oscar nominee,
well regarded for his work in Sleepy Hollow (Tim Burton)
and Children of Men (Alfonso Cuaron) was the cinemetographer for the film.

Antoni Roixes nació en Manresa el día 8 de marzo del
año 1973. En el año 1995 después de 2 años
Antoni Roixes was born in
Manresa, Spain, on March
8th 1973. In 1995, after 2
years
pintando de forma anónima, hizo un año de estudio de Bellas
Artes en la reconocida escuela Massana de Barcelona, a partir
de este momento su pintura fue evolucionando de una forma
totalmente autodidacta.
Roixes ve el arte como parte de su vida, desde hace algunos
años su pintura tiene una gran relación con sus viajes, que son
su otra gran pasión, por ésto cuando hace sus obras le interesa
especialmente el alma de éstas, dejando para el proceso creativo la estética de las mismas.

Las obras de Antoni Roixes han aparecido en diferentes
publicaciones de interiorismo nacionales e internacionales
como Casa Viva, así como en diferentes periódicos españoles e
internacionales.
Este pintor también ha formado parte de diversas exposiciones
colectivas en españa. Las fotografías de sus obras pudieron
ser vistas en el Museo Picasso de Barcelona, en una exposición
retrospectiva de la fotógrafa Lee Miller (conocida por retratar a
artistas famosos como Picasso) donde 20 fotógrafos españoles captaron imágenes de 20 artistas Españoles.

Pieces by Antoni have appeared in various publications both
nationally and internationally in interior design, as well as
Casa Viva and other Spanish and international newspapers.
The painter has also taken part in many colective exhibitions in Spain. Photographs of his work can be seen in the
Picasso Museum in Barcelona, and in a retrospective exhibition of the photographer Lee Miller (famous for portraying
famous artists like Picasso) where 20 Spanish photographers captured images of 20 Spanish artists.

“este país me hace sentir cómodo
en mi mundo Surrealista Pop”

¿Cuál es tu visión de México y su gente como influencia para
crear arte?
A veces me doy cuenta de que realmente son muchas las
razones por las que estoy en México desde hace media
década. Pictóricamente hablando, empecé cuando descubrí
en NY (1996) al pintor Jean Michel Basquiat, libertad creativa
en su máxima expresión, independencia total de movimientos, líneas, formas y grosores entremezclados por una mente
clarividente y sin tapujos. En esos momentos yo estaba exponiendo una obra más surrealista y meditada, influenciado
por artistas como Dalí, Giorgio de Chirico y Magritte.
Fue esta nueva percepción en la que el arte tiene que ser
algo no premeditado sino simplemente improvisado la que
me hizo crear aun más, y no es que los grandes maestros
a los que había observado no usaran la improvisación sino
que al lenguaje que ellos utilizaban le faltaba algo para cerrar
el círculo vital y para mi ese algo se llamaba Pop, por esta
razón a la pintura que yo hago le llamo “Surrealismo Pop”, una
mezcla entre esos dos mundos, el surrealismo del que nací y
el que me llevo a empezar a pintar y el Pop que es donde vivo,
un mundo creativamente sin miedos vitales.
What is your view of mexico and its people as an influence
in artisitc creativity?
Sometimes I realize that actually there are many reasons
why I’ve cosen to live in Mexico for the last 10 years. Pictorially speaking, it started when I discovered in NY , in1996,
the painter Jean Michel Basquiat’s, creative freedom in his
maximum expression, totally independent movements,
lines, shapes and thicknesses mixed by a clairvoyant and
unequivocal mind. At those moments I was showing a
more surreal and thoughtful work, influenced by artists like
...I love to take walks on its beautiful
beaches, to see its incredible nature, and
when i get to my cabana, sit and work
on the sketches for future paintings...

