The LORD will guard you from all evil; he will guard your life. The LORD will guard your coming and your going, both now and forever. Our help is from the Lord, who made heaven and earth. Isn’t it a relief to know that? We have a God who is constantly watching over us to protect us and guide us. The Psalmist says: “…indeed he neither slumbers nor sleeps, the guardian of Israel.” The problem for many of us is to believe this truth. Perhaps life has not been too pretty for many of us; everything seems to be a struggle and we ask if God is really watching or paying attention in my life. Living by faith is not an easy task, but knowing God’s promises and making them ours can help us remain persistent and faithful, like the woman in today’s gospel. She knew the Judge had the power to bring justice to her case, so she did not give up. She had faith in the Judge. Moses trusted in God’s power and promise of deliverance and so he prayed, it wasn’t easy; he became tired and almost lost the battle, but because he had Aaron and Hur by his side, he was able to remain strong in prayer. This image of Aaron and Hur holding Moses’ arms up in prayer, reminds us that we do not have to fight this fight alone. You and I have a community of brothers and sisters that can help us pray and remain faithful. You are not alone, God is by your side and so is your parish community. If you need support in prayer or any other need, we are here for you. Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” (Mt: 7:7) Have faith that God is faithful to his promises and you will see his glory. Remain faithful so when He returns, He may find faith on earth. Fr. Bismarck Twenty-Ninth Sunday in Ordinary Time October 16, 2016 Mass for the Sick and Disabled In honor of the Jubilee Year of Mercy, Pope Francis has asked priests to celebrate a Mass with an anointing at the end. The Mass for the sick and disabled will be celebrated on Saturday, October 29, 2016 at the 4 PM Mass. What is the Anointing of the Sick? In the Church's Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick, through the ministry of the priest, it is Jesus who touches the sick to heal them from sin – and sometimes even from physical ailment. His cures were signs of the arrival of the Kingdom of God. The core message of his healing tells us of his plan to conquer sin and death by his dying and rising. The Rite of Anointing tells us there is no need to wait until a person is at the point of death to receive the Sacrament. A careful judgment about the serious nature of the illness is sufficient. When the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick is given, the hoped-for effect is that, if it be God's will, the person be physically healed of illness. But even if there is no physical healing, the primary effect of the Sacrament is a spiritual healing by which the sick person receives the Holy Spirit's gift of peace and courage to deal with the difficulties that accompany serious illness or the frailty of old age. WE ARE THE BODY OF CHRIST! Looking for ways to get involved?
