NOTES FOR THE OFFICE.. If you know that you are picking up your child early from school for an appointment,
please send a note in notifying the teacher/main office. For the safety of your child, this will help us to be aware of who
will be entering the building. If you need to pick up your child due to an emergency, please call the school prior to your
arrival. These procedures are set in place so that we will be aware of who will be entering our building on any given day.
We appreciate your cooperation with these procedures.
NOTAS PARA LA OFICINA… Si usted sabe que va recoger a su su hijo/a temprano para una cita, favor de enviar una
nota al maestro/a o la oficina. Para la seguridad de su niño, asi estaremos pendiente quien entra al edificio. Si acaso tiene
una emergencia y necesita recoger al niño temprano favor de llamar a la oficina lo mas pronto possible. Estos
procedimientos estan para protger a su hijo. Agradecemos su cooperacion.
VISITORS… All Visitors entering Hopeville School MUST report to the main office. You are required to have
identification with you in order to be given a visitor pass which must be visible at all times while you are in the building.
VISITANTES…Todos los visitantes entrando al edificio TIENEN que reportarse a la oficina y presentar identificacion.
Se le dara un pase que sera visible mientras este dentro del edificio.
FOOD ALLERGY REMINDER…Due to the numerous food allergies in the building we are asking that you do not
send in any outside food for any reason. If you want to celebrate your child’s birthday with a small token (i.e., glow stick,
pencil, small pad, etc) that is fine.
RECORDATARIO… Tenemos varios estudiantes que tienen alergias en el edificio, por esta razón estamos pidiendo que
no envien comida al salón de su hijo/a. En vez de enviar bizcochospara celebrar el cumpleaño pueden regalar un lapiz,
una borra, etc.
ATTENDANCE REMINDER
Parents please keep in mind that ALL tardies/early dismissals are now held against the students’ academic record, which
means that points are taken off their grades for every tardy/dismissal. The policy is posted at the school website –

PHYSICAL EDUCATION
Turkey Trot Update: The Turkey Trot on November 25th was a success. We raised $409.25. This money will go toward
field day at the end of the school year. Thanks to all the parent volunteers, your help was greatly appreciated!!
Remember to dress your children in sneakers on their gym days. It is not safe for them to play in any other shoes. They
may have to sit out of class if they aren't wearing sneakers. If your child needs to wear boots to school, send their
sneakers in their book bags so that they can change before Physical Education Class. Thank you, Mrs. Stone.

NEWS AROUND THE HALLWAYS
Kindergarten
Happy New Year! We are working hard in kindergarten. This month we will be working on reading and writing
our sight words and decodable words. We are continuing to practice writing our upper and lowercase letters with the
correct letter formation.
We are excited to be learning about winter weather and will soon move onto learning about people in our
community. In math we will be concentrating on addition and subtraction, teen numbers, and story situations for students
to solve.
Please continue to dress your child for cold weather. If you child is wearing a long sleeve shirt under their short
sleeves, IT MUST BE SCHOOL COLOR. Thank you for understanding.

repasando las palabras de alta frecuencia. Por favor continúe leyendo con su hijo(a) los libros enviados y repase el

Grade 1
Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!
As our students get back to their daily routines, we remind you that your first grader needs to read every night. We are
working on long vowel sounds along with understanding events in a story. In math, we continue to work on place value
and comparing numbers. As the weather gets colder, be sure to send your child in with hats and gloves and winter coats as
we may go outside for recess. Reminder - Please put any money that comes into school with your child in an envelope or
a baggie with your child’s name on it.