It was this new perception that art has to be something
not premeditated if not simply improvised which made

...Me encanta andar por sus bonitas playas, observar su
increíble naturaleza, y al llegar a mi cabaña, sentarme y
preparar los esbozos para futuras pinturas...
Después de observar muchas obras de artistas mexicanos,
pero especialmente la obra de Frida Kahlo, descubrí mucho
de México, este país me hace sentir cómodo en mi mundo
Surrealista Pop, México me da una perspectiva de color única.
En este país sólo hay que caminar por sus calles llenas de
casas con fachadas de colores imposibles, gente trabajando
con un “look” indescriptible pero con una personalidad única.
México tiene una personalidad única, que en conjunto con sus
bellezas naturales, hacen uno de los mejores lugares para
vivir del mundo.
Tulum, es para mi un espacio de improvisación, un sitio que
me da la tranquilidad de crear sin las presiones de una gran
ciudad. Me encanta andar por sus bonitas playas, observar
su increíble naturaleza, y al llegar a mi cabaña, sentarme y
preparar los esbozos para futuras pinturas que haré en mi
estudio de Barcelona.

and for me that something was called Pop, for this reason
I call my paintings POP SURREALISM, a mix between those
two worlds. The surrealism where i came from, influencing
me to start painting and Pop which is where I live, a world
without creatively vital fear
After observing many works by Mexican artists, but especially Frida Kahlo, I discovered much of Mexico. This country
makes me feel comfortable in my own surreal Pop world.
In this country you just have to walk along its streets full of
houses with facades of impossible colors, people fashion
their own indescribable “look” giving them a unique personality, the handmade and mostly illegible flyers posted
on electric poles grab your attention constantly. Mexico
has a unique personality, which combined with its natural
beauty, make it one of the best places to live in the world.
Tulum for me, is an space of improvisation, a place who
gives me the serenity to create without the pressure of the
big city. I love to take walks on its beautiful beaches, to see
its incredible nature, and when i get to my cabana, sit and
work on the sketches for future paintings that I will make
in my studio in Barcelona.

No me gusta explicar un trabajo o una obra, de hecho es justo
lo que odio del arte contemporáneo. Tener que leer toda una
pared en un museo para entender por qué hay una cuchara y
un plato representando algo. No pretendo realizar arte, lo que
intento es simplemente experimentar y elaborar cierto tipo
de mensajes, que espero se entiendan por sí mismos.
Podría comenzar diciendo que el video está basado en una
fórmula que utilizó el artista M.C. Escher en uno de sus
cuadros titulado Print Gallery (1956) , y si bien esto es cierto,
la verdad es que está “inspirado” en el trabajo de Sebastián
Pérez Duarte, un fotógrafo sumamente creativo que encontré
en flickr.com y cuya obra me atrapó desde hace más de un
año.
I do not like to explain a work or an artwork, in fact this
is what i hate about contemporary art. having to read an
entire wall in a museum to understand why a spoon and
a plate represent something, I do not pretend to make
art, what i simply try is to experiment and develop certain
types of messages, which I hope they Hill make understandable by themselves.
Well, having raised all this, i could begin saying that the
video is based on a formula used by the artist MC Escher in
one of his paintings entitled Print Gallery (1956), in Fact the
truth is that my work is “inspired” in the work of Sebastian
Perez Duarte, a highly creative photographer I found on
flickr.com which captived me with his work since more

Toparme con su trabajo fue toda una delicia visual. Inmediatamente quise aprender a realizar imágenes semejantes, así
que investigué cómo se hacían. Fue hasta entonces cuando
me enteré que utilizaba la fórmula de Escher en el cuadro ya
mencionado; pasando las imágenes del plano de los números
reales al plano del los números complejos, realizándoles
diversas modificaciones en éste, para después regresarlas
nuevamente al plano de los números reales ya transformadas en este tipo de espirales.
A esta técnica se le conoce como efecto “Droste”, en honor a
una marca holandesa de chocolates con ese nombre, donde
el logotipo se repite dentro de sí una y otra vez.
Yo quería ver ese tipo de imágenes en movimiento. Ver la
“realidad” a través de esa perspectiva. Cuando aprendí a
realizar este tipo de imágenes, gracias al tutorial de Josh
than a year ago.

