Grounded in Baptism, in Word, and Eucharist, we are committed to give ourselves in service to share the Gospel message of hope and new life, and to support one another in living our faith in the world. Sunday Reflection Brothers and Sisters in Christ, Today we celebrate All Saints Day honoring the many saints that have come before us and asking them to pray for us today. This past August, our teens went to a “City of Saints” youth conference where the message was clear – “Be a saint!” And that should be what we constantly think about each and every single day when we wake up in the moment. How can I live my life today as a saint? How can I inspire others to love Christ like the saints did? How can a I become holy? All of us are called to holiness which means that all of us are called to become saints. And the saints are in heaven, which means that if we want to go to heaven too, then we have to begin now by living that life of holiness. Heaven is not guaranteed for anyone. Jesus Christ conquered death providing us with a heaven to go to after we ourselves experience death. But those gates, guarded by St. Peter, will only be opened if we work hard in this life to obtain the joy and richness of the next. Have you followed the commandments? Have you lived out the beatitudes? Have you done corporal works of mercy? For some of us, we may cringe and complain, this is too much. It’s too much work to get into heaven. Was the Cross too much for our Lord to bear to grant us salvation? Was the blood the martyrs spilled too much? Was the life of prayer and work carried out by many too much to do? Was the simple act of loving God and others too much to ask? For these men, women and even children, who walked this world just like us, it was not too much. And we have the opportunity to do the same. I invite us to recall our favorite saints today, the ones who have inspired us. St. John Vianney, the patron of priests. St. Teresa of Avila, patroness of headaches. St. Peregrine, patron of cancer patients. St. Gianna, patroness of unborn children. Recall their lives and all the great things they have done for God and for the Church. And ask them for their prayer. All holy men and women… pray for us. Saints of God… pray for us. Don’t forget to join us on Monday at 7PM for the special All Souls Day Mass. Bring a picture of your loved ones as we pray for the repose of their souls. Have a blessed week. Our Lady of Peace… pray for us.
