The man, before he left asked that I clarify something for him and began to tell me that he was losing faith in God because of the example of many priests, he then continued to point out their sins. I felt sorry for him and his unpleasant experience. Unfortunately, we were not able to finish our conversation because his wife came to get him. I did pray over him though and asked the Lord to heal him and show him his love. How easy it is to see the sins of others when in fact we ourselves are not perfect; how simple it is to point the finger at a stranger and judge by his or her appearance. Today’s gospel remind us that we are too sinners in need of salvation, that we are encouraged to humbly acknowledge our sins and call upon God’s loving mercy. The next time you are about to judge or point out your finger at someone, take a look at your hand and see how many fingers are pointing at you. “O God, be merciful to me a sinner” With much Love, Fr. Bismarck Thirtieth Sunday in Ordinary Time October 23, 2016 Mass for the Sick and Disabled In honor of the Jubilee Year of Mercy, Pope Francis has asked priests to celebrate a Mass with an anointing at the end. The Mass for the sick and disabled will be celebrated on Saturday, October 29, 2016 at the 4 PM Mass. What is the Anointing of the Sick? In the Church's Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick, through the ministry of the priest, it is Jesus who touches the sick to heal them from sin – and sometimes even from physical ailment. His cures were signs of the arrival of the Kingdom of God. The core message of his healing tells us of his plan to conquer sin and death by his dying and rising. The Rite of Anointing tells us there is no need to wait until a person is at the point of death to receive the Sacrament. A careful judgment about the serious nature of the illness is sufficient. When the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick is given, the hoped-for effect is that, if it be God's will, the person be physically healed of illness. But even if there is no physical healing, the primary effect of the Sacrament is a spiritual healing by which the sick person receives the Holy Spirit's gift of peace and courage to deal with the difficulties that accompany serious illness or the frailty of old age.