Sommers (Pisco Bandito), entendí por qué nadie lo había
hecho antes.
El código de la fórmula se había liberado recientemente al
público, y éste no era un plugin muy amigable que digamos.
No era como cualquier filtro de photoshop que procesa las
fotografías rápidamente; había que tomarlas de cierta manera, centrarlas, recortarlas, escribir la fórmula matemática
textualmente en un programa llamado Mathmap, el cual corre
dentro de otro programa llamado Gimp, y una vez completados todos estos pasos, cada fotografía podía
tardar hasta 15 minutos en procesarse.
Uno de esos días encontré que
un tipo llamado Bill Horne,
había tardado tan sólo 11
segundos en procesar
cada foto gracias a un
código que él mismo
había programado
en lenguaje Java.
Éste suceso fue
el detonante para
que me olvidara
de todo lo demás
que estaba haciendo con mi vida y
me dedicara de lleno
a levantar el proyecto.
Me comprometí a hacer
el video pero como no había disquera, había bastante
libertad pero no había tanto
presupuesto. Tuve que ingeniármelas
para poder adquirir el equipo necesario y
con la ayuda de Canon obtuve la cámara fotográfica que
necesitaba y con Adidas conseguí patrocinio de ropa para los
bailarines del video además de la cooperación de amigos y
compañeros de trabajo.
El video fue hecho con mucho cariño, depositándole mucha
energía, e invirtiéndole mucho tiempo. Espero en este texto
haber podido compartir mi experiencia.

Sommers (Pisco Bandit), I understood why they hadn´t
done it before.
The code of the formula was recently released to the
public, and this was not a very friendly plugin in a manner of speaking. It was not like any photoshop filter that
processes the photos quickly, the pictures had to be taken
a certain way, focusing them, cut them, type the mathematical formula in a program called Mathmap, which runs
within another program called Gimp, and once completed
all these steps, each photograph could take up to
15 minutes to be processed.
One of tose days I found someone
called Bill Horne, who found a way
to process the photo in only 11
seconds with a code that he
had programmed by him
self in Java. This Fac. was
the real trigger for me to
forget everything else
that I was doing in my
life and then started
fully devoted to work
on this project.
I was committed
to make the video.
There wasn’t record
company, that means i
had certain kind of freedom
to make it but the budget
was practically zero. I had to find
sponsoredship in Canon to get the
required camera and with Adidas i got
some clothes for the video dancers, resides
my friends and coworkers help.
The video was made with great affection, depositing a lot
of energy and investing long time. I hope i` I’ve could share
my experiencie with this text.

Pasos bajo un sol que entra hasta lo más profundo de
tu ser, que meses después resurge en tu interior con
sólo escuchar las primeras notas de Weird Fishes de
Radiohead.
Una energía que te invade y que hace que recuerdes la
larga caminata que diste en los largos kilómetros del
Grant Park en Chicago. Pasos que dabas de prisa para
ver una lista absurda de músicos, porque ni en sueños
hubieras podido imaginar un line up así.
Más de cien bandas de primera calidad, aunque confieso
que conocía sólo unas 20, las cuales resultaron más que
suficientes para comprar un boleto y lanzarme a la windy
city.Cinco meses duró la tortuosa espera hasta que por

Even though I was only familiar with 20 of the over 100
mainstream bands, it was enough reason for me to buy a
ticket and head to Chicago’s Grant Park. The tortuous wait
lasted five months until I headed to the developed world,
and I made it, regardless of an expired passport.
It was probably due to my misconception of Americans but
my idea of the country and the people inhabiting it didn’t
match with what I experienced during the three days as
I shared emotions and shivers with thousands of people,
living what I was living, smelling what I was smelling and
all of us equally overwhelmed. Joyfully confused I realized
that in the end it doesn’t really matter where you come
from, whether you have a visa or not, music moves us all
and represents the same to everyone. Standing together
trying to hold back the tears while listening to Radiohead
breathless and watching the lighted city in the night during
ten minutes of fireworks in absolute harmony with the
music, astounded, one explosion after another, thousands
of figures and silhouettes in the sky that as they fell gave
shape to new ones.
And it was only the first day. Caught completely in the
moment, I forgot that a few hours before I had seen a
lot of talented people. The Black Keys set me out on this
journey with their wailing guitars, Cat Power, completely
devoted to communicating their music with body and soul.
I missed out on Bloc Party and The Raconteurs while eating
a life-saving chunk of watermelon. After many hours under
the sun, the dancing and the excitement made me forget
I confirmed that when people
believe in something they just
stick to it, proof of it was the
garbage separation, personally
after four beers it’s difficult for
me but not for them.

