the Gospel.
Amen.
The power of example
Saint Paul liked the Thessalonians. In the beginning of his first letter to them—
the earliest writing in the New Testament—he praised them to the skies, unlike
the Galatians, whom he called “foolish” for deserting the gospel he had preached
to them. The Thessalonians, by contrast, held firm to what Paul had taught them.
What’s more, they became great examples of faith, hope, and love—Paul’s
favorite virtues—just as Paul and his colleagues had been to them. How can you,
too, be such an example to others?

MASS INTENTIONS
FROM THE
PASTOR
...
My Dear Friends in Christ,
Last weekend I had the great privilege of attending the
consecration of a new church building at Saint Stephen’s
Ukrainian Catholic Church on White Oak Bottom Road here in
Toms River. What a wonderful experience, joining with the
members of St. Stephen’s and other priests and their
Metropolitan Bishop for the 3-hour service. The symbols and
incense were present in abundance, as well as the amazing a
capella voices singing the liturgy throughout. Congratulations to
Father Oleksandr Dumenko and his entire faith community as
they begin this new chapter in their lives.
On a less celebratory note, last Saturday, I and my siblings
spent three hours moving my mother from her room in assisted
living to their ‘memory care’ (or Alzheimer’s) unit. Mom had
fallen and been taken to the hospital a number of times in the
past few months, because she can’t quite remember that she
cannot walk on her own. It was an emotional morning for us
all. I know now what so many of you are or have gone through
in caring for your loved ones who have moved into that strange
world of dementia. It is difficult to see those you love start to
slip away. We need to remember that, in this all, God is with us.
Pray for openness to God’s grace and presence.
We saw a slight increase in last weekend’s offertory. Thank
you. If you haven’t yet made your increase, please do so. Every
bit helps.
Much is being reported from the Synod on the Family being
held in Rome, with much speculation. Please continue to pray
for the movement of the Holy Spirit in the Church and in our
hearts and minds. I encourage you to take a prayer card with
the beautiful image of our new Holy Family Statue and pray the
prayer provided.
On this World Mission Sunday, we acknowledge missionaries
from here to Mongolia (the world’s youngest Catholic mission)
bound to God’s service by the law of love alone. In 1,100
mission dioceses, churches and schools are under construction,
seminarians and catechists are being trained, so that the gospel
is proclaimed in the name of the church: on behalf of you and
me, and only through our support. We pay for the missions
with Caesar’s coin. We reap the harvest in Spirit and truth.
God bless you all,
Fr. Scott

Is God Calling You? Vocational discernment groups meet to assist young men who are discerning the possibility
that God may be calling them to a life of priestly ministry. These groups are designed to explore a priestly
vocation with other like-minded men through prayer and sharing vocation stories and experiences. The group
meetings are not meant to convince anyone that the priesthood is their vocation. They are designed to assist you
in discovering if the priesthood is your true vocation and build your relationship with Christ along the way. If you
are a faithful, single, Roman Catholic man, between the ages of 18 and 40, and are asking yourself whether God is
calling you to be a priest, you are cordially invited to attend this month’s discernment meeting October 26 from
4pm to 6pm at St. Gregory the Great Parish, 4620 Nottingham Way, Hamilton Square, NJ. Please register with
the Diocese of Trenton Vocation Office at [email protected] or call 609-406-7449.

HORARIO DE MISAS
MENSAJE DEL
PASTOR …
hermanos pasamos tres horas ayudando a nuestra madre a
Fr. Scott
