From The Pastor’s Desk
Fame
Brothers and Sisters, we are now
just about one month into 2015. We
look around and we think we see
heroes around us. Whether they be
from the sports world or the
entertainment industry, our children,
yes even those of us we call adults,
we are enamored by these “stars.”
However at times some of these socalled “stars” fall from grace.
Whether it is a sports hero or an
entertainer who makes mistakes, we
need to realize that we are all
imperfect people living in an
imperfect world imperfectly. Father
Dietz, my philosophy professor at
Cathedral College, taught us this in
the college seminary. Also, one of the
philosophical principles to keep in
mind: Never Deny, Seldom Affirm,
Always Distinguish!
We need to make good
judgments in our lives, but we need
to base these judgments and
decisions on our Faith. Our faith
comes from Jesus Christ, the Son of
God. In today’s gospel the last line
reads:
His fame spread everywhere
throughout the whole region of
Galilee. MARK 1: 28
Christ is not a rock star; not a
sports figure, entertainer, a president
or CEO of a major corporation, but
He is more than these: HE IS OUR
GOD! In the fullness of time God, the
Father, sent his Son, so that we could
have life and have it to the full! Not
only that but after Jesus’ death and
Resurrection, He sent us the third
person of the Holy Trinity, the Holy
Spirit, to help us, to guide us. We
Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time
are so blessed as Catholics, as
members of St. Rosalie’s parish. Let
us live in God’s Blessing. Let us
realize that Christ’s fame is real. That
Jesus Christ talked the talk but he
also walked the walk for you and
me.
Faith, Food and Fun Dinner
Discussion Series: Winter
2015
Do you want to have a
stimulating evening with other
parishioners on a cold winter night?
This idea began with a call I
received from Gaetano at one of the
local restaurants with suggesting a
dinner venue and discussion about
our Catholic Faith. So we are going
to have four dinner meetings on the
following Wednesday evenings:
February 11, February 25, March 4
and March 11, 2015. February 18 is
Ash Wednesday so there will be no
dinner meeting that evening. It will
take place at Cucina’s Restaurant in
Hampton Bays. Maybe you came
back to the Church at Christmas! This
is a way to think about Staying With
Us! Or maybe you love practicing
your faith but would enjoy having
dinner with fellow parishioners and
enjoying a conversation about our
faith with others in our community.
Please call Linda at the Parish Center
to make dinner reservations 631728-9461. The cost is $30 per
person.
Questions on My Catholic
Faith I Am Afraid to Ask!
your participation. If you have a
question, submit it in an email to me:
[email protected] or drop it
off at the Parish Center this week
before February 9. I will answer as
many questions as we can on that
evening. SAVE the DATES of
February 11 and 25; and March 4
and 11. I hope to enjoy dinner and
discussion with many of you! More
details to follow! I am very open to
other venues and creative ways to
talk about our faith to others in our
community.
Family Ministry Meeting
February 3 at 7 p.m.
With the Mardi Gras/Carnivale
Parish party coming up on Tuesday,
February 17, it’s a great time to
meet. This is our annual family and
parishioner get-together with fun for
all ages. Interested in being part of
our Family Ministry Committee? Help!
We need you to be part of this
rewarding Family Ministry Committee
which runs this yearly Mardi Gras
party. Please join us! Please call the
Parish Center at 631-728-9461 to
let us know you want to be a part of
this Planning committee. This Annual
Mardi Gras party is a fun evening
with families and parishioners, the
day before Ash Wednesday. Mardi
Gras falls this year on Tuesday,
February 17 at 6 p.m. in the
Community Center.
One winter month down, enjoy
February!
God Bless you all!

“Dancing on the Head of a Pin: The Angelic Doctor on Angelic Natures.”
A Workshop on Angels.
What are angels? What do they do? How are they different from us, and
why do we sometimes confuse them with God? Why are angels good and
demons bad, and why can’t demons be forgiven? How do angels see? Are
we simply angels covered in skin? What can angels make me think, and
what can’t they make me do? What is it like to stand in a crowd of angels,
and why doesn’t that make a lot of sense?
These are just some of the questions that can be legitimately posed about
those interesting creatures called angels. Please join us for a five-week
workshop in which we will consider what one of the greatest minds in human history said
about the issue, Doctor of the Church, St. Thomas Aquinas.