administer my energy appropriately.
The following days were also intense but with different
frequencies of emotions and sounds. Lupe Fiasco, Brazilian
Girls, Chromeo, Jamie Lydell, Kanye West, Sharon Jones and
Booka Shade were among some of the bands I listened to.
I missed other bands either for the lack of a motorcycle or
because I couldn’t run as Forrest Gump. To give you an idea
of the incredible size of the festival, picture a football field.
Big, right? Well, this place is the size of 300 football fields.
It was so difficult to make a choice. Run across the field to
try and catch a familiar band or stay and let your feet dance
fin, con todo y pasaporte vencido, me lancé al primer
mundo.
Tal vez era por mi erróneo prejuicio de los gringos, pero
mi idea de este país y de las personas que lo habitan
no concordó con la realidad que viví durante tres días,
compartiendo emociones y escalofríos con miles de ellos,
viviendo lo mismo que yo, oliendo lo mismo que yo y
conmoviéndose de igual manera.
Y felizmente confundida me di cuenta de que al final de
cuentas importa un bledo de dónde vengas y si tienes
visa o no, la música mueve todo y tiene para todos el
mismo fin: estar parado, viendo hacia el frente, tratando
de contener las lágrimas al escuchar a Radiohead, ver la
ciudad iluminada de noche y observar sin aliento durante
diez minutos un espectáculo de fuegos artificiales en
perfecta sintonía con la música, sin respiro, sin descanso,
una explosión tras otra, miles de figuras y siluetas en el
cielo que caen formando nuevas figuras a su vez.
Y pensar que ésto era sólo el fin del primer día. Después
de ver lo que vi olvidé por momentos que había visto a
mucha más gente increíblemente talentosa pocas horas
antes; The Black Keys que con sus chillidos guitarrescos dieron inicio (para mí) a este gran viaje, Cat Power,
totalmente entregada a comunicar su música con cuerpo
y alma, Bloc Party y The Raconteurs, que no vi por comprarme un enorme pedazo de sandía que me salvó la vida
to the rhythm of a band that you had never heard of but
that sounded so good.
The organization behind the scenes was also fascinating. I
never understood how during three days no one ever said
to me “Sorry, we’re out of everything, there’s only beer”,
let alone the fact that despite there were so many people
that were hungry, hot and excited, I never had to wait for
more than five minutes in a line, either to buy some chicken
noodles or just to use the toilets. In fact, the guy who was
selling the noodles was in such a good mood that I wanted
to buy him a cold beer in appreciation of a job so well done.
Another thing that surprised me was the sign that hanging
in the booth when I decided to buy a shirt that read “All
t-shirts are made of recycled plastic from the last festival”.
Afterwards, I realized that it was almost six in the evening
and there was barely any trash on the ground. Everyone
joined in the sprit of recycling, putting bottles and glasses
in the provided containers.
Waiting in line to board the plane with a heart full of joy and
my feet still dancing, I wondered how long it would be before a festival like this took place in my country. I hope that
the wait won’t be long. Mexico is making rapid progress in
event organization and teaching its people the importance
of sustainability. On my side, I will start recycling tetra
paks and saving money for next year, oh, and renewing my
passport too.

fue votado como el mejor).
Era tan difícil decidir si correr y ver lo más posible o quedarte disfrutando de tus pies bailando solitos en la arena
de un campo de baseball, oyendo alguna banda que no
conocías, pero que sonaba tan bien.
Comprobé que si las personas creen en algo lo hacen
y basta, la prueba fue la separación de basura, que
personalmente después de 4 cervezas me resulta un
poco difícil, pero a ellos no. Era impresionante que aunque
fueran las seis de la tarde casi no había basura en el piso,
la gente seguía poniendo botellas y vasos en botes de
reciclaje y para colmo voy a comprar una playera y leo
un letrero que dice “todas las playeras son hechas del
plástico reciclado del festival anterior”.
Con el corazón lleno de felicidad y mis pies aún bailando
mientras hacía la fila del check-in, pensé en cuánto tiempo tendré que esperar para asistir a un festival así en mi
país y creo que la espera no tendrá que ser muy larga, lo
único necesario es un poco más de organización, teniendo
en mente la importancia de cada persona y de crear un
poco de consciencia. A mí no me resta mas que empezar
a reciclar los tetra paks y juntar dólares para el año que
entra. ¡Ah! y renovar mi pasaporte.

