Dear Parishioners,
Happy and Blessed New year’s everyone!
Wow, December was quite a month of liturgical prayer here at St. Joseph; Advent season, our
Wednesday evening candlelight services, The Solemnity of The Immaculate Conception of Mary, The
Feast of our Lady of Guadalupe, Christmas, the Octave of Christmas, and finally rounding out the month
and in fact the 2014 year with a beautiful candle light
vigil Mass for the Solemnity of the Blessed Virgin
Mary, Mother of God. All this prayer has been a
blessing for our parish!
I mention this because its important for us Catholics
to be reminded that through the Holy Sacrifice of the
Mass, heaven and earth meet right here in our midst,
right here in our parish church of St. Joseph! And by
our active, reverent, prayerful, intentional participation of the holy celebration of the Eucharist, together
we are already uniting ourselves with the heavenly
liturgy and anticipating the eternal life, when God will
be all in all.
Speaking of heavenly liturgies, I want to offer a
heartfelt thank you to all our choir members and as
well to all our volunteers for whom Mass was offered
for on December 27th at the 4:30pm Vigil. There
are a number of dedicated people who serve our parish on a regular basis offering of their time, skills and
gifts, and some do so behind the scenes such as
those who wash and iron our Mass linens, take care
of our flower arrangements, collection counters and
those who straighten up and tidy up our Church after
each weekend. To all, thank you.
I also want to thank in a very special way Elizabeth
Oishi, my transitional coordinator during these past
few months. Elizabeth has been a great blessing to
me by her many hours of dedicated and joyful volunteer work in assisting me in doing God’s work here at
St. Joseph. There has been no chore or job too small
or unpleasant that Elizabeth has not been willing to
do in service for our parish church and community.
Although not without some trials, I believe 2015 will
be a very exciting, positive and fruitful year for our
parish of St. Joseph. Together through our intentional prayer, faithfulness and deep trust in God, God will
shower many blessings on us, and our parish.
I have lot’s more to say but we’ll save that for later.

PARTNERS IN THE PROMISE
As a society, during these days we can be in
something of a “postpartum” depression. Our celebrations of Christmas and the New Year are over,
and after today many of us will put away the decorations and the last visible remnants of the celebrations
of the past weeks. The apostle Paul today uses the
expression “partners in the promise.” This is an uplifting phrase for us to reflect upon, and to think of
as our own calling in these days following the birth of
the Lord. What is this promise? We can find it in the
gifts the magi bring: it is a promise of being a royal
priesthood (gold), a holy nation (frankincense), a
people set apart for self-giving (myrrh). We find
more of the promise in Isaiah—a light shines upon
us! In the psalm we know a promise of a world of
flowering justice, profound peace, the poor rescued,
pity for the lowly and the poor. This is the promise;
and one of the best ways for us to lift ourselves out
of any possible low spirits we may be suffering is to
live out our partnership in this promise each and

Queridos feligreses,
¡Les deso a todos un Feliz y un Bendito Año Nuevo!
¡Wow! El mes de diciembre fue un mes litúrgico de
oración aquí en San José; con la temporada de Adviento, con los miércoles de oración y misa candelaria,
con la Solemnidad de la Inmaculada Concepción de
María, con la fiesta de la Virgen de Guadalupe, con la
Navidad, con la celebración de los ocho días de Navidad, y finalmente para concluir las celebraciones, la
misa víspera de la Solemnidad de la Santa Virgen María, Madre de Dios. Todas estas oraciones han sido
una bendición para nuestra parroquia.
Mencionó esto porque es importante para nosotros
Católicos que debemos recordar que por medio del
Santísimo Sacrificio de la misa, el cielo y la tierra sé
unen aquí en nuestro alrededor, aquí en nuestra parroquia de San José! Por medio de nuestra participación activa, reverenda, piadosa, e intencional en la
celebración de la Sagrada Eucaristía, juntos nos estamos uniendo con la liturgia celestial en la anticipación
de la vida eterna cuando Dios estará en todo con todos.
Hablando acerca de la liturgia celestial, quiero ofrecer
un agradecimiento de todo corazón a todos los voluntarios de nuestra iglesia por quienes ofrecimos la misa
el 27 de diciembre a las 4:30 p.m.. Hay un grupo de
gente dedicados al servicio de nuestra parroquia que
regularmente da de su tiempo, sus habilidades,
talentos y también las personas que no son visibles y
trabajan 'detrás de las cortinas' cómo las que lavan y
planchan los manteles de la iglesia, las que arreglan
las flores, las que cuentan la limosnas semanalmente,
y también las personas que ponen en orden la iglesia.
A todos, muchas gracias.
También quiero agradecer en una manera muy especial a Elizabeth Oishi, mi coordinadora de transiciones
durante estos últimos meses. Elizabeth ha sido una
gran bendición para mi por las muchas horas que ha
dedicado voluntariamente con gozo en asistirme en
hacer el trabajo de Dios aquí en San José. No habido
ningún trabajo demasiado pequeño o desagradable
que Elizabeth no ha estado dispuesta para cumplir en
servicio de nuestra parroquia y comunidad.
Aunque tendremos muchas pruebas y contratiempos
en el 2015, yo creo que será un año excitante, positivo, y fructífero para nuestra parroquia de San José.

PARTICIPANTES EN LA PROMESA
Las celebraciones de Navidad y Año Nuevo se
han terminado, y después de hoy Día de los Reyes
Magos, muchos de nosotros guardaremos las decoraciones y los últimos vestigios de las celebraciones de
las semanas pasadas. El apóstol Pablo usa la expresión “participantes de la promesa”. Esta es una
frase digna de reflexionar, y de pensar que es nuestro llamado en estos días después del nacimiento del
Señor. ¿Cuál es esta promesa? Podemos encontrarla
en los regalos que traen los magos: la promesa de
ser un sacerdocio real (oro), una nación santa
(incienso), un pueblo escogido para dar de sí (mirra).
Encontramos otro aspecto de la promesa en Isaías
‑¡una luz que nos alumbra! En el salmo encontramos
la promesa de un mundo en donde florece la justicia,
la paz profunda, los pobres rescatados, piedad para
los humildes y los pobres. Esta es la promesa; y una
de las mejores maneras de continuar el espíritu de
generosidad navideña es vivir día a día nuestra parte
como participantes en esta promesa.
