Dear Friends in Christ,
We are back to the numbered Sundays of Ordinary
Time as we celebrate the 11th Sunday in Ordinary Time..
(The past 2 Sundays of Ordinary Time were special solemnities
for the Holy Trinity and the Body & Blood of Christ.) Next
Sunday, June 24th, we celebrate the Solemnity of the Birth
of John the Baptist. Besides the celebration of Jesus’ birth
on Dec. 25th, John’s and the Virgin Mary’s (Sept. 8) are the
only other births on the liturgical calendar.
The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops
has called for Catholics and other concerned about threats
to religious freedom to become involved in a Fortnight for
Freedom June 21-July 4. All are urged to participate in
this 14-day period of prayer, education, and action in
support of religious liberty. To begin the Fortnight for
Freedom a Mass will be celebrated at the Cathedral of
Our Lady of Perpetual Help by Archbishop Paul Coakley
on Friday, June 22nd at 6 p.m. “A Rally for Religious
Freedom” will be held at the Cox Convention Center on
Saturday, June 23rd from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. This is an
ecumenical event which will feature the following
speakers:
Archbishop Coakley, Steve Ray, William
Federer, Teresa Collette, Rebecca Hamilton, and more.
Admission is free, but there is a $10 suggested donation.
Last weekend’s bulletin contained a diagram showing
the areas of our parish facilities which are closed off by the
construction repairs taking place through early August.
These diagrams are available on the round table in the
narthex and also on the countertop in the old narthex. The
following Staff members have been relocated to temporary
offices: Judi Wilkinson, Pastoral Associate for Formation
& Education to the old Confessional across from the
chapel; Sharan Amend, Parish Accountant, to the former
parish nurse’s office; and Gloria Pantazis to the old
cryroom. Coffee and donuts after the 9:30 a.m. Mass will
be in the old church, which is being converted into a parish
hall. The Meeting Rooms are accessible only by way of
the far N.W. entrance to our facilities by the Youth Room.
DVD’s of the April 20th Dedication Mass can be
ordered at the parish office for $10. Thanks to Cordell
Jordan for filming the Dedication Mass and then editing it
to this “shortened” 2 hour version. Proceeds of these
DVD sales go to the New Church Fund.
I will be gone from Wednesday morning, June 20 –
Saturday afternoon, June 23 for a wedding in Chicago.
In the peace of Christ, Fr. Joseph A. Jacobi