CELESTÚN
Puerto de pescadores situado a 96km al oeste de Mérida,
este lugar ofrece al turismo la belleza de su reserva natural
como principal atracción, los paseos por el río en lancha son
espectaculares, dos horas de recorrido valen la pena para
apreciar los espectáculos que la naturaleza ofrece.
La primer parada es en la unión del río y el mar donde diferentes matices de color aparecen resplandecientes con la
mezcla de la salinidad del océano y el agua dulce del río, más
adelante se encuentra el bosque petrificado que prácticamente es la sedimentación que se ha dado en los manglares
debido a los niveles de sal en el agua que con el pasar de
los años ha formado un suelo arenoso y ha secado la zona
dejando un rastro de troncos secos que parecieran ser de

The main attraction of this quaint fishing village, located
96 Km west of Merida , is the incredible beauty of its natural reserve. Not to be missed is the spectacular, two-hour
boat tour highlighting the shows that nature offers.
The first stop is at the junction of the river and the sea
where different shades of color glow from the mixture of
salinity of the ocean and the fresh water of the river. Next
is the petrified forest laying in the sedimentation of the
mangroves. The levels of salt in the water combined with
the passing of the years formed a sandy soil, drying the
area and leaving a trail of dry logs that seem to be made of
stone, giving life to a mysterious and surreal scene worthy
of being photographed.

Deep into the mangrove is “ the eye”, a space that invites
you to visit its docks and passages, leading to a natural
pool to cool off in the midst of nature right in the habitat

Tal vez uno de los lugares más bonitos de Vallarta. No puedo
hablar de él sin empezar por sus esculturas que son reconocidas a nivel mundial.
De inicio a fin el malecón está repleto de éstas, todas son
muy bellas pero yo me quedo con tres que siempre me llamaron mucho la atención. Sin ningún orden de gusto aparece, “la
nostalgia” obra del reconocido escultor Ramiz Barquet, donde
se muestra a una pareja sentada y cuya inspiración solo podía
venir del amor, del amor que siente el escultor por su esposa
Nelly.
“Los milenios”, del artista oaxaqueño Fernando Baños, obra
donde nos muestra en una parte, la espiral evolutiva de la vida
que se inició en el mar y otra donde muestra el inicio de la
historia a partir del nacimiento de Cristo.
Y la tercera titulada “en busca de la razón”, de Sergio Bustamante la cual simplemente es única, que con sólo verla
estoy seguro les aflorarán varios sentimientos y quedarán
sorprendidos de tan bonita obra.

Les recomiendo que recorran el malecón de principio a fin, ya
que todas las esculturas son muy bellas y estoy seguro que
encontrarán su o sus favoritas. Después de recorrer el malecón se darán cuenta que del otro lado de la calle se encuentran muchísimas tiendas, antros y restaurantes donde podrán
encontrar desde artesanías, joyas, los mejores platillos de la
región y obviamente la mejor vida nocturna.

En 1883 el presbítero don Sabino Virute bendijo y colocó la primera piedra de la Capilla de las Peñas. Pero no fue sino hasta
el 29 de abril de 1895 cuando el Dr. Don Ignacio Díaz y Macedo,
Obispo de Tepic, concedió la autorización para construir la
iglesia de las Peñas (como antiguamente se le conocía a Puerto Vallarta. Visítenla!