A medida que nuestros estudiantes vuelven a sus rutinas diarias , le recordamos que su niño de primer grado tiene que leer
todas las noches . Estamos trabajando en los sonidos de la vocal larga junto con la comprensión de los acontecimientos
en una historia. En matemáticas , seguimos trabajando en el valor de posición y los números que comparan . A medida
que el clima se pone más frío , asegúrese de enviar a su hijo con los sombreros y guantes y abrigos de invierno como
podemos ir al recreo si la temperatura esta tolerable . Recordatorio - Por favor, ponga el dinero que usted manda a la

Grade 2
December has been quite a month. Temperatures mild enough for outdoor recess, yet cool enough to need coats. No snow,
no ice, Lucky us. Here in grade2 we have been working on our story Boy Were We Wrong About Dinosaurs. The students
have enjoyed learning about fossils and paleontologists. We continue learning non-fiction text features. In Math we are
solving multi-step words problems using different strategies. Whenever possible show your children money and talk about
the value. Veterans Day, Thanksgiving lessons are all just a memory now. Seasonal weather, non-fiction texts and Martin
Luther King are on the agenda in January. Student projects will be due soon, don’t forget to ask about them! Happy

Diciembre ha sido un mes con muchas actividades. El tiempo ha estado lo suficientemente templado para salir afura
durante el recreo, todavía esta fresco pero si necesitamos abrigos. No hay nieve, no hay hielo, suerte para nosotros. En el
2nd grado hemos estado trabajando en nuestra historia acerca de los dinosaurios. Los estudiantes han disfrutado y han
aprendiendo sobre los fósiles y paleontólogos. En matemáticas estamos resolviendo problemas de varios pasos utilizando
diferentes estrategias especialmente; la forma larga y las unidades de diez. Siempre que sea posible muestre monedas a
sus niños y hable con ellos sobre el valor. El Día de los Veteranos y el Dia de Acción de Gracias son todos sólo un
recuerdo ahora. En enero continuaremos con los textos de no ficción y Martin Luther King. Todos los estudiantes tienen
que hacer su Proyecto del pinguinio, el cual debe de estar en la escuela en enero, toda la informacion sera enviada a la
casa. ¡Feliz Navidad!

Grade 3
The third graders have been very busy examining new stories and connecting previously read stories to identify the
author’s message and overall theme in a story. Have students read to you and identify what is the message or lesson in the
story. We are now beginning to shift over to more non-fiction stories, as well as biographies. We were also reading a
story called “14 Cows for America”. Students did many activities related to this story. Ask them about those activities
and which they enjoyed the most.
In math we are working on finding the perimeter and area. We are now moving into telling time, and determining elapsed
time. Please practice the skill of telling time and elapsed time whenever possible at home. Many students continue to
struggle with the multiplication and division facts. It is important to practice these daily. Please continue reading every
night and practicing math facts during the winter vacation.

Los estudiantes de tercer grado han estado muy ocupados examinando historias nuevas y conectando historias que ya han
leído para identificar el mensaje del autor y determinar cuál es el tema o mensaje central de la historia. Practique la
lectura con su hijo/a y deje que ellos les expliquen cual es el tema y mensaje central en cada historia que lean. Estamos
también enfocándonos más en historias reales (no ficticias) y biografías. Estuvimos leyendo una historia titulada “14
vacas para América” Los estudiantes desarrollaron varias actividades relacionada con la historia. Pregúntele de que se
trataba la historia y que fue lo que más les gustó.
En Matemáticas estamos encontrando el área y perímetro. Estamos ya moviéndonos a identificar la hora, especialmente a
determinar el tiempo transcurrido entre una actividad y otra. Por favor continúe practicando con ellos cuando les sea
posible. Muchos estudiantes continúan teniendo dificultades en los factores de multiplicación y división. Es muy
importante que sigan practicando las tablas y los factores diariamente. No se olviden de practicar la lectura diaria y los
factores de matemáticas durante las vacaciones de invierno.

We cannot believe the holidays are already upon us and 2016 is quickly approaching!! When we return from break we
will continue to explore fractions and work on our character traits and conflicts in reading!! Ask your child to tell you
about our mentor text we've been reading together called "Flutter". We wish you a happy and safe Holiday Season and
enjoy your break!! Please be sure to read nightly and practice math facts!!!

Following the vacation, the students will be focusing on sharpening multiplication and division skills in Math. We will
display our progress in Reading by way of the Middle of the Year testing that will run through the month of January.
Have an excellent winter break with your respective families, and we will see you in 2016! If you have the chance over
the break, do some reading!
