How blessed we are to have the Eucharist in our lives. It has happened in churches that Eucharistic Ministers have had to break the hosts in half in order to be able to serve everyone. Yet somehow, by sharing, we always have enough. When Jesus instituted the Eucharist in today’s Gospel, he shared it around the table with those he loved. In another Eucharistic Gospel story, more than 5000 were satisfied after the multiplication of a few loaves and fishes. The faithful have been sharing the Body and Blood of Christ for the past 2000 years. We will continue to receive this spiritual food until the Lord comes again in glory. Whatever happens, in the church and in the world, Jesus promises us that we will always have enough to go around. With today’s Gospel on the Solemnity of the Body and Blood of Jesus, we come full circle to the covenant described in today’s first reading. Just as those sprinkled with the blood of the sacrifice at Sinai became sharers in a covenant with God and responsible for its precepts, so do those who drink of the Eucharistic cup and eat of the Eucharistic bread become forever covenanted with God in Jesus. Cup and cross cannot be separated; the Eucharist forms an integral part of the saving events of Calvary. Every Eucharist looks back with praise and thanksgiving to Calvary. So does each gathering around bread and cup look ahead to the future feasting at the heavenly banquet. The Eucharist is always a multidimensional experience in which past, present and future come together; it invites our hunger, and satisfies our every need and desire. As we celebrate this great Solemnity we should also give thanks that our community has the Eucharist available to us 24 hours a day in our Adoration Chapel. What a blessing it is to be able to come to St. Paschal’s and find a place where we can quietly pray and meditate. Prayer is powerful. Prayer is essential. Prayer is needed. In order for the Eucharist to remain exposed on the altar in the Adoration Chapel “adorers” are needed to be present each hour. We are invited not to leave Jesus alone, we are invited to stay awake. More volunteers are needed to fill the different hours each day in the chapel. This weekend the coordinators for our Adoration Chapel are present outside of church seeking volunteers for the Adoration Chapel. Can you spare an hour to come and pray? The Lord will be happy to have you. Please consider volunteering for an hour of prayer. This weekend we welcome Father John Vo who will be with us for the month of June and possibly longer. Father John was ordained in 1986 and brings years of experience to share with our community. Please take a moment to introduce yourselves and welcome him to Thousand Oaks. Next Friday, June 12th, our parish school will be celebrating the graduation of the 2015 Class from St. Paschal School. Prior to the their graduation I will be leading a day retreat with them on Tuesday at Serra Retreat House in Malibu. Pray for them as they prepare to embark on the next phase of their education, namely, High School. God bless the Class of 2015! May you all have a wonderful and blessed week. You can help children know they are understood As parents, educators and volunteers, we want children to know that we are not only authority figures in their lives, but also people they can trust. To foster authentic trust with children, it is important that they know that you understand them. One of the simplest ways to do this is by repeating back what children are telling you. When you do this, you are affirming to the child that they are heard and understood. For complete VIRTUS® Article and more communication tips email: [email protected].