Malecon.
They are all beautiful, but three stand out in my mind. In
no particular order they are: “Nostalgia” by Ramiz Barquet,
which shows a seated couple, whose inspiration came
from the sculptor´s love for his wife, Nelly. “The Millenia”
from the artist, Mathis Lídice, symbolizes the passage of
time from the first living creatures emerging from the sea
to man’s evolution today. The third is titled “In Search of
Reason”, from Sergio Bustamante, and it is simply unique,
eliciting a myriad of emotions with just one glance, one that
I’m sure will surprise you with its beauty.
After you walk the Malecon from end to end I’m sure that
you will find favorites of your own. The other side of the
street is full of shops, bars and restaurants where you can
find everything from crafts and jewelry to the best regional
dishes and obviously, the best nightlife.
Perhaps, one of the prettiest places in
Vallarta is the Malecon, the walkway
along the shore with its world renowned sculptures.
Guadalupe Cathedral
In 1883 the Presbyterian clergyman Sabino Virute blessed
and laid down the foundation stone of the Capilla de Las Peñas. But it was not until April 29, 1895, that Dr. Ignacio Díaz
y Macedo, the Bishop of Tepic, authorized the construction
of the church of Las Peñas (as Puerto Vallarta was formerly
known). A must to visit!
The Rio Cuale Municipal Market and the Rio Cuale Island
If you are looking for crafts, jewelry, t-shirts, key chains, or
mugs, or are just the type of person who likes wander, then
the Municipal Market is the place for you to find a number of
things at a very good price.
The island of the same name also offers more shops and
stands as well as restaurants and bars.
WHERE TO EAT?
When it comes to food, there are two places that stand out.
La Dolce Vita, with its fabulous view of the Malecon, serves
some of the best Italian dishes in the area.
El Coleguita is the place to go if you are looking for fresh
seafood. They have two locations - one at the marina and
the other along the Ixtapa-Las Palamas highway.
Mercado Municipal Río Cuale e Isla Río Cuale
Si están buscando artesanías, joyería, playeras, llaveros,
tazas, etc., pero son de las personas que gustan del mercado,
les recomiendo que visiten el mercado municipal donde podrán encontrar un sin fin de cosas a muy buenos precios.
La isla del mismo nombre cuenta con tiendas y puestos, pero
también restaurantes y bares.

Si hablamos de comida, hablamos de dos lugares que de
verdad son exquisitos.
La Dolce Vita, restaurante italiano donde les juro que no van
a probar mejores platillos de ese país. A parte de tener una
hermosa vista que da al Malecón.
El Coleguita, talvez uno de los mejores restaurantes de mariscos que he ido en toda mi vida. De éste existen dos, uno en la
marina y otro sobre la carretera Ixtapa-Las palmas.
En fin no pueden dejar de ir a cualquiera de éstos.
Esto es solo un poco de lo que nos ofrece Vallarta, ya dependerá de cada uno de ustedes si quieren conocer mucho más!

En Yucatán habitan 2 de las 22 especies de mono araña
existentes, estas son el Ateles geoffroyi yucatanensis
y una subespecie en peligro de extinción en la región de
América Central llamada (Ateles geoffroyi).
Los principales problemas de conservación que afectan a
la supervivencia de los monos araña es la deforestación,
la caza ilegal y el comercio de mascotas (sí, es totalmente
ilegal tener un mono como mascota en México). Estos
animales se alimentan de frutas maduras principalmente

las estructuras que nos rodean de la misma forma que
cuando visitamos otra ciudad en calidad de turistas,
podríamos jactarnos de nuestro alto nivel de consumo
cultural todos los días. La necesidad o gusto de visitar
un museo, hospedarse en un hotel, entrar a un edificio o
simplemente caminar junto a cualquiera de estos inmuebles, convierte a la arquitectura en una especie de arte
utilitario con el que convivimos diariamente. Pero, ¿qué
hacer cuando se construye una estructura extraña que se
distancia de su contexto y, más que servir a su comunidad, se convierte en un imán de turistas? La respuesta es
sencilla: dar la bienvenida a la seguramente espectacular
obra de algún arquitecto estrella, también conocidos hoy

