Dear Algonquin Lakes Elementary Family, Lockdown Drill
Dear Algonquin Lakes Elementary Family,
Lockdown Drill notification
We want to notify you that today, September 16th, our school conducted a “Lockdown Drill” today.
A “Lockdown Drill” is a practice to simulate taking actions to protect students and staff during a
violent event that may occur on the school campus.
The lockdown drill, like our fire and tornado drills are part of the District 300 School Emergency
and Crisis Response Plan. The school district works closely with local police and fire departments
in their response to our schools during times of crisis. Local first responders participate in these
practice drills throughout the school year.
We want to bring this to your attention to keep you aware of our commitment to protect your child
and to alert you to this safety drill. As a parent, your student may want to share their experience
with you. That experience is an opportunity for you to reassure your child that the drill was a
practice to keep them safe and to reinforce with them that the teacher is trained how to protect
them and the importance for your child to always follow the safety directions of the teacher.
Early Release for all students for this Friday, September 18th
This is a friendly reminder that this Friday will be an early release for all students at 12:00. We will
have a modified lunch schedule to ensure all students eat prior to dismissal. During the afternoon
after the release, our teams of teachers and staff will be working collaboratively on our new English
Language Arts curriculum.
September is National Library Card Month!
Your Public Library is a great place to go to find a huge selection of books, movies, games and other
fun activities and programs. Mrs. Allmandinger and Mrs. Masching would like to invite all of our
students and staff to bring in their public library cards to SHOW them in honor of National Public
Library card month. Everyone can bring in their card any day in September for a free special
National Library card month pencil. The class that brings in the most library cards before
September 30th will earn a recognition party.
If you have any questions, please stop by or call the office at 847 532-7500 or contact me by e-mail
at [email protected]
Sincerely,
Chris Columbaro

The Fall Box Top Contest is Here!!
Hello Kids and Parents and welcome back!! For those new to the school: One of
our easy ways to earn money for our school is to submit our clipped box tops to
Box Tops For Education. They in turn send us two checks per year. Last year
we earned almost $1500 for our school this way. Each Box Top is worth 10
cents, so that is a lot of box tops! Last year’s fall contest was a big one, earning
us around $1200. Help us beat last year’s earnings!!
Hopefully You’ve Been Clipping Away those Box Tops and building a nice
collection over the summer! Keep on Clipping!! Now’s the time to turn them in
and earn money for our school! Each class will compete to see who can submit
the most box tops. The classroom who submits the most will get
and will keep Mr. Top Box in
their classroom until the Spring contest! We’ll keep kids and teachers updated
with the progress !
Watch for Box tops on many popular products you are already buying. Then,
just clip them and submit them to your teacher. Remember to put them
in and envelope or Ziploc bag with your teacher’s name clearly written.
Submit box tops until October 23rd. You can make multiple submissions.
***Remember to label the envelopes or bag with your teacher’s name clearly
written
