The Mesquite Resort Association(MRA) Board of Directors
recently announced the call for donation requests for the calendar
year 2006. All qualifying 501C3 groups and public entities are
invited to apply for funding.
La Junta Directiva de la Mesquite Resort Association (MRA)

Over the past year, more than $50,000 has been distributed to local
charitable organizations. Recipients have included: The Boy
Scouts, The Girl Scouts, The Rape Crisis Center, The Mesquite
Cancer Society, Virgin Valley Theatre Group, The Salvation
Army, Dollars for Scholars and many more.

organization’s mission statement. Board members feel their

association’s philanthropy efforts and are conscious of where the

s I look over this valley, I am constantly amazed
at the continued growth of our community. One
thing that never changes is the positive small town
qualities of friendship that make this town a home
for so many of us. Over the past year, I have seen our
neighbors come together in times of flood, loss of
property and loss of community leaders. I am proud
to stand beside each of you to work hard to continue
to make the Virgin Valley a wonderful community
and a reflection of quality growth.

And speaking of growth, our advisory boards
recently created new goals and ideas that will build
on our partnerships and create even greater opportunities to
serve you. As we review and update our current policies and
procedures, we want to continue to provide good
stewardship for the citizens of Mesquite.

We encourage each of you to take advantage of the upcoming events planned through the Mesquite Resort Association
Health & Wellness Foundation. They are all designed to
provide improved health education and resources for all ages
of the community.

Appreciation Dinner
A
strong advisory board of directors, often called the
backbone of an organization, is vital in helping the Mesquite
Resort Association (MRA) fulfill its mission to serve and
interact with the residents within the Mesquite community
and to improve the overall quality of life.
For the past three years, the MRA has hosted a board appreciation dinner to acknowledge our advisory board members
who spend their valuable time and dedication working on
various projects for the betterment of our community.
“Our board members blend public opinion, their knowledge
of business affairs and innovating thinking into decisions
and policy that will best benefit the Mesquite community,”
said George Rapson, president of the MRA. “The board is
committed more than ever to one shared vision of success.”
Through their support, the advisory boards have been a link
of communication and interaction with the citizens,
charitable organizations and various groups within the City
of Mesquite and surrounding communities. They meet
monthly to review events and functions going on in the city
and determine how the MRA can support or help to make
them a success. They also provide fresh insights, powerful
connections, and access to valuable resources.
The Advisory Board consists of Chuck Thompson, Darlene
Montague, Ardelle Wachter, Terry McArthur, Marco
Ruelas, Theron Jenson, Nick Montoya, Alice Crites, and
Riley Frei. The Health & Wellness Foundation Board consists of Chief Derek Hughes, Sue Conley, Erica Garrett,
Lloyd Gatherum, Bill McClure, Judy and Ray Metz, John
Higley, and Dr. Jarred Johnson.
The advisory boards, ensure the MRA has the resources it
needs to create a vision for the future. Without solid and
committed leadership from our advisory boards, it is impossible for a program to make the leap from good to great.

comunicación e interacción con los ciudadanos y las organizaciones de caridad y grupos dentro de Mesquite y comunidades aledañas. Se reúnen cada mes para revisar eventos y
funciones que estén sucediendo en la ciudad y determinar
como MRA puede apoyar o ayudar hacelos un éxito. Ellos
proveen ideas frescas, conexiones poderosas y acceso a
valiosos recursos.

t some point during each of our lives, we all
are going to need some type of assistance – be it
moral, physical or even financial. Most of the time
we can turn to family, friends or even our church to
help us through trying times, but there are
circumstances when even those in your support
system cannot help. That is when you can turn to
an organization that has the expertise to advise you
on your problem. In many instances the
organization can help you through challenging
times and offer solutions to solve your problem.

Resort Association (MRA) was proud and delighted to be

far in 2005 and looks forward to continuing support next

Since its inception in 1996, the MRA has assisted nonprofit organizations and the City of Mesquite through
generous donations. The MRA is a recognized entity whose
mission and purpose is to serve and interact with the
residents of Mesquite and to improve the overall quality of
life. This is implemented through business development,
charitable donations, community partnerships and the MRA
Health and Wellness Foundation. The MRA will continue
to generate revenues, create employment opportunities and
strive to ensure Mesquite is a good place to live, work and
raise a family.
Desde su nacimiento en 1996 la MRA ha asistido a organizaciones sin fines de lucro y a la ciudad de Mesquite a través
de donaciones generosas. La MRA es una entidad reconocida cuya misión y propósito de servir e interactuar con los residentes de Mesquite y sobretodo mejorar su calidad de vida.
Esto esta implementado a través de desarrollo de negocios,

The positive interaction between the MRA, public services
and the citizens of Mesquite ensure that we will continue to
grow, prosper and face the changes that growth inevitably
brings. We know that by working together we will stay a
close knit community through the years ahead.

of its former chair Dr. R. Bruce Moody who died
May 31 after a long and courageous struggle with

Policy For Donation Request
Organizations who would like to be considered for a donation from the Mesquite Resort Association must be a 501 (c)(3) organization to qualify
or fax to Corey Crowder at (702) 433-4566 and will comply to the following guidelines.
1. Obtain application and submit to:

Mesquite, NV 89024
2. Request must be received by October 31st prior to the next funding year. The MRA Advisory Board will advise on what organizations should
be considered for inclusion into budget prior to submittal to the MRA Board for approval.
3. MRA will notify organizations of approval or denial of request.
4. All organizations will be required to appear before the MRA Board of Directors to give a 3 minute presentation on their organization. Please
include how you plan to recognize the MRA for its donation.
5. Applications must be submitted on a yearly basis.
6. Schedule of request process:
A. October 31st – application is due
B. November – Advisory board reviews applications
C. December – Advisory board develops preliminary budget for Board of Directors
D. January – Budget is reviewed, amended if necessary and approved by Board of Directors