la arquitectura, incluso hasta ser reconocidos por el público general. La notoriedad de su obra y de ellos mismos
ha influido no sólo en el actual paisaje urbano de las ciudades más ricas del mundo, sino en la percepción misma
de lo que implica un plan de construcción. El impactante
éxito del Museo Guggenheim en Bilbao, España, de Frank
Gehry, se convirtió en innegable referencia al convertir un
área poco visitada de una ciudad estancada económicamente, en un sitio con prestigio y estabilidad financiera,
punto de visita obligado para cualquier turista.
De esta forma, desarrolladores inmobiliarios alrededor
del mundo han mostrado interés en trabajar con estas
luminarias por los obvios beneficios: convencer a municipios incrédulos de aprobar grandes proyectos, obtener
financiamiento o simplemente aumentar el valor de sus
edificios.
Sin embargo, al observar estos diseños icónicos y deslumbrantes en cualquier contexto, se vuelve necesario
cuestionar el papel de la arquitectura desde finales del
siglo pasado hasta por lo menos la década entrante,
cuando se terminen de construir varios edificios diseñados por estas estrellas. El Chicago Spire, de Santiago
Calatrava (español), el CaixaForum en Madrid, de Herzog &
de Meuron (suizos), y las Dancing Towers de Zaha Hadid
(iraní) en Dubai, serán nuevos ejemplos de cómo estos
starchitects se han puesto a contemplar al mundo como
si fuera su propia casa.
Después de la Segunda Guerra Mundial, la idea global del
surgimiento de una etapa de paz duradera tuvo injerencia
en varios aspectos sociales y culturales, incluyendo la
arquitectura. En esta época, cobijados bajo el modernismo, los arquitectos, quienes por vez primera comenzaban
a cruzar sus propias fronteras, veían el pasado como un
lastre del que se debían deshacer. La tendencia era comenzar de cero, buscando una calidad “internacional” neutralmente minimalista y de fácil lectura, que encontraron
al emplear formas geométricas elementales, materiales

chitects whose celebrity and critical acceptance has turned
them into idols in the world of architecture, so much so as
to even be recognized by the general public. Their visibility,
and that of their work, has influenced not just the current
urban landscape of the richest cities in the world, but also
the perception of what a construction plan is. The striking
success of Frank Gehry’s Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao,
Spain, became an undeniable example of this phenomenon
when it converted an economically stagnant and rarely
visited area of the city into a tourist destination of prestige
and financial stability.
Because of the popularization of architects, real estate
developers around the world have shown interest in working with these luminaries for the obvious benefits: their
ability to convince municipality skeptics to approve major
projects, to get funding, or simply to increase the value of
their buildings.
However, to observe these designs that are iconic and dazzling in any context, it becomes necessary to question the
role of architecture from the end of the last century through

After World War II, the emerging global concept of an era
of lasting peace permeated various social and cultural
aspects, including architecture. During this period, sheltered under modernism, the architects, who for the first
time began crossing their own borders, saw the past as a
burden from which they had to free themselves. The idea
was to start at zero, look for an “international” quality that

instead a historic style that attempts to recover the figurative ornament and juxtaposition. Its foundation, inspired by
semiotics so fashionable in the seventies, is that the architecture can be built as a linguistic system: each building
should be a “bearer of meaning,” containing in it references
and symbols that communicate its own context. The result
was a kind of neo-eclectic product that borrowed forms
from all historical periods.
Paradoxically, the success the postmodern architects encountered led to the application of their style as universally

The main exponents of these two architectural styles, essential to understanding the
current state of architecture, are considered
pioneer starchitects today. Mies van der
Rohe, Aldo Rossi, Norman Foster, Renzo
Piano, Ricardo Legorreta and César Pelli,
among others, laid the groundwork for
this new era, which Hans Ibelings called
supermodernism in his book “Architecture
in the Age of Globalization.” That is, a style
in which technological improvements
and building materials help to create light
and quasi-transparent structures, with
a notable lack of attention to any kind
of formal and contextual consideration,
filling the cities with architectural models
that can no longer be described with
precision.
If the history of architecture is, like that
of the arts in general, a reflection of the

de mayo de 1904 en Figueres, España,
como hijo de un notario y de una ama de
casa aficionada a los pájaros, desarrollando su talento de
pintor a una temprana edad. A los 14 años ya presentaba
algunas de sus primeras pinturas en una exposición de
artistas locales celebrada en el Teatro Municipal de su
ciudad natal.
El camino hacia el arte estaba ya trazado, ya que en 1921
se traslada a Madrid, para estudiar en la Academia de
Bellas Artes de San Fernando, pero la enseñanza artística
le pareció demasiado conservadora y no fue suficiente
para él.

born in 1904 in Figueres, Spain,
the son
of a public notary and a housewife.
He developed his talent for painting very early on. By the
age of 14 he had already shown several paintings in a local
artist exhibition in his home town theatre. With his path to
art preordained, he moved to Madrid in 1921 to study at the
School of Fine Arts at San Fernando, however, he found the
curriculum too conservative and felt it lacking.
Of far more biographical importance was his acquaintance
with the playwright-to-be Federico García Lorca and the
greatest of all Surrealist directors, Luis Buñuel, with whom
Dalí would later collaborate as a writer.
The intractable Dalí was suspended from the academy in
1924 when his leadership of a student revolt resulted in his

