They were unhappy with Moses, their leader, and they were disappointed with God to the extent they questioned whether the Lord was still present, asking “Is the Lord in our midst or not?” That is a question we may ask at times. We may wonder if God is watching over us; we may lose our trust in God. It is worth noting that the Book of Exodus tells us in today’s reading that the Israelites were in a place called Massah and Meribah. In Hebrew “Massah” means “to test” and “Meribah” means “to quarrel or provoke.” The description of the chosen people “provoking” God and “testing” God may have applicability to us as well. Stewardship calls for us to place our faith and trust in God — to believe and know that He is always with us and always watching over us. That is not easy. Jesus never once tells us that it will be easy or that it is easy. However, He also assures us in today’s Gospel that He brings us the “living water.” Even in the Book of Isaiah we are reminded “With joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation.” (Is 12:3) As St. Paul says in the second reading, “…and hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out into our hearts.” (Like living water) Copyright © 2014www.THECATHOLICSTEWARD.com Lenten Regulations It is this time of year when most of us are a bit confused about what the proper observances are for the season Good Friday is a day of fast. Fasting is generally understood to be 1 meal without snacking during the day. Many people mitigate the observances with 2 small meals that do not equal the sum of the 3rd. All Catholics without medical problems are obliged to the law of fast, beginning at age 18 and continuing through age 59. All Fridays of Lent and Good Friday, are days of abstinence. This law applies to all Catholics 14 years of age and older. No meat or visible meat products in other foods may be consumed, including wild game, fowl, lamb, pork or beef. Soy, milk products, eggs, cheese, fish and shellfish are permitted. Confession will be on Saturdays from 2:30 to 3:30 pm or by appointment during Lent. Please add to our monthly “pray for” list….. Hilda Cisneros, Rob & Barbara Robbins, †Matthew North, †Grace Flinn, Toni Marcella, Margaret Dattilo, Jo Knapic, Lori Courtney, †Ted Baullinger. Call the office if you wish to add someone to our prayer list including; our military and members of our parish family and friends who are sick or who have passed away recently. 8th Sunday in Ordinary Time Regular Collection/Colecta Semanal Regular Collection $2750.00 Project Campaign $683.00 Thank You ! ¡Gracias! By now, they had already been numbered among the “elect” for Easter baptism, and were daily challenged to excel in prayer, in fasting, and in works of charity. As is true today, at a certain point in the weekly assembly for Eucharist, the nonbaptized were dismissed from the assembly for their own learning and prayer. While they might have had impressions about the Eucharist, they had no direct experience. The rites of the church were secret and its worship places off-limits. For the Easter Vigil, those to be baptized arrived very hungry from long fasting, and perhaps very apprehensive as to how initiation was to be accomplished. A long night of vigil and storytelling, a shimmering pool of baptism, the anointing with oil and clothing with white robes came as something of a surprise. At the end of a long, life‑changing night of embrace by Christ and the community, as the eucharistic feast ended, a final surprise was brought forward. To address the deep hunger of the newly baptized, the church offered a bowl of milk and honey, sign of promises fulfilled, sign of community, prosperity, and peace, and yet another foretaste of heaven’s banquet. —Rev. —Fray Gilberto Cavazos-Glz, OFM, Copyright © J. Physicians have opportunities that a priest does not have, for our mission does not end when medicine is no longer of help. There still remains the soul that must be brought to God. Jesus says, ‘Whoever visits the sick is helping me.’ This is a priestly mission. Just as the priests can touch Jesus, so we doctors touch Jesus in the bodies of our patients: in the poor, the young, the old, and children.” St. Benedict Society - Sunday April 6th at 4:00 pm Knights of Columbus - normally the 1st Wednesday of each month - 7:00 pm Catholic Daughters - usually the 3rd Wednesday of each month - 6:45 pm excepting July and August Parish Potluck - Now on the 1st Sunday of each month – April 6th at 5:00 p.m. Rosary held every Wednesday and Thursday after Daily Mass and Friday at 11:20 am.
