Residents Attend
First Bolt Removal
Ceremony
On October 22, Holly
residents attended a
ceremony inside the
power plant site to mark
the removal of the first bolt
and initiate the demolition
process by the contractor,
TRC. Approximately 75
residents attended the
event that was hosted
by Mayor Leffingwell and
Austin Energy (AE). AE
General Manager, Larry
Weis, introduced the
Holly Decommissioning
Committee members
and thanked them for
their hard work. Council
member Mike Martinez
thanked the residents for
coming to commemorate
this long anticipated event.
Members of the committee
and other residents that
have participated in
the effort to shut down
the power plant then
proceeded to turn the two
wrenches that removed
the first bolts from the
power plant.
TRC continues to work
with AE and Weston, the
engineering firm:
• TRC continues to submit
all required documents
for review and approval
by AE and Weston.
When all submittals
have been reviewed and
approved, TRC will begin
the actual removal work.
• TRC has installed
monitoring equipment
and tests equipment
at the plant that will
monitor all vibrations
caused by their work.
• 13 job application forms
have been requested to
date. Job applications
can be obtained at any
of four locations in
the neighborhood:
Metz Recreation Center,
Camacho Activity Center,
Cristo Rey Parish Hall, and
Metz Elementary school.
• A website dedicated
to the Holly plant
decommissioning has
been established.

The Holly Decommissioning Committee meeting
was held on October 18. The following items
were discussed:
• A parking lot at the Metz Recreation center to
accommodate visitors to the center during the
demolition work will be built by TRC first, followed
by construction of the road connecting the plant
entrance to Pedernales street.
• Neighborhood safety is of concern; therefore
committee members and their neighborhood
coordinators will distribute demolition project
information flyers door-to-door throughout
the neighborhood.