After his military service, Dalí went to Paris and through

Bien vale la pena ver esta secuencia del sueño de
Spellbpund o por lo menos un fragmento de ”Destino” en
internet ya que aún no es posible obtenerlo completo
ni comprarlo. Es como ver y vivir un cuadro de Dalí en
movimiento, es tan intrigante e hipnotizante como el
mismo Dalí, quien se definió a sí mismo como “perverso polimorfo, rezagado y anarquizante”, “blando, débil y
repulsivo”, como sus pinturas reflejo de sus sueños, que

by Walt Disney and based on a song with the same name
by the Mexican, Armando Rodríguez. However, except
for an 18 second preview, this film was never finished. It
wasn’t until 2003, when Roy Disney, Walt’s grandson and
the producer Baker Bloodworth decided to finish this magnificent creation by following the step-by-step indications
and oil sketches that Dali worked on for over two months.
“Destiny” was nominated for an Oscar in 2004 and won
several awards like the Grand Prize in the Rhode Island
Film Festival, another in Melbourne, and Chicago.
In the beginning of September of this current year, I had the
marvelous opportunity to see “Spellbound”, “An Andalusian
Dog” and “Destiny” in an exposition dedicated to Dalí’s work
in painting and film at the MOMA in New York. Several
sketches and paintings for these and other projects were
exhibited, and of course a lot of his famous masterpieces
like “Crucifixion” or “Corpus Hipercubicus”, “The Invisible
Man”, “The Lobster Telephone”, amongst others.
His paintings reflect his dreams ever much so that upon
waking and before doing anything else, he would describe
his dreams in as much detail as possible in a notebook that
he kept in this bedroom. It is really worthwhile to watch
the dream sequence in “Spellbound” or at least a fragment
of “Destiny” on the internet, as it is not possible to obtain
the complete version nor is it for sale yet. It is like watching
and living a Dalí’s painting in movement, it’s as intriguing
and hypnotizing as Dalí in person, who defined himself as
a “perverse polymorph, backwards and anarchic”, “soft,
weak and repulsive”.

Technology is currently proceeding at a fast rate, we live immersed
in a globalized world
donde la tecnología forma parte de nuestra vida cotidiana,
la encontramos en la casa, en el trabajo, en la calle, en
la televisión, en el hospital y hasta en nuestros bolsillos
con los teléfonos celulares y demás. Uno de los ámbitos
donde este avance es notable y hace su acto de presencia
es en la música.
La mayor parte del tiempo estamos ocupados sobreviviendo y preocupándonos de nuestros propios problemas
muchas veces sin tener una percepción del tiempo que
empleamos cumpliendo con las obligaciones. Cuando
por fin encuentras un momento de dispersion y te das un
tiempo para curiosear y ver el mundo, te das cuenta que
ya existe una computadora mejor que la que compramos
3 meses antes, que tu teléfono celular el cual pensabas
era el más cool y apantallador ahora es uno de los viejos,
y navegando por internet te enteras, de que a alguién se
le ocurrió desarrollar una mesa que produce sonidos con
solo tocarla y que jamás pensaste que existiría algo así.
Esta mesa de la que hablo es el proyecto “Reactable”, es
un promotor increíble para descubrir y conocer de una
manera más perceptible al mundo de los sonidos, despertando el sentido auditivo ayudado de otros como la vista
y el tacto. Este proyecto además de ser un sistema multitouch, es un impresionante instrumento musical, dirigido
por el Doctor Sergi Jorda del ‘Music Technology Group’ de
la universidad Pompeu Fabra en Barcelona.
El Reactable es una mesa en la que podemos posicionar
diferentes objetos que funcionan como identidades a
nivel de generación sonora. Combinando los objetos, su
posicion y el movimiento, obtenemos una infinidad de

Fabra University in Barcelona, Spain, this multi-user device
allows you to position objects that are programmed for different levels of noise generation. By combining the position
and movement of these objects, we get a myriad of electronic sounds. Based on the idea of a modular synthesizer,
this is an extremely intuitive and enormously expressive
