Remmert Jason Presley Fifth Sunday of Easter: In today’s Gospel, the betrayal by Judas has unleashed the forces that will lead to the seizure and death of the Lord. Jesus reminds his followers that they need not fear or despair. This is his path to glory. He offers them a commandment that is old and yet describes it as a new: Love one another. This commandment is transformed in Jesus, who demonstrates a new, expansive, unreasonable, and unending love that must be modeled. "Here is a rule for everyday life: Do not do anything which you cannot offer to God." — St. Jean Marie Vianney Weekday Mass: Ther e will be NO weekday Mass this Tues., April 26th or Wed., April 27th here at St. Francis of Assisi as Father Nicholas will be away on vacation. We will pray the Rosary for Life here Tuesday at 10:00am. There will also be no Thursday or Friday Masses, April 28th or 29th at St. Joseph’s in Martinsville. May is the month we devote to the Blessed Virgin Mary, Queen of Heaven and Mother of God. Join us next Saturday (after Mass) and Sunday (beginning of Mass) for this year’s May Crowning. Flowers are welcome and we ask that the children come dressed in their Sunday best to help with the Procession of Flowers. Join the Knights of Columbus for Pancakes this Sunday, Apr il 24th after Mass in the Social Hall. The cost is $3 per person or $10 per family. Mother’s Day Picnic: Hispanic Ministr y will host a early Mother’s Day Picnic next Saturday beginning immediately after the May Crowning (6ish). HM will provide hamburgers & hotdogs with all the fix' ins and drinks. If anyone would like to bring desserts and salads, they would appreciated. There will be raffle tickets sold with prizes valued at $250, $200, & $100. The evening will end with a dance beginning at 8pm, the cost for the dance is $10 at the door. We welcome and invite all to participate. THANK YOU: We would like to Thank ever yone that participated in the Lenten Haiti Box during this year’s season of Lent. It was a great success and will be greatly appreciated by our Twinning Parish School (Francis of Assisi School) in Trianon, Haiti. This is the total collected that will be forwarded to $1077.00. All proceeds of your alms will be sent to CRS for use where they are most needed throughout the world. The total collected through this year’s efforts is $1,400.50. Aside from our Easter and Christmas flowers, we would like to give people the opportunity to donate flowers in honor or memory of their loved ones. We are asking that anyone who that would like to do this give cash or write a check to St. Francis of Assisi in the amount of $15-$20 dollars, give your name and who you would like to honor or remember to the church office. What you obtain for your contribution will be the Altar flowers for the weekend Masses, a memory or honor box in the bulletin and the amount will be added to your annual contribution account. Register today for our Diocesan Youth Work Camp. We are moving this year to serve individuals and families in Lee County in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains. Of all Virginia Counties, Lee County has the highest percentage of people per capita living below the poverty line. However, it is home to some of Virginia's most beautiful landscape and wonderful people. The camp will run from Sunday, June 19 through Friday, June 24. This adjusted schedule allows teams time to travel on Saturday, June 18 to Lee County and home on Saturday, June 25. Catholic-based Debate Camps, J uly 17-22, commuter and overnight, at William & Mary, Williamsburg; July 25-29, commuter, at Catholic University, Washington, DC.
